For me the dance means the entire time someone spent with someone. Them saying goodbye is them dying. Its about how much pain the person is feeling now that the other is gone. Hes thinking that he would love to not have the pain hes in now but for him not to have that pain means he would have had to miss the times he felt so good with her. |

To me this song is about the loved one dying. How the pain of the loss is huge but he wouldnt trade the pain for not having been in the relationship. This song makes me tear up a little when I hear it. |

Right after the columbine high school shootings I was skimming through the channels and stopped for a memorial they were having outside the school. Smith was up there playing this and it brought a tear to my eye. It was very emotional for the people attending, almost a little to much for a day that was already very emotional. |

I think everyone knows this song was written about a soldier heading off the Vietnam. It says so in one of the versus. People relate songs to things they feel or have experienced. Many people writing in these forums were not around for Vietnam. They relate it to what they have been through and many have seen friends of theirs ship off to Iraq.
Good song by the way. Makes me remember that not everything coming out of Natalie means mouth is complete crap. |

For me this song is about a daughter leaving home. It is a daughter the guy had with someone he didnt love and the only reason he married and stuck around was to raise and love the kid. Now that I lost everything to you could be him thinking about how he lost his freedom, lifestyle, and dreams when she was born. He loves her alot so its killing him she is leaving and he is just giving parental advise about the world. Thats what it means to me. Im sure it was about a breakup but my explanation hits home much better. |

I can come up with two thoughts on this song. The first is that the you in this song is actually a metaphor for drugs.
The other thought is that its about a runaway kid living on the streets and hes calling a friend that he knew before he ran away. He is explaining his situation to the friend and he realises that his life is going nowhere and he doesnt have the power to stop it. Its a runaway train. |
