NOFX – Doornails Lyrics 16 years ago
The line "suicide isn't painless" sounds like a reference to the theme from MASH. The melody is even pretty similar.

The Lawrence Arms – Requiem Revisited Lyrics 16 years ago
the whispering at the beginning says "we'll knock back a few and talk about life". I believe this was in a song by Nomeansno. But if you play it backwards it says "neil is dead". weird huh?

The Lawrence Arms – Chapter Thirteen: The Hero Appears Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm not sure this songs lyrics are directly related to the novel other than the title. Although the Master and Margarita is referenced in other places on the liner notes of "The Geatest Story Ever Told", such as sharing the same epigraph, and crediting Ivan Nikolayevich as a musician on the record. I think this record and the novel are connected only by the Lawrence Arms giving a clever nod to Bulgakov and their appreciation of his work... and that the album and this song are not necessarily a musical interpretation following the plot of M+M. I can't believe no one has contested the theme is really ALF or Ghostbusters.

The Stooges – Search and Destroy Lyrics 17 years ago
This song was great until they used it that terrible Bill Murray movie or commercial or whatever the fuck that was.

Kid Rock – Cowboy Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is pretty much the worst song ever and should be eradicated from this earth. Its the kind of shit our parents think all the kids are into, when in reality we're all just playing along and are actually really embarrassed. Just like Limp Bizkit and 50 Cent.

Blink-182 – Another Girl, Another Planet (The Only Ones cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about heroin. Period. Peter Perrett, who originally sang it, was a heroin user whose drug addiction eventually broke up The Only Ones. Listen to the original and tell me that guy wasn't doped up. At the very least, it is a song about a girl that makes you feel so great it is like being on heroin. The opening guitar solo is also pretty terrible in this version. At least the Replacements made an attempt to preserve the anthemic guitar work, even though they were probably drunk on their asses.

Green Day – Private Ale Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about how in a drunken haze, Billie Joe staggers by the Henry Weinhards Brewery, home of Private Reserve Ale, in the middle of the night. This was of course several years ago, when the brewery in downtown Portland Oregon still existed, near the X-Ray cafe, where Green Day first played in that city.

The Replacements – Shiftless When Idle Lyrics 17 years ago
Paul Westerberg wrote this song about his old Honda CB350 motorcycle. It can be very hard to go from 5th gear to 1st at an idle if you haven't downshifted as you came to a stop. Especially on those older bikes. It may have some sort of hidden social meaning as well, but I doubt it.

Bouncing Souls – Night Train Lyrics 18 years ago
Bryan is a motorcycle fanatic and wrote detailed stories about his roadtrips on his Night Train a while back on their website. I figure it is about leaving home for awhile and being on the road alone.

Bouncing Souls – Night On Earth Lyrics 18 years ago
the guy is talking about how when he was with this girl there was all sorts of things he saw differently or didn't see at all. she was the only thing that existed in his life. now, she's gone, and he's sitting back where he started and realizing there's a lot more left to discover. and while he is sad, at the same time he is hopeful about the things he's seeing now and learning about, especially in himself. he has to move on whether he likes it or not.

The Replacements – Here Comes A Regular Lyrics 18 years ago
Sounds like the sad existance of someone wasting away on a barstool. When the bar closes and the cold wind hits him, he realizes summer is over and another year has passed. Friends come and go, some die or go to jail, but he knows everyone here and they know him and he will always have a place there. They are all just like him. Kinda like Cheers.
