Built to Spill – Temporarily Blind Lyrics

Ugh, I wish I could understand this song. Particularly wish I could make out the words in the outro, which is awesome. I assume it's about not paying attention to a friend or lover at some point (being temporarily blind), causing trouble, and trying to explain that it was a misunderstanding that could happen to anyone: "Turn your back on this hating... turn your back on this waiting" (and let's be friends again). It would take all day to explain what went wrong. Maybe the unintelligible stuff is imitating the explanation that the friend doesn't get. |

Great song. Can't tell what it's about, but I think it might be about a relationship that's transitioning between casual and serious. Are they just "effing around," or are they so close that she can't sleep without him. What next? It seems they're starting to communicate and come to the same point in the relationship. "Heads up, watch out..." there will be new challenges in the future. |

About winning at the races, yeah, but more about simple, prosaic moments of total elation. I smile so much at the "eeeeeeeyeah"s. And actually, there's something deeper - it's a moment of elation that comes rarely, in a rigged game. Odds are "20-fucking-5 to one," and the house usually comes out ahead. How much money do we think the guy has lost gambling, you know? |

Death from Above 1979 – Black History Month Lyrics

Hmm. Right, it seems like it is about "white flight" (a term I had not heard before), with all the subtle racism that implies. Of course, white families leaving the city would bring their children, so what is "hold on children" about there? perhaps just about being torn away from friends and roots? |
