Deerhoof – Chandelier Searchlight Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Wow no comments on this one, actuallya shocker, I think this is the perfect deerhoof song. I like other songs by them more, but chandelier is so beautifully understated, just awkward guitar that gives me visions of rearranging the set in between scenes at a play, and then moves beautifully with the vocals into a quiet rumination on death in a way a child would look at it, conjuring incantations and greek mythology but having no idea about what it really means to die. "swing by, sweet heart" But goes on living in the la la la la life, perhaps these thoughts brought on by the unrequited love of the sweetheart, but only playing with the thought of death, in what if I fell into a volcano stage, not suicide. |
Land of Talk – Got a Call Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Darkness dares to the diatone "Darkness dares to the dialtone" T think there are a few others, But I think this song is about a girl who lost her direction after a breakup, she loved him even though he wasn't good to her, and now the only beauty she finds is in her dreams, im not sure exactly what the call is, my guess is that was the call when he broke up with her, and she was expecting it. She wouldn't take him back if she had the chance, but she is trying to keep how much she loved him and how bad she is taking it a secret. |
Land of Talk – Troubled Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Mon couer ... perdu tout pouvoir (My Heart.. Lost Capacity) Avec moi, avec toi, avec elle, avec ... (With me, with us, with her(or it), with...) Nos têtes, nos ames, nos oreilles était toujours remplis (Our heads, our hearts, our ears was always filled) Mais les histoires et chansons de la pere de nos "sons" mon couer ... (But stories and songs of the father our "sounds" my heart) Que je remi ma main dans mes poches et ma langue dans ma ...(That I Remi my hand in my pockets and my language in my) beautiful song, about a girl recollecting about nights just spent with her guy just staying up late with eachother, but something happened where the guy had to do something bad in order to correct something but he would never let his problems appear to be bigger than him, but she is morose, perhaps because of a consequence of him facing his problems, maybe death. |
Land of Talk – Young Bridge Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Street Angel House Devil refers to someone whose outward appearance is very respected and perfect but when he is at home he is anything but. Im not sure if the song is from the perspective of an abused house wife or perhaps a prostitute. The latter would make all the references to being out of money etc. A women whose money left her resorts to sleeping with a respected individual in town in order to support herself but he turns out that hes not what he appears and is a 'devil' at home. |
Land of Talk – Death by Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"One poison, two poison, three boys" I love the slurring of poison and boys, for her they might be the same thing. I think this song is about someone that died, "Lived your life in sacrifice is what you did And i don't think a rose or "raise a toast" seems to fit." seems to imply that the persons life was so selfless that no funeral would be enough, roses and toasts just aren't enough. The person died in a car accident and burned to death, so the narrator is still scared of driving on the highway, and is afraid of fate because of what it might bring to her one day. |
Land of Talk – All My Friends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
my head won't stop what happens then and my heart it closes up is repeated |
Land of Talk – Magnetic Hill Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about ignorant youth, childhood innocence, and growing out of it. "we got along more or less life's long/can't tell" I love it, life's long, can't tell, when your young you go back and fourth between the idea that your growing up and your already an adult and also realizing you have your whole life ahead of you and so things that seem big now aren't consequential in the long run. |
Land of Talk – Breaxxbaxx Lyrics | 15 years ago |
He left. I love the line "like when you leave/it's more than just a cloud" The girl's love leaves her, maybe literally, maybe just relationship wise. And now shes "living at the station" meaning she cant move on and shes just waiting for him to come back but hes "it's never rolling in and it sucks so bad". |
Land of Talk – It's Okay Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with a lot of what you said except to me the thunder is more representative of unrest or struggle, The road is life, and having a little thunder or problems is okay, you need a little thunder. The car metaphor I thought was interesting, there's a certain simplicity to it, a car driving quietly at night, it only lights up whats ahead, you cant see behind you at night, it also is a symbol of movement or leaving. |
Land of Talk – Some Are Lakes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
When I hear this song I think there is a lot of dog or animal companion imagery, maybe to stress the level at which they are linked, it might be love of a friend instead of romantic love. "A sentence and a name./If only for a moments sake,/You called it and it came." The way a dog come when its name is called, "Held him down and let him eat,/longer then a while." is imagery of an animal coming to feed, almost from its masters hand. And the bovine eyes description invokes more animal imagery. |
Land of Talk – Sea Foam Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I get the sense of a lethargic husband who completely ignores his wife in his loveless marriage, to the point where she keys his car out of frustration. I'm not sure who the 'we' is referring to though, might be a stretch but the other character could be a fictional one, that he conjured out of disinterest towards his own life, and dreams about escaping into the characters world "on a wing". |
Land of Talk – Speak to Me Bones Lyrics | 15 years ago |
To me, this song is describing a chauvinist male who treats women like dirt and trys to hit on everyone regardless of the emotional swath he cuts. The repeated lines "hold aloft/crystal glass/light hits/breaks a face apart" "endless sea" I think is describing a club or bar, crystal glass, bright lights, the breaks a face apart could be describing how strobe lights distort faces and just gives the frame by frame impressions of everyone. Endless sea is the crowds and how the guy views his supply of women to be endless, a faceless sea of bodies. " i love anyone but me/tried sipping subtly" Is the crushed girl who has had her self confidence shattered by this guy who treated her like a piece of meat and threw her away, so now shes just reserved to herself quietly sipping her drink. |
Los Campesinos! – All Your Kayfabe Friends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the "I died on the cross...trainer" biblical reference |
Los Campesinos! – Ways to Make It Through the Wall Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You have not been reborn They've just painted your face, painted the walls I think its just a commentary on people 'growing' up, where they claim to have changed so much and been 'reborn' but in actual fact they haven't changed much at all its just purely superficial and cosmetic. "I identify my star sign by asking Which is least compatible with yours" unreal line |
Los Campesinos! – All Your Kayfabe Friends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Tony Cascarino was an football striker that was a prolific player in 1995 with Olympique de Marseille, in his autobiography (which is quite interesting) he writes that he had struggled with gambling and infidelity his whole career. |
Los Campesinos! – My Year in Lists Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about spending a year apart, reference to sending postcards and 'i miss you', and at the end of the year you have to look back and think if it was worth it, but this song is very tongue and cheek and I think it's also sarcastically making fun of the indie pop scene as a lot of their songs do. |
Thao Nguyen – Yes, So On and So On Lyrics | 15 years ago |
When I was moving, I wish I could play everyone I know this song. "I am going away but not away from you I have found the difference between the two" The first thing you want to do is leave and forget your old town, but the last thing you want to happen is for your old town to forget you. |
Thao Nguyen – Travel Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"but I took a million looks" This might be a stretch, but I think this song is about fitting in, mainly to a new environment. And although she is fitting in really well as "how they ate me up", but she is just pretending to be someone else and can't tell or show her past or who she really is. I love this song. |
Thao Nguyen – Swimming Pools Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'Roll, roll, roll up your denim We've got to pedal 10 hours south They pour it down from their balconies You've got to push all the doubt to the side of your mouth' Fantastic. I think the song is mainly about teenagers around the age where they feel like they are growing up to fast and just go on a childish adventure to reclaim that youth. I love the reference to rolling up the denim of your pant leg so it doesn't get caught in your bike chain. |
Thao Nguyen – Geography Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think geography just refers to physical distance between the narrator and the person they are obsessed with, they even envision themselves rising up to their room like smoke. I think fire is being used as a metaphor for love, so being `fireproof`is a cute way of saying they don`t feel the same way. |
The Acorn – Crooked Legs Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Best live act I saw this year. Unreal Song. Come back to folk fest! |
The Acorn – Flood pt.1 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree I think this song describes a dream "As you wake up see the river skins the valley you'd love to wash this summer from your memory" Unbelievable song |
The Acorn – Antenna Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Great Driving Song |
Tilly and the Wall – Let It Rain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The first line seems to suggest its not about Nick himself but a fictional couple perhaps to express part of his life. I just cant get over "I thought you'd come and go. I never thought you would stay, And I'm sorry if I tried to push you away." It made me think about a lot of people that I wish I had a second chance with. |
Los Campesinos! – Don't Tell Me to Do the Math(s) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"And then we'll maybe drown in Dewey decimals" Unbelievable line. |
Los Campesinos! – International Tweexcore Underground Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'and the last time that you tried listening to music, and reading fiction at the same time, you never finished the chapter, but you finished the song' I think that happens to most people, haha, when I heard that line I was reading catch 22 and listening to their CD, by the time it finished listening to the whole thing I think I had read like maybe 8 pages. |
Los Campesinos! – Death to Los Campesinos! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Till is the same thing as a Cashier, its where you pay for things in a store, when an employee is taking money from their company they refer to them as "having their hand in the till". I think the line 'I swap the bruising for a bumping sensation' refers to the sanitation of the modern world by technology as it tries to imitate life, like kids just staying at home and playing football video games instead of actually going on and playing them where, god forbid, they could get a bruise! |
Architecture in Helsinki – Like It Or Not Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me this song is about a girl that he was kind of 'paired up' with, in the sense that its that girl that if he wanted it he could have her pretty easily, and his parents 'love' her, but he thinks he doesn't. I think it has an ambiguous conclusion the "There's never been a knife that cuts me half as deep as you and wide for you" could be referring that he fell in love with her, or can't stand her. I would assume the falling in love part because it makes more sense in the context of the song. |
Midlake – Van Occupanther Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think theres a bit of a christ theme here, especially his trials and walking with the cross etc. |
Mates of State – Running Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Beautiful song, i love her voice. "Let's trade this tired home, for all it's worth in paper." Would pretty obviously mean selling your home, paper being money, i think its just about two activists or rebels who are on the run but are eventually getting tired of running |
Midlake – balloon maker Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree in the sense i agree that the balloon maker symbolizes innocence, but more specifically i believe it is about growing up in general. The balloons signify having childish fun or as the song puts it, wasting some time to come see the sun, the outlawing of balloons is societies definition of what being grown up is. Beautiful. |
Islands – Renaud Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Absolutely love this one, and yes i noticed when i was listening to my islands c.d. that it sounded like it was raining so i kept listening and was rewarded with this innocent childhood gem, perfect ending to a solid album. |
Midlake – Young Bride Lyrics | 16 years ago |
just wow, lets keep the grammar critiques, illiterate replies and use of the word 'irk' to a minimum. Anyways, I think most people would get the illness theme from it and i think the video for this song summed it up perfectly but i was totally getting the arranged marriage tone as well especially from the title itself. I think it just fits the whole idea of the beautiful bird locked in a cage idea, a beautiful girl completely trapped by either an illness or some sort of marriage. really beautiful, really depressing. |
Bon Iver – Skinny Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Just Unreal, "I'll be holding all the tickets " perhaps using airplane tickets as a metaphor for leaving. |
Deerhoof – Vivid Cheek Love Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Laugh together" you know who laughed? Dwight David Eisenhower. |
The Decemberists – O Valencia! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Its very Romeo and Juliet esche. its two rival gangs/familys and two people from opposite sides fall in love. They have a secret love, then someone finds out, the brother takes a shot at the lead, the girl runs in front of him, she dies. He swears revenge. |
The Velvet Teen – False Profits Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I absolutely love this song, one of my favorites off the album. I think you mad an error here: and i heard a rumor you're made a killing with the school budget taxing the people from which you already profit it makes more sense |

Blonde Redhead – Misery Is a Butterfly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I uglymisteryellow is right, it makes sense when placed in the context of the catcher in the rye, "Dearest Jane I should’ve known better But I couldn’t say hello, I didn’t know why" During the novel, Holden repeatedly attempts to contact a girl he used to know name Jane Gallagher, who he obviously cares about very much, but keeps making reasons why he shouldn't, so they never meet, even though she seems to be the only girl he has legitimate feelings for, and if he went and said hello to her when she came to the dorm at the starting of the novel, he might not have gotten so lonely and mixed up in prostitution etc. |

The Minus 5 – Cemetery Row Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song, "Life is wearing thin by general consensus", such a good line. I think this song is about dieing, or the inevibility of it. It seems like its about no longer being afraid of death. The line "Fall out of your skin so free and defensless." seems to be refering to death, and the rest of the song has alot of references to funerals, it seems like cemetery row is what the speaker uses instead of death. |
Mates of State – Fluke Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think its about two people who break up because of lies and then see eachother by chance, and its really awkward. |
Mates of State – Halves and Have-Nots Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I know you're not playing around But I know you will But what do you say When things just won't got your way? Cut around and surround us I know you're not playing around But I know you will Half-tired and now I know your sorrow Half-wiser and now I know you're right We separate sometimes, everyone starts it off Half tired and now I know your sorrow Never stay alone You run up, you run up and you want some Ride on the way down Prepare it and half-truth ends tomorrow Half tired and now I know you're right We separate sometimes, everyone starts it off Prepare it and half-truth ends tomorrow Never stay alone You run up, you run up and you want some Ride on the way down It's one up, it's one up It's the latest version of its kind We will laugh, we will laugh Of how our nerves caught and held us down You run up, you run up and you want some Ride on the way down I know you're not playing around |
Mates of State – I Got This Feelin' Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I couldn't be more ghetto :) |
Matt Costa – Cold December Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Amazing song, about being seperated from someone. |
Mates of State – Goods (All in Your Head) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song, sounds awesome, the meaning is super confusing though. It just sounds like two people recounting memories as they divide up their things, and almost get back together, but then reality sets in. |
