Right Said Fred – Deeply Dippy Lyrics 18 years ago
For me this brings back memories of listening to chart shows I used to tape in the early 90's, Radio One road shows and listening to a proper cassette walkman in the schoolyard, forget MP3's man, taping was far more fun! Funny tune, top delivery!

Right Said Fred – You're My Mate Lyrics 18 years ago
Hang on does that mean RSF aren't gay? Personally I think maybe he's having a cheeky poke(NPI) at trying to 'convert' straight guys in the first verse... the 2nd he cjust ouldn't be bothered to change the lyrics much and made it deliberately ambigous... either way, respect... the ultimate Eurotrash band!

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Iron Lion Zion Lyrics 18 years ago
The popular version of this song was only released as a remixed single in the early 90's I think... strange that one of Bob's best kept secrets never materialied for the first release of 'Legend'... does anyone know when he originally recorded it. Iron Lion Zion, the title is pure genius it could mean so many things but Bob sure seemed to have pure faith and belief in his own destiny, personally I think this song celebrates Rastafarianism in it's purest forms.

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Waiting In Vain Lyrics 18 years ago
Well I'm dead interested to know now, which version is right? Is it for Mrs. Rita Marley or for one of Bob's ladies? This is up there with the best unrequited love songs, it sure has souulll, if this tune has touched you try listening to 'Something about Us' by Daft Punk, I guarantee you're on the right track OOOH GIRL

Pet Shop Boys – Domino Dancing Lyrics 18 years ago
The pain and misconception of falling in love and falling in lust are all expressed deeply here, u can't fail to be emotionally drawn in to the narrator. Tennant's moral here could be that beauty is only skin deep. I only wish in moments of weakness I could have remembered this song!

Pet Shop Boys – Suburbia Lyrics 18 years ago
Another glorious example of how to write catchy pop about something everyone can relate to, this time we're out of the West End and into council estates but the romance is somehow drawn from the violent imagery of the barking dogs and litter/graffitti strewn pavements.... good comment again on the state of 80's Britain! Due for a cover this one methinks

Pet Shop Boys – Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
An infectuous synth riff really ups the urgency of what are apparently simple lyrics... yet it's not hard to see comparisons with some Madonna lyrics here, whic ultimately is what Tennant wanted... it's a perfect Maddy song made and played by the PSB's!

Pet Shop Boys – King's Cross Lyrics 18 years ago
At the time of Actually Tennant was more in the closet than out (like George Michael) but the themes of sin and redemption merge nicely with the legendary station, neglected for many years(St.Pancras moreso) and one can image tramps, drug dealers, rent boys etc etc... the lyrics really promote this sober imagery, brill song too, in my mind the only omission off Discography (wasn't released as a single - why not?).

Pet Shop Boys – Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money) Lyrics 18 years ago
For me this is a glorious send up of all things consumerist, again Tennants lyrics are top notch, showing that writing for Smash Hits paid off nicely... u can't get more 80's than this, tho the production beats the pants off Stock, Aitken and Waterman anyday!! PSB's are the best (and most underatted) pop act of the 80's apart from the Police.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Purple Haze Lyrics 18 years ago
There is no right or wrong answer, Hendrix was a great songwriter and the lyrical ambiguity of Purple Haze "that girl" (Mary Jane and Lucy) and "kiss the sky/kissthisguy" is what makes it a classic stoner anthem... the story about the aliens comes about through experiences of drugs, of course Jimi and the Beatles weren't gonna tell the press they were writing anthems in praise of their precious stash.. u were meant to know it man, 'Are You Experienced' says it all... u weren't meant to listen to the album on strong coffee FACT.

The Stranglers – Nice 'N' Sleazy Lyrics 18 years ago
The nubiles were great but does anyone know what the hell Hugh Cornwall was on when he wrote this one! Verse One seems to be pillaging Saxons and Vikings whereas Verse Two seems to refer to a cool liberal antichrist, preaching the merits of booze and birds!! Nice n Sleazy does it for me every time.
