Hole – I Think That I Would Die Lyrics 8 years ago
http://www.villagevoice.com/music/courtney-love-im-48-of-course-i-listen-to-avett-brothers-its-what-women-my-age-do-6602972

Just found more info. It's pretty superficial. "No one wants to call themselves a feminist because the word's been sullied to such a great degree that people equate it with nothing attracted to men. I propose a new word! Let's just make it more French, make it sexier! Call it feministe!"

So I see that apparently Courtney used a quote from Julia Roberts in this song, "I am not a feminist." But honestly I'd like to know why. Is it supposed to be ironic? Is she really not a feminist? I've been looking for more info on it, and can't seem to find much more than it was a quote from Julia Roberts.

Elliott Smith – Ballad of Big Nothing Lyrics 11 years ago
I took it as him talking to a girlfriend, who wasn't happy with him wanting to be close to her, so he's telling her that she can do what she wants to whenever she wants to, but her freedom will mean nothing when she realizes that she pushed his pure love away.

I totally agree! Just because you've heard of something before others, doesn't mean you are any better than them!

Voxtrot – Raised By Wolves Lyrics 11 years ago
"I was going hungry and lazy here
When you stopped me in my tracks"
>They met when he was feeling empty and purposeless.
He was extremely taken by her immediately.

"I was going crazy; I was desolate and ready to kill"
>He was dying of loneliness, and ready to settle for almost anyone.

"But maybe I believe in another place
If you go, you won't look back"
>Real love, so good that you won't regret it.

"And anywhere you go you know
The ugliness will follow you still"
>He knows that though what they had turned ugly at the end,
it was so true that it will always haunt them.

"And you break
This into waste
We are desperate, lonely and underpaid
I’m a bitter man, I know
But listen, honey, you're no fun"
>She regrets the time she spent with him, thinks it was a waste of time.
They're both going through hard times socially and financially, which puts them in overly eager positions.
He's bitter toward her because she betrayed him in one way or another, which is what he's referring to when he says 'you're no fun'.

"I will never live like you
But you will probably die like me
Oh lovelessly, an ending
Full of god, and god makes plenty."
>They have completely different lifestyles, and he couldn't adjust to hers.
They'll both die lonely because they weren't meant for each other, but they're
both too stubborn to change for each other's different lifestyles/personalities.
'Full of god' is referring to their egos, and 'god makes plenty' is saying that their lives won't be anything spectacular because they'll be just like everyone else, settling for the person who is just like them, and who they get alone with most, not necessarily the person they love the most, who might not be quite such a practical choice, and who might actually take hard work to make things work.

"You will go on searching
For someone to keep you killing
If you love me, won't you leave me?
'cause I want to settle down"
>She'll keep on looking for someone else to hurt.
She's still playing games with him. She won't leave him alone.
He's stuck on her, but he wants her to leave him alone, so he can move on
and find someone else to start a life with, who won't leave him.

"First you
Fade into the background
Wouldn’t even call me
Had the nerve to leave me
Go ahead and love me
I’m a hungry man
Ever since you went away"

>The distance grew between them in their relationship when she wouldn't return his calls, which lead to hear leaving him altogether.
Despite all this he wants her back because no one else made him
feel the way she did.

"First you
Fade into the background
Wouldn’t even call me
Had the nerve to leave me
Go ahead and love me
I’m a hungry man
Ever since you went away"
>He repeats he hated the games she was playing,
but despite it all he wants her back because no one else did it for him like she did.

"I don't know if you've got another place
Where you bury all these things
I don't know if you can see the shadow
That you cast on the ground
But maybe I can see through the lonely face
Loose your feet and loose your waist
Anywhere you are, you know the freedom there
Is dragging you down"
>He wonders if she's putting on a front that she's not phased by him in the slightest anymore or if there's some other place she's buried her feelings for him and the strength of their connection. He wonders if she knows that she haunts him all the time (her shadow).
She looks lonely to him, even though she's getting around.
Though she wanted her freedom, it seems as if she's numb not really feeling anything real anymore.

"And you break me into lines
We can shake our bodies
And wreck our minds
I’m a bitter man, I know,
But listen, honey, you're no fun"
>She tears him apart.
He thinks if they just woke up,
the pain that they would have to go through to make things work
would be worth it, but he knows she won't give in aka 'she's no fun'.

"I will never love like you
But you will probably hate like me
Oh lovelessly, and empty
Full of god, and god makes plenty.
You will go on searching
For someone to keep you killing
If you love me, won't you leave me?
'cause I want to settle down…"
>He will never love like she did, either too much or not enough.
He left a bitter taste in her mouth, which has sent her out to callously senselessly selfishly break someone else's heart to save her own pride.
Instead of learning from what was done to her she will repeat her history in reverse to an innocent guy.
At this point she only exists in his mind, and he wishes he could stop thinking of her because he just wants to start a life with someone, but he can't seem to move on even though he know he doesn't have the option to do it with her.

"First you
Fade into the background
Wouldn’t even call me
Had the nerve to leave me
Go ahead and love me
I’m a hungry man
Ever since you went away."
>She deserts him, and even though it was his fault he wants her back because he doesn't think there's anyone else out there for him and his heart is aching for her.
"First you
Fade into the background
Wouldn’t even call me
Had the nerve to leave me
Go ahead and love me
I’m a hungry man
Ever since you went away."

"And oh, don't you wanna love?
And don't you wanna feel?
I remember, you were reckless, you were hungry
You were real, you were so uptight
Listen, I don't mind
I feel like I’m watching a car crash."
>He knows that her romantic life now is empty. He wants her to give him another chance because he thinks it's the only chance they both have for real love. He thinks back to her when they were together and how unrestrained she was, how vulnerable she let herself be with him, and how controlled she was, which is something that used to bother him, but now that he's been forced to go without her he realizes that it wasn't a big deal because he loves her anyway. He feels like they made such a huge mistake by breaking up, and he wants so badly to fix it before it's too late for him to have any chance with her.

"And oh, this is how it ends
You will watch your friends
Take a moment, take a nothing
Then they'll put it in again.
This is how we are
This is how we are
We are young and stupid
And raised by wolves"
>He doesn't think it will happen.
She'll stay with her friends
wasting her years
having empty sex
they're all young and stupid
and raised by clueless parents.

"I will never live like you do
I will never love like you do

I will never live like you do
I, I will never love like you do

I will never live like you do
I will never love like you do

I will never live like you
I will never love like you

I will never live like you do
No, I will never love like you

I will never live like you
Say I, I will never love like you do."
>He convinces himself that he could never live like she does, and he could never match the kind of love she gave so it will never work out between them, even though at the moment that's what he wants more than anything. He's just talking himself out of it.

Field Music – It's Not The Only Way To Feel Happy Lyrics 14 years ago
I love this song. For me right now it is very helpful in getting over my ex. Somehow without even realizing it until the damage had been done I let my happiness depend on him, and now I get so sad sometimes b/c I miss him so much. But listening to this song reminds me thaI don't need him. There is so much more that can make me happy

I think she's saying when you stop trying to get back together with someone who just isn't in it like you are, you'll find you're free.

The Cribs – Be Safe Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song is about how messed up the world is, and how even when you want badly to do something about it it's hard when you see all of the people around you ignoring these intense flaws, to know where to even start. Then you feel guilty for not starting at all, and how these feelings are intensified on a bad day.

The Kinks – This Time Tomorrow Lyrics 16 years ago
This song sheds light on the beauty of the power to make new memories and to cherish old ones, the question of what the future will bring, and the brilliance of the opportunities it can offer us.

It's a great representation of the invincible feeling you have when you feel your power as a human being in this world.

It's especially moving for me because I am at a point in my life where I have experienced much, yet have so many amazing experiences awaiting me. As I listen to it, I find myself attached to the beloved memories of my past and eager to meet the intriguing future that awaits me.

Modest Mouse – Sleepwalking Lyrics 18 years ago
One time a boy played this for me, while looking deeply into my eyes. Let's just say he was the world's best sweet talker. And when I say best, I mean best. If only there were guys that said things like he did and ment it.
