First verse/chorus absolutely Moody Blues. There's a very big Syd Barrett influence in the "spoken word" verse though, probably hence all the Pink Floyd reference. One of the greatest songs of the last 5 years, - only frustrating part is i wish each "refrain" would last longer. |

I heard FTM when it come out, March '05 and always wondered where i could get this song, and well finally i did. the beauty with TMV is a hair-raising crescendo is always just around the corner in every song; or if not a climax an ambient piece of musical mastery. for example cygnus vismund.. the off-time bass in the middle followed by "i count the days by..". or miranda with the atmospheric strings and "and when miranda sang..."
this track the quirky acoustic followed by the chorus is just the epitome of what makes this band timeless. I love the distorted acoustic at the end, (sarcophagi?) it's just so disappointing they couldn't fit this as track one; it is almost sacrilegious but possibly just cut 14mins of the cassandra gemini 'extending jamming??' well hindsight is a wonderful thing.. |

i can't believe the negative responses to this song! while a waters song it sounds like something syd barrett (RIP) would have written. the kazoo is annoying but the 'chorus' with "mrs. clegg.." is catchy; ok so it's missing some of the atmosphere of other SFOS songs but its disturbing theme but the lyrical theme is sound and the riffs capture the epitome of late 60's rock |

the whole mood to interpol songs generally point toward a relationship, whether sex, or breaking up.. often in lament. i kind of got a different vibe from this song, like portraying monotony(?) in one's life.. perhaps scarred from a relationship but in turn the person has become a shell of their former self, in their own captivity (hence "jail").. and keeps telling themselves theyll break out and do active things, and for good, but are kind of asking for something to break the cycle, as internal idle promises. but hey, that middle part "can you feel the warmth...?" runs emotion through my spine everytime! underrated song |
