Barenaked Ladies – Everything Had Changed Lyrics 17 years ago
Without even hearing this song I can tell Steven Page sings it. Guy's a lyrical genius. I swear, this album is gonna be another quad-platinum :) .

As for the meaning...I think it might be something akin to 'I Live With It Every Day'...just depression over what the protagonist has done. I know it's kind of loose, but that's all I can think up right now.

Bad Religion – Voice of God Is Government Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the meaning's already been spoken for, but I just wanted to say that this is the funniest BR song out there that I've heard XD .

"And what better way to show your love than to dig DEEP down into your pockets?" I would have hit something if I hadn't been laughing so hard.

Bad Religion – Bad Religion Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't like these theories, so I'm going to create my own. How about that religion no longer stands for what it was originally employed to do - lead us to better our personal lives and make the world a better place? Before laws could be enforced properly, religion stood in its place. There's no cops to shoot you if you kick down Mr. Brown's door, but God won't be very pleased with you when he catches up. Religion doesn't do that for many people now; it just gives them another excuse to feel superior to everyone else.

Bad Religion – Los Angeles Is Burning Lyrics 17 years ago
Without looking at the lyrics, I'd thought it was about the government's disregard for many of its citizens (wartime), but now I think it could be about the media's exploitation of disasters. I dunno, could be either. Hell, could be both. Or neither, you know; after looking at the comments, it could also be one of my beloved songs about insanity. Even better: MASS insanity :) .

Muahahahah.

Bad Religion – Kyoto Now! Lyrics 17 years ago
"This world IS definetely going to hell, or to some other place actually not existant"

That's the one downside of punk songs, is that they still can only pack so much into a song and people get the wrong idea. Hell DOES exist. People create it. Actually, I think BR said in one song or another "There's no such thing as Hell/but you can make it if you try." I like these guys, because they're not just straight-up atheists as far as I can see (i.e. DONT BELIEVE IN STUFF CUZ ITS NOT TRUE). They're intelligent enough to understand that many people need things to believe in; it's the fanatics that they're worried about, because it's them who do harm to others. The private churchgoer does very little to repress or demolish us.

So there. Religion isn't evil. Some people just like to write it that way anyway. I'll stop now while I'm still on-topic :p .

Bad Religion – American Jesus Lyrics 17 years ago
Whew...a lot of comments on this one. I don't have time to read it all, but if there's anyone here who still thinks that this song is an insult to Christ, I recall reading an interview a while ago with Bad Religion, where either Greg or Brett (can't remember which) was asked about their Anti-Cross logo, and said that it's definately not Anti-Jesus, that Jesus was one of the coolest dudes who ever lived, and that they like to think that if he were alive today that He'd be a BR fan.

Sorry if I inturrupted anything. Comment might've been useless, but w/e. I needed something to do anyway.

Bad Religion – Beyond Electric Dreams Lyrics 17 years ago
Eh, the only part I ever even tried to understand was the chorus (I thought the rest was sort of a confusion thing going on). I got the idea that the song WAS about religion, but not smiting it down, just saying that it's more about some old guy on top of a mountain communicating with the divine. But the 'vastness' of the confusion ploy also works with xvpatchvx's (not to mention Brett's) explanation of the song. I'm glad I finally know what I'm singing to :) .

Green Day – Are We the Waiting? Lyrics 18 years ago
I always did enjoy songs about insanity. To me, this song is just about that. He (Jesus) starts to lose it, eventually forming his second personality of Jimmy.

Barenaked Ladies – Next Time Lyrics 18 years ago
I dunno - in Wikipedia, it says that this song along with "Shopping" and "Second Best" are centered around the recent troubles in the East. So I've thought about it as the protagonist being George Bush (trial and error), and his disregard for the general opposition of his decisions.
