Unfortunately I know exactly what this is about.
Most people who have not experienced them underestimate the kinds of social anxieties the rejected feel. Loneliness can literally consume one's mind and give a feeling of utter hopelessness. Not the hopelessness you get when you realize your birthday present has arrived; the hopelessness you get when you realize all around you have forgotten your birthday.
"And will I ever find someone who understands my mind? I don’t think so. It’s just a sea of faces and vacant stares and they will never have to be in this place again."
The lonely want so bad to become a part of those who are socially warm that extreme jealousy kicks in. This can not be equated to. It is simply the worst form of emotional angst--knowing there is almost no chance of finding someone to share your pain, which increases even more just due to this fact.
"I have your number, but I won’t call it; I fear rejection more than being alone."
Some people have been hurt by others to a point at which they, even in their despair due to lack of contact with the outside world, reject anyone entering into their life. I've been told finding true friendship after rejection is like "Stepping on nails until you find one that feels good."
"Maybe I’m dying? Over dramatic, but that’s what happens when you have too much time to think about the end."
The rejected don't have much contact with the outside world and thus have no choice but to dwell on their own despair.
"I will try to regain passion, but I’m faltering. I will try to overcome this, but I’m overwhelmed again."
It sounds good on paper, but regaining what is lost through rejection and loneliness is impossible without having someone who truly understands. We cannot give up on these people; though they appear callous and distant, the shy reveal (as shown above; this is describing a friend of mine's feelings, not my own) to us things we would never have seen before. They're no different than us, but it's the fault of those who reject them that they appear as such.
No one may read this. But to those who do: don't ignore these people. We need them just as much as they need us. |

Musicians are part of society, if I'm not mistaken. Can't say they had nothing to do with it...ever heard of hippies? The 70s? Elvis Presley?
I'm sorry but I hate it when people defend musicians simply because they enjoy hearing notes come out of their speakers. It's much more than that--maybe 'society' would take you more seriously if you actually thought about it, and took into consideration that, perhaps, music IS contributing to the problems.
I'm a composer, I've played piano for years, and I am a lover of music, but I also see it from an unbiased perspective. Anyone who has equal or better qualifications, feel free to hate/support my views. |

I find the fact that this band actually signed the papers allowing the release of a Clean version of this album should say something. Maybe 'I can't wait for you to shut me up' isn't so sarcastic...either that or this band is simply in it for the money (which wouldn't surprise me).
Oh well, good song...reminds me of many Nu Metal bands such as Korn.

I love her voice in this...and wow what a great song! It's true, true love doesn't come all nicely wrapped up. Two people who are deeply in love would appreciate sitting under the stars as much as or even more than a candlelit dinner. It takes one thing to make real love work...being comfortable with one another. With that, a perfect couple could love each other for an eternity without spending a penny...the way it should be. |

This song is seriously breathtaking...everything about it...the way he sings it seems like a 'OK, let me give it to you straight,' type of attitude...brilliant!
And the horsehair sweater is just referring to the type of pain that could be easily removed yet still remains due to some unnecessary and unknown obligation. We've all felt it before...you don't want to leave her and make her go through the pain, so you stay with her despite your doubts. The song's about overcoming that and realizing what's best for BOTH of the people in the relationship. |

So I heard this on the radio...I was like 'this has to be Radiohead...NO way Muse outdid Map of the Problematique'...but they did, I have to say this is my favorite Muse song. I love this band! And yes it makes total sense that he is singing about his guitar...to me it just sounds like throughout the entire song he is talking about getting out there, playing his riffs for everyone to hear...spreading the power of music to others...it's no longer just for personal pleasure that he plays. |

This song has risen to the top of my list of saddest songs ever. If you have something to relate it to, it only makes it harder to listen to. If I need to just release any sadness...this song does it for me. It will literally yank the tears right out of you. Very memorable song...vocals are simply amazing. I usually start to tear up when he gets to "You're my, sweetheart, Goodbye, You're my sweetest, Goodbye"...it's just the complete lack of hope...the sense of loss...the vocals just make the song. |
