I can't help but think this song is directly related to Calypso who fell in love with Ulysses and took him prisoner for 7 years. "last night was wild" "you're never going home"

Spoon – Black Like Me Lyrics 15 years ago
i wast thinking that it might be about a wealthy man with a wife that pays no attention to him. it sounds like he is a hard working man working with street tar (definetly hard and grueling work) and coming home to a wife that does nothing but watch tv. And then one night he decides to spend the night in a different room other than sharing a room with jenny. -
"I spent the night in the map room
I humanized the vacuum"

Him "humanizing" the vaccum can mean 2 possible things. 1 being that he pleasured himself because jenny pays him no attention. or another thing (i like this one better), is that he imagines the vacuum as a human ( like tom hanks did on Castaway with the volleyball named wilson). maybe he talks to the vacuum and just tries to connect with it - i don't know.

anyways, i don't think it's about drugs.
Awesome song though

Britney Spears – Lace And Leather Lyrics 15 years ago
"your 6-inch, makes a boy want to bite his lip"--umm i think this means something else, that vibrates ;)

let me explain why think this song is about another girl, there are constant feminine references throughout

"French fingertips, red lips, bitch is dangerous,
Cotton candy kiss, can't wait for my sugar rush,"

this can only be about a girl.

I thought of a gun caliber as well though WW3 makes sense too. Who knows.

Is there something similar about the guitar in this song and the Spiral Circus part of the Sky Moves Sideways or am I imagining that?

Stars – The Beginning After the End Lyrics 15 years ago
For me, this song speaks out to me by making sense of one of the biggest disappointments in my life. I was doing something for the wrong reason that eventually became a part of me before abandoning me completely. "The blood and the treasure" represents the harmful things we seek. For me, this was membership in a fraternity I was pledging simply because it was giving into my desire to have power and a cliche of friends. Bad reasons I realized later. I lost it all when I was unjustly voted out even being Pledge Class President. I wasted "time" 6 weeks doing all of their bull and it led me nowhere "the place where we fall" in my first semester of college at age 17. "Will we wake in the morning and know what it was for?" I couldn't understand why this was happening to me and what I was to gain from this experience. "Up in our bedroom, after the war." My bedroom represented somewhere safe for me, after all of the weeks of agonizing war. Interestingly enough, I was in my bedroom in the morning when I listened to this song and everything seemed to click...

The Killers – This Is Your Life Lyrics 15 years ago
I believe "Take a number" is for Jackie and not the men using her. She has to take a number in the line of prostitutes this 1 stranger has over the course of however long. Its 1 guy with many prostitutes and the dried blood is of the prostitutes in line the guy used before Jackie. "Take a number, Jackie, where the blood just barely dried."

Dashboard Confessional – Rapid Hope Loss Lyrics 15 years ago
This is the one the "getting dumped" playlist. I can really relate to the song. I think it's basically a girl dumping him when he didn't expect it. She promised him she'd love him forever and he let his guard down and believed it, he depended on it. Then, out of nowhere she dumps him for whatever reason, and he's left angry and wondering what happened to all the promises of being in love that she made. It served her well in getting him to let his guard down.

"so much for, so much more"

Great line, he saw a future for the both of them that made him happy. Well, all those dreams of the future were crushed, "rapid hope loss". He believed the relationship would blossom if only she didn't dump him. Now he's crushed and can't find any reason to be optimistic for the future.

State Radio – Democracy In Kind Lyrics 15 years ago
This is the best part -
There's a U.N. White and Blue
fell from half mast, now
half covering a red shoe,
half asked if they were us
what would we do

it seems that they are accusing the UN of having a comunist agenda, but under the guise of democracy (being that they are largely controlled by the US (if they were us, what would we do)). Fell from half-mast, i would think, symbolizes the loss of liberty during times of crisis, hiding the fact that the US agenda is no longer to protect and defend the constitution, or freedom for that matter.

Queens of the Stone Age – Go With The Flow Lyrics 16 years ago
Well, I'm going to break this down; bear with me. I think this song is about the speaker breaking up with his girlfriend after learning about her long dating history and how many guys she's broken up with, and how their situations are near-perfectly matching up to his.
The first 2 lines are probably what he thinks the girl said before she went on this streak. Her boyfriends were always taking pictures of her to treasure her, and she just decided to "throw herself away" to other men over and over again. Then he's saying he can't make her love him like he loved her, but he will always remember their relationship in a bad way.

They're not thinking "outside the frame", as in they are not getting out of a bare-bones sex relationship because that's all the girl wants. The girl probably won't remember him, either, because she'll just get a new boy-toy.

In the chorus, he's saying how he can go with the flow; he won't stay around and resist fate when there is no way they'll be together. She has always stopped any matter of actually getting intimate, "It doesn't matter." Then he's asking for confirmation, like "Are you following me?".

Then the speaker is saying how the relationship would probably last longer if he just submitted to her, like the other boys. Little devoted soldiers in a row, ready to do anything, falling in and out of love with the girl. The last line of the stanza is a jab at the girl, saying she's just something sweet to throw away.

However, the speaker wishes for a meaningful relationship unlike the girl's previous ones. He wants something he would be willing to save; "to make it beautiful to live". He wants something new in life, and is willing to wait for it. Lose is more than hesitate, after all. Then he asks one last time before leaving, "Do you believe it in your head?"

Nine Inch Nails – Down in It Lyrics 16 years ago
This song, believe it or not is about the pre-flood angels. I know personally so this is not one of those "IMO" posts. Here is a breakdown:

>kinda like a cloud i was up way up in the sky and i was feeling some feelings
>you wouldn't believe sometimes i don't believe them myself and i decided i was
>never coming down. just then a tiny little dot caught my eye it was just about
>too small to see. but i watched it way too long and that dot was pulling me
>down.

This is when an angel was up in Heaven, and caught sight of "daughters of men". He watched her way too long, and his desire made him materialize into a body to be with her.

>Chorus
>i was up about it. (Heaven)
>i was up above it.
>now i'm down in it (Earth)
>i was up above it.
>i was up above it.
>now i'm down in it

>well shut up so what what does it matter now. i was swimming in the haze now i
>crawl on the ground. and everything i never liked about you is kind of seeping
>into me.

He's in a human form, so he has the limitations of the body

>try to laugh about it now but isn't it funny how everything works
>out ("I guess the jokes on me." she said)

When the flood waters rose, the angels shed the bodies they made for themselves and left the women to die in the flood. That's why she said the joke's on me (she cant go to heaven with him).

>Chorus

>i used to be so big and strong.
>i used to know my right from wrong.
>i used to never be afraid.
>i used to be somebody

He was an angel-then human-then cast out of heaven

>i used to have something inside
>now just this hole that's open wide.
>i used to want it all
>i used to be somebody

Same theme expressed here.

>i'll cross my heart and hope to die but the needle's already in my eye. and
>all the world's weight is on my back and i don't even know why. and what i
>used to think was me is just a fading memory
>i looked him right in the eye and said "goodbye."

He's now lost favor in God's eyes, and has been judged. So he said goodbye when he was cast out.

Ok i agree it's about a friendship and one of the persons in the friendship reveals something about himself which basicly creates awkquard feelings between the two. But being honest i dont see the gay connection. Yes Morrisey is gay and proudly gay so maybe so but i dont interpret it that way. I mean everyone has fallen out with somone after you reveal something strange and that feeling of nudity you feel , the feeling of embarresment. That's just my interpretation :P I just dont see where you guys got the idea it involves homosexuality if you wish to

Lou Reed – Make Up Lyrics 16 years ago
The music in actual section about make up sounds almost childish and mocking (eg the oom-pah bass, the nursery rhyme style singing). Could this be Lou showing his dislike for "the things that you do to your face" such as "pancake factor". You are only the "slick little girl" (Male or Female) when sleeping and un-made up (,your face, it's sublime).

Bad Religion – All There Is Lyrics 16 years ago
just a small interpretation of the lines 'there's space for a paper air-plane race in the eye of a hurricane'. i think this is referring to an individuals belief in a religious system to make sense of and protect that person from the realities of everyday life. 'there's space for a paper airplane race' may refer to people allowing this thin veneer of comfort into their lives when in fact the realities of modern life could be likened to a 'hurricane'. perhaps the lyrics are commenting on people allowing this faith into their lives regardless of what else they do, and therefore arresting their proactive freewill in favor of blind faith.

Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics 16 years ago
I always thought that this song was about death. The narrarator seems tired and has given up on life
"My weariness amazes me, I'm branded on my feet,
I have no one to meet"
And because of this, he is willing to follow the tamborine man to death.
"I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it"

Clor – Dangerzone Lyrics 16 years ago
Are the posters above american speakers or something? I really can't see how you hear stuff like "darkly blue blue days", when to me me it seems obvious it's "ugly blue"! Anyway, I'm pretty confident these are right.

Watch out, you're entering the dangerzone
We might start something that’s emotional
Our pockets full of little miracles
That held us through the long and dark and ugly blue....

We’ll lose our minds with every passing day
Our fear of change could blow the game away
Our future’s right here in the dangerzone
Come join us deep within the long and dark and ugly days

Watch out, you’re entering the dangerzone
We might start something that’s emotional
Our pockets full of little miracles
That held us through the long and dark and ugly blue, blue days

’Cause you’re at the center
You sense the nature
Let’s get down to business
How far are you going?
I’m going all the way
Let’s gather momentum
Imagine you’re driving on pristine new roads

Let’s climb down from trees
Emerge from the river
Let’s vacate the beaches
Of far distant shores
Imagine you’re driving us out of the blackness
And into the blue, blue, blue, blue days

Watch out, you’re entering the dangerzone
We might start something that’s emotional
Our pockets full of little miracles
That held us through the long and dark and ugly blue, blue days

well, just a note..
the biggest eruption occurred in 1944, destroying many b-52 US bombers during world war II and a few villages nearby. this would make more sense than the Pompeii eruption, as it fits the war and modern life references.

Derek Webb – Wedding Dress Lyrics 16 years ago
By saying that this song or much of Webb's music is about "the church" it ignores the most important and most uncomfortable aspect of his music... this song is about exposing our own personal sins for everyone to see instead of hiding behind a protective blanket of the collective church. We all casually admit that we are all sinners but we never really expose our sin. It is still kept safe in the back of our heads and we find new ways to hide our sin from everyone else or pretend that it really isn't that bad. In this song Webb is confessing that even though his life/career is focused on worship/praise and spreading the gospel he still lives an extremely selfish and adulterous life (towards God). Listen to the "Intro to Nobody Loves Me" on his "The House Show" album... very blunt but very true.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite song ever.

They made it as far as Papua New Guinea but never as far as Darwin.

Megadeth – Black Curtains Lyrics 16 years ago
Easily one of the heaviest on Youthanasia. Instead of bastardizing the song by arguing about what it sounds like, let's talk about the song's MEANING.

It Sounds to me as if it is about a Nuclear Holocaust that has been unleashed upon the world :

"Bang... it happened
Time's up, armageddon
Fire... meltdown
The sky is crumbling in"

"Escape... you're joking
Can't find no place to run"

"Hair... is burning
My flesh is bubbling up"

Very clear meaning IMO

Placebo – Black-Eyed Lyrics 16 years ago
Firstly i just wanna say you dont have to experience something as a song writer to write about it. Secondly my interpretation is that the black eye is the scar that he has lived with since a divorce. "I'm forever black-eyed
A product of a broken home" and when he mentions "I was never faithful And I was never one to trust" which are how the divorce has effected his life. It's damaged his personlity which has made his life so dificult to live. That's just my interpretation it's very simple but i guess that's the beauty of music.. everyone is right and everyone is wrong.. Anyway I'm using a friend account if you wish to talk to me or reply or even flame me for my comment my email is s.i.c.k.o@hotmail.co.uk

Hellyeah – Alcohaulin' Ass Lyrics 16 years ago
For obvious reasons, people always think this song is saying alcohol and ass. It may sound that way, but when you see how it's title is written you realize that wasn't the intention. Or at least it wasn't the main intention. The real meaning is a play on words: Alcohol + Haulin' Ass. Hauling Ass meaning driving really fast, it's easily apparent the song is about taking a drunk joyride.

regarding "i don't know where he's gonna park that thing," a cadillac is a big car and finding parking in big cities (especially NYC) is notoriously hard. driving a big, flashy, expensive car (with a bumper sticker of osama bin ladin) and trying to park it could represent a person with a huge sense of entitlement, or an attitude of trying to go into places one doesn't normally belong-- e.g. u.s. in iraq.
