The Decemberists – Angel, Won't You Call Me? Lyrics 9 years ago
He tells himself (his rival is himself) that he's not good enough for her. So he's hoping she'll take notice, see some good in him, and call upon him.

Tindersticks – Until The Morning Comes Lyrics 9 years ago
I endured this song from the 20th to the 23rd of February in 2015. It gave me the release to truly let go of this person (with whom I shared this song as a farewell).

For Pi:
He doesn't want to kill her. He just can't believe how hard he's fallen for her. No one would ever know how strongly he could love if it wasn't for her. She brought something beautiful out of him that he'd never realized. She was his dream, and now she can't be with him. And yet, he's not upset. He's consoling her, how terrible she feels as she's wanting to leave. He does this because he has hope now. He knows how to truly love as he ventures through this tiny part of the universe. All he wants to do (just as I did on our last night together) before it's truly over is hold her "Until The Morning Comes."

Cake – Frank Sinatra Lyrics 13 years ago
I believe you hit the nail on the head, jfrench. This song is a ballad dedicated to the educated elderly in our world who must endure the pain of watching humanity repeat the same mistakes of its history and watch as it carries on with indifference.

Radiohead – Where I End and You Begin. (The Sky Is Falling In.) Lyrics 14 years ago
If you mean love as in humanitarian discernment, I would agree. If you mean love in the romantic sense, I would say put down the spoon and tub of ice cream and quit watching the Notebook.

I believe the same conflict could be existential between humanity with itself and humanity with the earth.

God's perspective seems visible in verse two. "Where I end and where you start" (5th line of 2nd verse) leads me to believe this is not a reference to God, but a spiritual entity that was once physical (deceased).

I went into more detail on the bottom of page 4.

In my explanation (on page 4), I believe Yorke speaks from the Earth's point of view in the fourth verse: "I will eat you (humanity) alive. There will be no more lies (falsehoods promoting ignorance to environmental and humanitarian awareness)."

I like how Turismo417 related the song to the album title, so I posted this reply with my interpretation of the album title and its correlation to the song.

In this Information Age, it has been profitable to some to keep or steal information from the public eye. Money, power, and violence are major influences on the deprivation of information. For example, nicotine addiction symptoms:tobacco industry::fossil fuel pollution affecting climate change:fossil fuel industry. Researchers and scientists have risked endangering their lives to bring the truth to the world. And to those who have stolen the truth...

HAIL TO THE THIEF!

In correlation to "Where I End and You Begin," the lies which the earth speaks of in the fourth verse are those which attempt to cover up or discredit evidence promoting environmental and humanitarian awareness. In the second verse, the spiritual/digested being is able to see these lies but cannot take part in exposing them.

"The Sky Is Falling In" references the fable of Chicken Little, a story of how hysteria allows the formation of unsubstantiated beliefs, where fear makes one think and act irrationally.

I made an attempt to read every comment about this song to keep my thoughts genuine, so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else's words/ideas.

The first two verses are the perspective of a human being, speaking to one of two entities: humanity and/or the earth. The first verse speaks from the human in a physical state. The second verse speaks from a spiritual/digested state. The third verse takes a more universal stance. The fourth verse is the perspective of the earth.

"There's a gap in between
There's a gap where we meet
Where I end and you begin"

The person is either speaking to humanity, from which he or she is separated by death, or the earth, if he or she had been buried in a burial box, separating him or her from the earth.

"I'm sorry for us
The dinosaurs roam the earth
The sky turns green
Where I end and you begin"

To humanity: Lament that death comes to all, and the possibility of human extinction is evident due the dinosaurs and other extinct species.

To the earth: The sky turns green as the grass grows over the physical body, digested by the earth.

"I am up in the clouds
I am up in the clouds
And I can't and I can't come down
I can watch and not take part
Where I end and where you start
Where you, you left me alone
You left me alone"

To humanity and earth: As a spiritual/digested entity, he or she cannot interact with the physical world to help humanity co-exist with itself and preserve the earth. Where the person has been left alone is where his or her physical body has been placed in the earth.

"X will mark the place
Like the parting of the waves
Like a house falling in the sea
In the sea"

The gravestone/marker indicates where the person was buried. As the burial box is placed in the ground, the unearthed dirt surrounding the mouth of the hole resembles a house if it had fallen into the sea, parting the waves. Eventually the burial box, like the house, would be digested by the earth.

"I will eat you alive x 4
And there will be no more lies
There will be no more lies x 3
I will eat you alive x 4
And there will be no more lies
There will be no more lies x 3
I will eat you alive x 4
And there will be no more lies
There will be no more lies x 3
I will eat you alive x 3"

Earth speaks to humanity: Although humans are capable of lying, the earth is not. History rests in the earth, like the bones of dinosaurs and burial boxes of the dead. It doesn't matter to the earth whether humankind exists or expires. The earth will still prevail.

Moral to the story: Take care of the earth and each other.

Led Zeppelin – Thank You Lyrics 18 years ago
"Kind woman, I give you my all. Kind woman, nothing more."

That's all a woman should ever want to hear.

"If the sun refused to shine, I would still be loving you. When mountains crumble to the sea, there will still be you and me."

The most poignant of all statements I've heard in all my life. A lover tells his beloved his love for her knows no bounderies, no sense of time, no end.

The instrumental conclusion brings the two lovers together after the man confesses to the woman just how much love he has for her. In a way, you could suppose, they cling to one another, dancing, even after the song seems to have ended. Strangely, for me, having listened to it so much, the song never seems to have an ending. It concludes the way it begins, but it never seems to end. This idea of perpetual love hits. The moment you stop hearing the song, the silence continues the song. The lovers' dance is never-ending.

M83 – Teen Angst Lyrics 18 years ago
Many folks believe their days get so complicated because they have too much to do and never enough time to do it in. This song stops us to appreciate the little time we have to enjoy the moments that should mean the most to us. Especially our times in youth, when love is first discovered, and sends us flying through the universe, the way the song seems to be doing.

"I am so glad we're crying," the lyrics I hear in the end, is the appreciation someone has for having a soul.
