The Bush campaign was forced to stop because they failed to obtain permission from the copyright owner, songwriter John Hall. Hall also supported Bush's opponent, John Kerry. In September 2005, the band offered Senator Bill Nelson (D-Florida) to use the song for his re-election bid against Katherine Harris, the Republican secretary of state who helped deliver Florida to George W. Bush in 2000. This song would be a good campaign theme song for an incumbent running for re-election and reminds me of Fleetwood Mac's "Dont Stop" since both evoke happy feelings. |
