Shout Out Louds – Time Left for Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Caterpillar as in the insect, or as in the brand of earthmoving machinery? I'm tending to think the machinery considering the car references - "engine was still running" "smashed a window" etc, but I'm aware those references could also be about someone asphyxiating themselves with a car exhaust... but genereally people don't commit suicides as a team... The "rumour" about the reason behind their death being a "serial killer" seems odd and clumsy - generally their lyrics are better than this. When you hear of a tragedy - ie. two young people dying - the first thing that comes to mind is not that they've been murdered by a serial killer; it seems like a strange rumour... Great song nonetheless. |
Austra – The Choke Lyrics | 12 years ago |
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046126/ I haven't seen it yet, but will. Has anyone seen it or know whether I'm on the right track? |
Austra – Lose It Lyrics | 12 years ago |
To me, this comes across as the speaker, presumably a female, being torn as to whether she should break up with her partner, cheat, or remain faithful. |
Austra – Hate Crime Lyrics | 12 years ago |
rape? |
The Knife – Parade Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I know very little about history, Russia, Stalin, etc, so thank you magicalhobo6. Taking Barnard17, Seedsightsound and magicalhobo6's interpretations into consideration I think we are very close to right. I think this is a naturalistic allegory. One one level this is, as seedsightsound and barnard17 have said, the story of some people looking for firewood and doing astral projection in the early morning. On another level, this can be seen as a metaphor for the collapse of the Soviet Union. The only other thing I can add is that, since the title is Parade, and it may have something to do with Communism, I instantly thought of 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being', more specifically the Communist parade at the end of the novel. There seem to be lots of political references in The Knife's lyrics. Thank you to previous posters for their insights |
The Presets – My People Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I was singing this song at home and my Mum pointed out that the line "tall and tan and young and lovely" is an homage to Frank Sinatra's The Girl From Ipanema. Just thought I'd add that in as my two cents. |
Fever Ray – Seven Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Listen to 'Lasagna' by The Knife. Is this the same friend Karin is speaking about? |
Fever Ray – Coconut Lyrics | 13 years ago |
olof went to the amazon to record for 'tomorrow, in a year' (which i saw a week ago, it was very good!), not the tropics. I really don't think this is about Olof at all. I would love to offer a suggestion, but I don't have much. I get the feeling it's about a father figure. The answer to the meaning of this song is in these lines "we have water mouth sand in pockets and a strained household" but, I don't know exactly what this means. |
Fever Ray – Triangle Walks Lyrics | 13 years ago |
oh, and of course the difficulty sleeping / insomnia that many women experience after childbirth (especially because baby needs feeding, etc), so the fatigue is making her think dark thoughts about a magpie, which she in turn laughs at herself for. |
Fever Ray – Triangle Walks Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Volcom7689 is right. It's about her self-reflexive irony towards a magpie sitting outside the window and eating berries. She laughs at herself for entertaining the idea that a bird could symbolise death, and for thinking she needed to shoo it away by throwing sticks at her. This album was made in her "post-natal mood", where a woman is, naturally, almost entirely focused on looking after her baby; it's a little laugh at herself for being over-protective. |
The Knife – Kino Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I agree that it certainly appears to be about "the mysterious feeling of being raped, and karins desire to be a arctic fox", but the mood is far too upbeat and happy and insouciant for it to be about such a horrible topic. Could it simply be about a chance encounter with an arctic fox? Or something else? With that said, her attitude towards rape in "Na Na Na" is also quite nonchalant, so maybe it is about rape. |
The Knife – Reindeer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i like your interpretation very much. |
The Knife – One for You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
First verse = I'm sorry for your loss Second verse = It's not your fault Third verse = Existentialist "God is dead" type of idea, that religion is a crutch. There is no afterlife. Fourth verse = No idea. This song comes right before "The Cop", which may or may not be a clue. |
The Knife – I Just Had to Die Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"i had this urge to die" - the girl "i've got a bad desire" - the voyeur / paedophile(?) who is responsible for her death? |
The Knife – Parade Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i dont think it has anything to do with drugs. seems like they were looking for the site of a plane crash, but the title 'parade' doesn't seem to correlate with this. also, "i am too a spirit and a wonderer" doesn't really fit with looking for a plane crash.. strange. they love the sun, don't they? |
Phoenix – Girlfriend Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i agree. "die and succeed" is talking about sexual climax. 'La petite mort', French for "the little death", is a metaphor for orgasm. |
Lisa Mitchell – Pirouette Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"these silent offerings, they're only causing oh darling I was never free, for the taking" should be ""these silent offerings, that only cowards sing, oh darling I was never free, for the taking" |
Fever Ray – I'm Not Done Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Lautre, according to the Fever Ray website this song is about her refusal to retire from making music, which makes sense too, so now I'm a little confused as to which scenario is correct, however Karin's lyrics are never completely literal, part of their appeal.. I like your idea about Huxley's 'Brave New World', I'm going to listen to it now, |
Fever Ray – I'm Not Done Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It ain't over; I'm not done (in this relationship). Person 1 addressing Person 2, who they have presumably broken up with, they don't feel they've had closure, that they want them back, etc. I love it, it's pertinent to me, to an extent. |
Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
ok, i'm probably wrong, but here is some interesting info. donnie - donnie darko - this type of film is right up fob's alley miss flack - as mentioned above, there was a singer 'roberta flack' - in donnie darko the old lady is called roberta sparrow. tenuous, i know.. keep a calender - donnie darko keeps a calender, one of the more important parts of the movie. you'll never catch us - frank tells donnie he can do whatever he wants and he won't be caught. the concepts of god/fate/predeterminism, etc are prevalent throughout 'donnie darko', the line about God going down with the world when it ends fits. in fact, im almost certain donnie asks his science teacher if this is the case. the more i go on, the more i am convincing myself i am right.. finally, another way to interpret the lines "...I'm the one who charmed the one who gave up on you" could be "I'm the one who charmed 'The One' (soulmate), who (also) gave up on you" ie; i charmed you, and i also gave up on you - although donnie doesnt give up on gretchen, he does sacrifice his life for her, giving up the chance to try and live out the 28 days differently in order to keep her alive (and not have her run over), which he could have done... i guess he didnt want to take the risk, therefore giving her up?? well i'm convinced lol, dont know about you guys... |
Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
hmmm but it's 'donny hathaway', not 'donnie hathaway' - otherwise, very good pickup... there's no chance it could be a donnie darko reference, is there? |
MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lyrics are facetious and whimsical, the delivery is not. This does not mean it's to be taken seriously! The lyrics are what make the meaning of the song, and I think this song is just pointing fun at the cliche 'rockstar' lifestyle.. |
Fall Out Boy – 20 Dollar Nose Bleed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely lots of drug references, but why include the references to the war, especially when it seems to be a 'please take me back' song? My guess - it's a song to the girlfriends of the band members likening the band's return from touring to soldiers coming home from war; exhausted (drug dependent?), damaged, etc.. |
The Killers – Joy Ride Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Set in the desert, like many Killers songs and themes, he picks up the lady of the night and takes her to a seedy motel because his 'chips are down', his 'highs are low' and wants a 'Joyride' - something to take his mind off his troubles and to give him a bit of a pep-up. Personally I've never been to a prostitute, but I imagine it would be a depressing, unrewarding experience, and where the protagonist in the song starts talking of lofty ideals - "A glorious existance, A simple celebration ,A place you've never been before" he is saddened to realise that this woman cannot/will not share them with him, she doesn't love him at all, she's just earning a dollar. This point is underlined by the whispered line 'Why won't you kiss me?', she won't kiss him because she doesn't love him and he is starting to believe he can't win' - that he'll never find what he wants (love). Fairly saddening song in my opinion.. |
The Killers – Losing Touch Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Roamin' vagabond certainly makes more sense... |
Ja Rule – Always On Time (feat. Ashanti) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
they dont play ja rule's good shit on the radio.. or anyone's elses good shit unfortunately- just catchy girly rnb. the result of this is haters (like some of u posters) say something stupid like "ja rule can only make a hit with girls".. that doesnt mean his other shit isnt good it just means most ppl prefer rnb to true gangsta.. suck a dick. no homo |
Jewel – Jesus Loves You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
