Amanda Palmer – Astronaut: A Short History of Nearly Nothing Lyrics 14 years ago
This song makes me think of the wives whose husbands go away to war. (Space exploration, war? Either one works...) It's a terribly romanticised job, but in the end it's also a really dangerous one. Those do end up dying might be labelled as heroes, but what consolation does that give?- "Just my luck they found your upper half/ it's a very nice reminder."

Also, from the point of veiw of the astronaut, the vision of the future is very bleak in "You've travelled all this way and it's the same." What if you've risked your life to travel the universe and nothing's any different.

The begining of this song is apocyliptically epic. I love how you can hear the the echo in the body of the piano when it goes all quiet.

It's so... violently clappable. I love it!

Patrick Wolf – Blackdown Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't know about anyone else, but I definately hear some Larrikin Love in there with the jiggy ending with the violin. I wonder whether there will be another "story" in the sleevenotes for the Bachelor like with TMP. And whether sleevenotes will fold out in such an accordian-way. I'm so excited.

Patrick Wolf – A Boy Like Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Wow. I never got the connection between the whole riding a girraffe on the rocks in this song, and the album cover for TMP. In an interview I found on Youtube, ("Patrick Wolf and everyday objects"- he talks about marmite. deoderant, and being mugged at knifepoint) he showed The Magic Position cover, and talked about finally getting to ride that giraffe of his. Hang on, I know why I never noticed... my TMP cover is different- he's in red, and he's riding the...deer-type--animal. Nevermind.

Patrick Wolf – The Childcatcher Lyrics 15 years ago
Even though this wasn't written about a young child, it still has aspects of that to it. Fairytale references "You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man!" and the distortion of the chorus. It makes me think of a monster under the bed (the ultimate childhood fear) crossed with the fear of rape.

It sends shivers down the back of my neck. I feel bad that I like this song. The content creeps me out.

Patrick Wolf – Short Stories Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is so beautiful. The first part is like a love song, but as the second verse starts and it becomes more fast-paced, I imagine a wolf running through a forest at highspeed.

It's such a simple song, but so wonderful

Patrick Wolf – Beastiality Lyrics 15 years ago
Animalistic is the perfect way to describe this song. I was just talking the other day with someone about the ambiguity of whether something's meant to be a metaphor or not- Beastiality being the song in question.

I have a live version of this from the Wolf's Lair website, does anyone know if there is a studio b-side or something?

Patrick Wolf – Six Moons Ago Lyrics 15 years ago
Scouring this PW profile to find any of his songs I haven't heard, while I eagerly await his next release. Where can I find this song?

Lulu, I totally agree. Patrick Wolf music is lullaby music! Or can be. Especially this b side, the Tower. Man, I could listen to his crooning voice all day and night and not get tired of it. I have used it as lullaby music before.

Patrick Wolf – Don't Say No Lyrics 15 years ago
Does anyone know what the little part at the end of it is? It sounds like some kind of animal (a wolf would be apt, but it doesn't quite sound like a wolf), and it does this rhythmic beat and then someone goes "Aha! Aha!" I could never really figure out what that was...

The Used – Find a Way Lyrics 16 years ago
About a minute into the song, there's this background female voice that seems to be saying something, but I can't figure out what. [If you wanna keep making MCR parallels, it's kind of like the distorted voice at the begining of "Sleep", only it's a girl... I think.] Is that the "Gollum" bit someone was talking about?

My Chemical Romance – My Way Home Is Through You Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that this song is the band's look at their fans. While they [we] mean everything to the band, having a massively devoted fanbase can be stressful. I think maybe Gerard's trying to say that it's fantastic to be getting his message across, but it's still kind of weird that so many fans know so much about him without really knowing him- "Could you sign this photograph, Cuz I'm your biggest fan"-
I think the parent/ drug metaphor is about fans trying to escape from what they're being forcefed by their parents, by listening to MCR. The chorus might be about fans defining themselves through their love of MCR.

I love this song. Definatley "violent unsafe pop" for sure :)

My Chemical Romance – Mama Lyrics 17 years ago
This is my favorite song off the album. Seeing as "The End" is actually the first track, I'm thinking that maybe this rock opera is in reverse. Possibly.
Blood- a random song about blood donors
Famous Last Words-"walking this world alone" as in having lost a loved one is maybe a metaphor for leaving a lover?
Disenchanted- [Anyone else have the demo *made at least a year before the album's release on theimmortalityproject.com *also called "Shut Up and Play"** maybe a pre-emtpive look at how he's going to die?
Teenagers- the guy had a bad childhood, maybe
Sleep- Haven't listened much to this one, but it might be about the guy going off to war and realising how horrible it really is, then
MAMA!!!- Perhaps the guy cut off the connections to his mother, and so this is the first she's heard from him [writing to her in the war] telling her how "we're all going to hell", and how he wishes he could change the past. Needless to say, she would not be happy to hear that after all these years, her son writes back to her to tell her what an awful place the world is.
I actually laughed out loud the first time I heard the line "it's really quite pleasant except for the smell."
He's had a leg amputated, and felt that he came so close to death.
Cancer- Now that the guy's back from the war, he's got cancer, which really tears things up between his family [it's the most heart-wrenching song!] so he's maybe living with his aunt because he doesn't want to hurt his mother any more 'call my aunt marie...'
House of Wolves- He's got the cancer, but it hasn't affected him [physically] so much yet, so he's livin' it up
I Don't Love You- Now he's sick and he's cutting off all connections with friends and family so it won't be as hard for them when he goes. He's possibly trying to reject a lover, so he'll already have been dead to her when he dies.
Welcome To The Black Parade- Now he's regressing. Remembering his father's words about standing up for "the beaten and the damned" and instead he's gone off to war. So now he's trying to recall a happy memory; going to a parade with his father.
The Sharpest Lives- this one's a little abstract. Maybe towards the end his reality is a little blurred and going on about "the cannibal show" *I like the line ..."and lather the blood on your hands- Romeo"
This Is How I Dissapear- He's finally mourning for the loss of his family and friends, and finding himself completley alone and almost dead.
Dead- He's dead, and everyone's trying to cover the loss by saying "I never really liked him anyway", maybe because of going off to war, and their hearing about how much he upset his mother
The End- The closing curtain, and he's seeing how much people really loved him, looking down on his funeral.

Well, that's my two cents. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

David Bowie – Under Pressure Lyrics 18 years ago
Ick. I really don't like Vanilla Ice, and what's sad is that everytime I listen to this song, I think of that song! 'TIs awful! Why? WHY did they have to choose this song to ruin! It's such a good song! Just like now every wannabe pop artist is sampling Tainted Love, or at least it's riff.
I know people are going to boo and hiss and throw small rocks at me, but I also like the My Chem/ The Used cover of this song as well. But nothing will ever be as good as the original.

David Bowie – Underground Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh.... oh dear. I can't believe I'm only the 6th person to review this song. I agree with killswitch916. The opening titles of Labyrinth are _the best_ Although I prefer the movie version to the version with the backup vocals.
I know these are the actual lyrics "life *can* be easy", but doesn't that contradict "It's not always swell"?
Secondly, what is everyone's interpretation of "underground"? Most obviously it would be Jareth's kingdom of the Labyrinth, but if you take it literally, it could be a religeous kind of thing "when you get to heaven *nothing ever hurts again*" and you would physically *be* underground.
Good song. Very good song :)

I dunno where you can get PP.... I just heard of them on Life on The Murder Scene [Frank Iero]. I checked at JB HI FI... they said they thought it was discontinued.. and they have like... EVERYTHING! I reckon you'll have to Limewire it. That's what I'm doing. These guys are so cool!*

Umm.. that's gonna sound kinda sus lol! Anyway. here's my opinion. [ Also going with what I found from the Life On The Murder Scene menus]The guy and the girl are gonna get married, and then he goes crazy and shoots her [either some suicide pact he didn't wanna enter into, or he wnet crazy with rage and shot her out of revenge.] On the picture of her all blood covered she seems happy, so I think she wanted to die. He feels bad and tries to revive her, getting blood all over his mouth in the process. Then he goes to the doctor, realises it's gonna look kinda bad, buries her, and some random finds her and she's taken to the mourge where they find she's been shot repeatedly in the chest. Check the menus from LOTMS. Combined with those, it's a full story made especially for it! Really good :)

My Chemical Romance – Desert Song Lyrics 18 years ago
Haha, in the last couple of days I've posted one for this song along with other people. Anyway, I think this song was made to fit in with the whole "Demolition Lovers 2" theme going on in Life on The Murder Scene [Yes, apart from the song, the artwork on Three Cheers is called "Demolition Lovers 2", the tray artwork of the girl int the mourge [which I now know is the same character from the cover artwork] is called "Just The Way it Goes. Check the sleevenotes on the back if you want.] But also the dude with the bloody face is the same guy from the front artwork. Looks really graphic on the Life on The Murder Scene cover :) So, it's kinda obvious that "he" shot "her", also if you scroll through the menus you can see she was shot in the chest [on the live videos on disk 2.] and the only other question is motive! Was it a suicide pact that she willingly carried out so they could be together forever, or did something happen and he wanted to get revenge? Revenge sounds better fitting in with MCR's revenge theme though. Well, whatever happened, he covered it up and buried her, but it was un-covered and taken back to the mourge. I think he shot her in a fit of rage, realised what he'd done while she was still barely alive, the blood splattered onto her face, he did the whole "hugging her dying body to his chest "I'm so sorry"" thing. She loved him though, maybe shw wanted to die? He tried to get her to a doctor, decided not to, and THEN hid the body.

My Chemical Romance – The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You Lyrics 18 years ago
"Hotel of beautiful death"? I heard in an interview with Gerard and Mikey [you can find it on The Immortality Project somewhere] that this song is "completley about drug addiction" and that comes across clear"it gives the weak flight" -it makes them feel better about themselves when they're high or whatever "it gives the blind sight" - same thing again. But I'm wondering about the "hotel Bella Mourte." I read somewhere on this site that someone thought it was all one big story, with the whole "story about a man, a woman and the corpse of a thousand evil men" like in the sleevenotes. This lyric kinda connects to You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us in Prison where Bert goes "do you have the keys to the hotel..." and... I dunno.... could it make sence?

Fall Out Boy – Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) Lyrics 18 years ago
OMG! You're right! The spoken ending does sound like the begining of I'm A Fake. I reckon it's because of the effect they did with the guitar (not sure what the technical term was or whatever) but it starts out really faint as background noise, and gets louder and more frantic, like it does on I'm a Fake. I love that song too. And this song. They both kick ass!

The Used – Noise And Kisses Lyrics 18 years ago
I hate it when people take a perfectly good song and rather than try and find another reason, put the song down to being about sex. The first page of comments seemed ok, but then people wanted to put a different spin on "opening up" Oh haha. You've got real wit there. I think it's about a guy pouring his heart out to this girl, then feeling like shit when he realises that he's the one doing all the talking. You'd feel kind of vulnerable if the person hadn't said anything back, even tried to relate to you and just... well written you off as some emotionally disturbed person and walked away and had a good laugh about it all. "Give it to me, give me all, what ever you want" is him being so desperate for her to want to talk to him that he'd be happy talking about the weather, as long as they were talking. The Used rocks!

Ok. Just read an interview with Gerard- apparently her name was Elena, but people called her Helen. And he kinda fused the two together to make Helena. Great song.

No Code? Are you talking about The Emo Song? (A bad pay out to emos everywhere. That was so sad.) I'm really glad no-one came to pay out this song or the band (don't you just hate it when these peep's just come on this site to say how much they think a band sucks and then it goes into this full-blown arguement...?) I know this song was in memory of Gerard and Mikey's grandma, Elena. So why did they change the name to "H"elena? Hmm. It's a good clip too. Is it just me or does Helena look like a dead version on Cuddy from the show House? Ok. Just my weirded out view.

I can't belive people are dissing GC and assessing their "punkness"! Sure, they've gone abit mainstream and appeal to preps, but who cares! I don't care wheather you're gonna label GC as punk/ emo/ rock or whatever! I just like their sound. They just wanna get out there and do their thing! Can't everyone relate to this song? "For every kid who got picked last in gym class." That happened to me every day of year 7. "For every kid who never got a date to no school dance." Uhh. What can I say? "This is for everyone who's ever been called a freak." It's like "shoutout's to you!" This is a great song. Sure they've sounded diferent with every album they make. but it's cool! And by the way, I think they're working on a new album coming out later this year (that's 2006... just so like.. ten years later there'll be no confusion) So yeah. Great song. Great Band.
