Toadies – I Burn Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok, well i posted on a bunch of the other songs on this cd about what they mean and i think they are all one big storyline... This final song is where the guy kills himself and the girl he kidnapped.

Everyone so far has explained how he is burning himself to have some sort of crazy religious death, but theres a few things i also think about this part... when he says "the beginning and the end" its referring to how in the water it was the beginning of his "life" and how his death in the fire is ending the same way.

NOW... the girl is clearly also killed here.. because he is talking to her the whole time. At the end of the song: "I burn the air you breathe"... shes buried underground and he burns away all her oxygen. One reason that I put this together is that on the back of the album cover it shows some kind of dial (could show oxygen level in a coffin of some kind) with a reflection of a girls sleeping face barely there... really cool. (note: i dont have the pic in front of me, but thats what i remember...)

This song is so cool and please post if anyone agrees with me or disagrees on this song or any of the others.

Toadies – Happyface Lyrics 18 years ago
I think its about a guy arguing with himself about killing someone. He is torn over whether he should kill even when he knows its wrong.

I think the "No no no" is him clearly him arguing and "no more happyface" is him getting angry and just going nuts.

This whole idea also goes along with my idea that the whole album is a big storyline... he kidnaps the girl then finds the will to kill and finally does it at the end...

Toadies – Tyler Lyrics 18 years ago
Does anyone else think this whole album is basically one story? This song is about the guy finally kidnapping the girl that hes stalking and taking her to mexico to kill her so they can be together forever... try listening to the entire album and try to make it one storyline in your head... it works really well.

I'm not sure if its supposed to be one long storyline with the same girl or girls, or if its just a bunch of separate songs about evil / crazy people... but its SO good.

I kind of agree with the religion idea... but i always thought it was more like the baptism in backslider was already an evil type of thing... something that at least scarred him into becoming the person he is.

This song, in my mind, is about how that made him an evil person (sort of ties in with the evolution thing). The whole "life in the desert" part i think mentions the girl thats in a bunch of the other songs and how he wants to take her with him so they can be together forever in the desert. Scary and awesome.

Toadies – Backslider Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with the other posts... More specifically, this song seems to be about some kind of baptism... and i personally think its some kind of evil cult or religion. Backslider means going against your religion...

I think in the song, his dad and others were making him into a backslider, even though it wasn't what he wanted... or at least he regretted it later or something...

either way, this song rules and it goes along with the album so well, which is a not really straightforward concept album. The album is all based around the main character being an evil guy even though it might not seem that way on the outside and he has a relationship with a girl that makes him go crazy and eventually kill her and maybe himself? Theres really nothing like this out there which is what makes me wish they had made more albums like this.

Stone Temple Pilots – Still Remains Lyrics 18 years ago
Does anyone else think this song has a lot to do with death?

I think a lot of it is about the person you loving dying. The name itself "Still Remains" has two completely different meanings... one is love still being there and the other is someones dead body. I think scott weiland loves writing these kind of double meaning lyrics--"too much trippin and my soul/sole s worn thin"...

Anyone know of any other death references in the song or at least agree with me? I'm not really sure, but I've been thinking about it a lot.
