311 – Ebb and Flow Lyrics

I have to initially agree with you about the chorus. The chorus hit me the first time like a brick wall, and the song as a whole makes a great first impression of the album, and I have to listen to it every time I play the album.
I think the song's meaning isn't as heavy as politics or war. To me, it really just means that life goes on like the ebb and flow of the tide, without our input. The song emphasizes that there is more to life than either sitting around waiting for something to happen and more to life than working your fingers to the bone to make something happen.
311 has always been about living a chilled out life - letting things happen as they must - come what may. "Ebb and Flow" is a total embodiment of that lifestyle and mindset. |

Fair to Midland – The Greener Grass Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
"You can still find me
Between devils and deep blue seas
In the desert's hands
On a sheet of sand
A dry tidal wave
Over my feet of clay
On unfinished glass
Looking for greener grass"
This bridge is so touching, especially how it's sandwiched between the soaring "yeah"s. To me, it speaks to how the afflicted speaker in the song is stuck in a type of personal hell, unable to get out and get free to a normal life. The speaker is unable to find greener grass, which speaks immensely to his station in life. We always hear the grass is "greener on the other side." He is still "Looking for greener grass" - his life is so miserable that he can't even find greener grass with which to compare his life. |

Fair to Midland – Pour the Coal to 'er Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
I think the song is about condemning those who live in the past, dwell on past wrongs and misfortunes.
Riddle me this
What can you find
That always chews on the bitter end? (chew on = contemplate)
Riddle me this
In your hindsight
While you ride a white elephant (white elephant = heavy burden one cannot lose) |

Fair to Midland – Rikki Tikki Tavi Lyrics

I like this interpretation, for the most part. I do have a problem with the "Run Rikki Tikki, Run Rikki Tikki, Run" line. Is that saying "run" like "get away" or "run" like "keep up the good work"? |

Fair to Midland – Whiskey & Ritalin Lyrics

I look at the lyrics as referencing going to war (or supporting war) and causing things on the homefront to fall to waste. "Hand to heart" (national anthem/patriotism) and hands to head (either saluting or in exasperation).
And there comes a time when the people can only take so much from its leaders, and they either get voted out of office or a revolution will arise. ("And you better hide Or learn how to climb Cause you're coming with me") |

Mushroomhead – Holes in the Void Lyrics

Very Floyd-esque. This band never ceases to amaze me. This is probably one of the best songs on the album. It's so methodical, pensive and the mood just builds and builds but never gives you a great resolution. I think the song is trying to draw similarities with war, and how soldiers are forced to follow orders and just become machines. Mushroomhead likes to deal with war (whether it's through their look or through songs like this and DTWAM). |

Mushroomhead – Inspiration Lyrics

|
The opening keyboard part reminds me so much of the old school Mushroomhead. This album is such a great blend of old and new.
To me, this song is about finding your inspiration to do what you need to do. But the inspiration should come from within (command meant nothing to me). And the inspiration should be well intentioned. |

Mushroomhead – Harvest the Garden Lyrics

The opening to the song is incredible. It's even better to watch it performed live. ST1TCH and LD go nuts on the water drums.
The song to me screams for a new beginning. It's time to harvest the garden and start anew. Our imperfections are tearing us apart and we need to close our eyes to this tragedy. |

Dissecting has 2 S's. :P
These lyrics are otherwise correct.
Clearly, the song is about a serial killer.
This song is amazing, and I love how MRH is still putting out amazing songs after all these years. By far the hardest working band out there. |

It's "I've been down this path before, keep leaving wanting"
And, it's "Do you really want to fuck with me tonight?" |

Dredg – Quotes Lyrics

I get the tongue-in-cheek tone, but I see it through the eyes of someone trying to force conversion to a religion upon someone else. "Hey, do you ever feel like you're alone or that people look at you weird? You should take these drugs (believe in what we believe in) and you won't be alone anymore." |

I am almost 100% certain the line is "god rest your soul is mine" but I still hear "god rest your soul in mine" - which adds an interesting layer. |

Disturbed – Criminal Lyrics

He's basically saying when he's alone he feels terrible. Miserable. He doesn't think anyone should feel the way he does. It is so bad that to feel that bad should be a crime. As a result, he feels like a criminal. |

Dredg – Planting Seeds Lyrics

However, I can't also help seeing that this may just be one speaker. However, this speaker is terribly conflicted. The first verse seems to express a lot of scorn and disdain for another, contrasted with some (in)sincerity. The second verse shows that the situation referred to in the first verse may be improving, but as the first verse and chorus show, he is good at creating his own hell (it's his instinct) and screwing up situations even as they are improving.
Great song - so much to look at and pick apart. |

I agree with brett and Rock. I would also like to incorporate thoughtatwork's interpretation, as well. It does seem like the song is divided in two halves, based on two people's own interpretations of the same situation (a relationship, etc.). The chorus, with its ambiguity of "shells" only plays further upon how two people can have completely opposite/different interpretations of the same situation (especially a mutual situation like a relationship). |

Pardon my scant knowledge of Spanish, but it sounds like he's singing
"Siento en amor
Siento en dolor"
Does this even make sense? |

Mushroomhead – Cut Me Lyrics

I disagree. I think the song is about the reverse of what you talk about joeynobody. I think it is about when people inflict injury upon us (intentionally) and we react by saying "cut me and i bleed" - like, "what the hell were you thinking was going to happen when you blew up on me?"
One of my favorites off this new album. It gets so intense right up to the end and then slowly ends like it began. |

Such a beautiful song: about stopping a girl from being sad/depressed/suicidal. Probably the best song of The Pursuit album. |

Atomship – Time for People Lyrics

I think this has more to do with being really depressed or really upset/mad/angry. Sometimes, I don't want to deal with people, and I just want to sit in my room or house and listen to music and brood. Those are the times I "hate" people. |

Evans Blue – Caught a Lite Sneeze (Tori Amos cover) Lyrics

This song still confuses me. Part of me thinks that it doesn't make sense when being sung by a guy. I have always thought of Tori Amos as being a fairly sexually charged lyricist, so I don't know if the lyrics of the song translate correctly when sung by a male. |

Mushroomhead – Tattoo Lyrics

It could have something to do with the tattoo that Waylon got on his right forearm: the hummingbird that he wears on his face. Like it's a statement of who he is and what he wants to bring to Mushroomhead. Dunno. Just a guess. |
