I'm with Chinup & aczinke on this one. Nothing more to read into it besides the Jimmy Swagart's, Jim Baker's & Billy Graham's. This song was popular when TV evangelism was strong in the early 90's. Very catchy w/a message.

I think he's making reference to Adam being condemned in the 4th verse and then references people being condemned today.

I think what he's saying is...it doesn't matter who you are or what you believe were all going to die one way or another and that life has many ironies and isn't fair. He doesn't want to say there isn't a God, because to him that would be Blasphemous, but if there is a God, and all things are controlled by a higher power than he's got a pretty sick sense of humor for all the unfairness in the world and when he dies, if there is a God, he expects to find him laughing about all the unfairness. I think in this song he is really questioning it and trying to make sense of it.

I think he is talking about feeling God's love. Too many references to heaven to be talking about a person. This song is why I feel DM is not anti-Christian.

I've been a Depeche Mode fan for a long time. I love this song. Can't get it out of my head. I don't think they are anti-Christian. They have many religious references to their music. Maybe they were brought up by staunch fundamentalist catholic parents & forced to go to fundamentalist catholic schools taught by old nuns in habits with slapping rulers. I think they just want people to think about it, that's all, and understand it can be interpreted many ways. No harm, no foul.
