The Raconteurs – Five on the Five Lyrics 15 years ago
Seems kind of obvious that he is saying he's got his hand on the stick shift.. he is driving.. he's ready to get the hell out of there (after all.. he's been the only one working at the relationship anyway.. he has been doing it all alone). Not sure where this other craziness is coming from (they'll be driving home at 5pm? haha.. he'll be whacking off on the highway? come on). Pretty simple.

The White Stripes – Take, Take, Take Lyrics 16 years ago
I know I'm a bit late on this.. but I can't believe how some people try to draw meaning where there is none. It's plain as day what this song is about.. and those of you day-dreaming that this is about some deep life lesson. It's ok for a song to be straight forward and not about much. Yeah.. it is clearly about his experience with the annoying fans who don't respect personal boundaries.. even when he goes out of his way to sign autographs, etc. Give em an inch and they'll take a mile.

Mark Knopfler – Sucker Row Lyrics 16 years ago
It seems like it is pretty obviously about the west. Either old boomtowns or early Vegas. Most of it seems like it would be a story about a Vegas pioneer who turned a crappy section of town into the strip.

Jack Johnson – Breakdown Lyrics 18 years ago
Seriously. You have to be stretching it to think this is about a relationship. Not every song has to be about a breakup.

The guy is literally saying he is on a train.. probably headed somewhere for business.. and since he appreciates the fact that life isn't just about making money and being busy (The wisdom is in the trees) he is hoping for the train to break down so he could get off and walk around and see various things. Experience life.

Jack Johnson – Situations Lyrics 18 years ago
It may be short.. but this is the best song on the Album... and I think it was intentional that Situation #4 left you wanting more.. I would like to hear more of this song. You might even say it's a crying shame. (Ohhhh.. ZING! haha)

Jack Johnson – If I Could Lyrics 18 years ago
haha. How could you people be so foolish as to not know the concept of an hourglass?!? hahahahaha... that's pretty funny.

That's a good line.

The Who – The Seeker Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about a person who is still searching for their place in life. When he says he has asked Bobby Dylan, The Beatles, Timothy Leary.. has is talking about how he has looked around in his environment for role models on how to live his life. So far no where he has looked has provided him with answers. The fact that he says he won't get to get what he is after until the day he dies is basically him saying he doesn't believe he'll know how to live his life.. (or find the secret to life, that is) until he has lived it and dies. (Whether that means he thinks there is a god who will tell him.. or he will be able to look back and figure out what worked.. he doesn't say). He is a "really desperate man" to figure out where to go from here, though.

Mark Knopfler – Don't Crash the Ambulance Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't see the mafia comparison.. but I can see the Bush thing. (BTW .. it's not senior and junior, though.. given that there is George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.. but people tend to forget this).

Mark Knopfler – Stand Up Guy Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm not really sure.. but most of this song reminds me of the travelling doctors from back in the old west. They would sell snake oil and other "indian" remedies that would generally be used to cure all kinds of things. In reality the stuff was alcohol or something else.. and it really had no value in curing sickness.. He was more of a showman than anything. He would come into town, sell his wares, and hightail it out of there.
