The Killers – Bones Lyrics
|
... I think it's about a guy trying to finally have sex with a girl, and she turns him down. The chorus is trying to convince her to do it with him.
The angel might be just comfort he invents when she turns him down, I think, I'm not sure. |

The Killers – This River Is Wild Lyrics
|
I see really heavy Bruce Springsteen influences in this one, particularly the "Adam's taking bombs...." segment.
I had the in all likelihood very farfetched idea that the "man in red" could be Christ returning to earth for the Second Coming, but this hardly makes sense with the rest of the song and the only reason I thought of it is given Flowers' background as a Mormon and their belief Christ will return wearing red garments. And that there's a lot of religious imagery in the Killers songs.
The river-- I think it's basically life in general. Whoever the man is, he's trying to give advice to the boy about life.
"I could stay here all night..."-- he could just stick around and not do anything and let life happen around him. But the river-- life-- is wild and it shouldn't be like that. |

Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline Lyrics

My parents named my little sister Caroline after this song, so naturally it means a lot to me.
Extremely sweet song about a relationship he didn't expect to last, but did. I love it. |

Augustana – Boston Lyrics
|
Everyone's said basically what this song is about-- leaving someone and someplace, starting over-- but what really struck me was the line about the flowers not being the only ones who cry when they see you-- I think it's a reference to the dew on flowers in the morning... kind of neat. |

The Doors – Touch Me Lyrics
|
... I'm probably the only one and I don't blame you guys if you shoot me down for this one, but--
I always thought it was about a guy's relationship with a lesbian or bisexual girl. "Why won't you tell me what she said?" If "she" is the one that said "I'm gonna love you till the heavens stop the rain," etc., then evidentally the girl has had a lesbian relationship with her. But the guy doesn't care ("can't you see that I am not afraid"), or else still doesn't know "what she said."
... Anyway. Shoot me down all you want, but that's what I've always thought about that song. |

Ozark Mountain Daredevils – Jackie Blue Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I really like this song. I always took it to mean the girl tried to make everyone feel sorry for her but the singer saw through the guise... playing with everyone else's emotions ("poor Jackie's so unhappy!")... or something. |

The Monkees – I'm A Believer Lyrics
|
You know, I find it sad that the year this came out it was the number one song in the world and it only gets four comments now...
Anyway. Fantastic song, always seriously lifts the mood. I don't think there's really much to analyze-- I love this song. |

Simon and Garfunkel – Mrs. Robinson Lyrics
| 18 years ago

I remember reading somewhere that Joe DiMaggio was always annoyed by the song, something to the effect of "Why are they mentioning me?" and he never understood it.
Woman has affair, woman tries to hide it, and the singer mocks. |

Simon and Garfunkel – America Lyrics
|
Lovely, lovely song. What always struck me so about it is that none of it rhymes at all, and yet it doesn't sound disjointed or unpoetic at all-- if anything, it's better for it. It takes something to write one like that. |

Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics
|
I'm surprised that no one's mentioned that the lines "it was just that the time was wrong" and "you know the movie song" could be references to the sixties' movie Romeo and Juliet (the theme song was "A Time for Us).
Beautiful song, it gets me in a kind of sad, wistful mood every time... |

Man, why hasn't anyone commented on this song? I always really liked it. I think the lyrics explain themselves... it's a nice song. |

The Police – Roxanne Lyrics
|
As has been said, it's about a guy that falls in love with a prostitute that tries to convince her to stop what she's doing... I'm probably wrong but I always thought the lyric went "I won't share you with another man," not "another boy." |

The Beatles – While My Guitar Gently Weeps Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
My favorite Beatles song, bar none. I remember when George died the radio kept playing that song, then my mother sang along kind of sadly because he was her favorite Beatle, too.
It's so smooth, and the melody's just haunting; I love it. |

The Beatles – Michelle Lyrics

I spent so long wondering what the French part meant. I was so disgusted when I took French and found out it was the exact same thing as the English part!
It's a really sweet song, though... |

The Beatles – Rocky Raccoon Lyrics

This song's so cute... as a kid I thought it was a tragedy indeed... even now I'll still break into "Rocky you met your match/Rocky said 'Doc it's only a scratch/and I'll be better, Doc, I'll be better, as soon as I am able...'" on occasion... |

Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics

Probably my favorite Bruce Springsteen song.
Basically I agree with everyone else on this one-- life's dragging the guy down, he just wants someone to jazz up the routine, just a little. |

Let the good times roll indeed. XD I don't really think there's anything to analyze about this song, but I always liked it. |

Bob Marley and the Wailers – I Shot The Sheriff Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
I remember reading somewhere that after this song came out or something, there was a big case in which someone actually did shoot a sheriff, so they stopped playing this song on the radio... I could very well be wrong, though.
Naive me, I always thought the guy in the song had no morals and was just leading away others with his ideals ("plant a seed/kill it before it grows")... |

The last stanza before the chorus... don't know why but I always thought it was like the husband talking when he found out.

Rod Stewart – Young Turks Lyrics

I always thought it was sort of a sarcastic song, actually-- it keeps saying time's on your side, but by the end it's clear it definitely isn't. |

Annihilator – Ligeia Lyrics

This is all referencing the short story by Poe, "Ligeia," in which a beloved but sickly wife dies, then possesses the man's new wife once he remarries, to the extent that the new wife, Rowena, becomes Ligeia. |

Pinehurst Kids – Gatsby Lyrics
|
The title "Gatsby" is probably a reference to the book "The Great Gatsby," which was basically about a guy (Gatsby) that was willing to sacrifice everything about himself for the woman that he loved who turned out to be absolute trash compared to him, though he never seemed to realize it.
the little black box
thats there after we crash
solemnly you'll play the facts
so they can hear how bad
we had it
This could be a reference to towards the end of the novel, when Daisy (the girl) runs over someone in Gatsby's car. In the novel, Gastby took the blame for her and was murdered (black box) for it. |

The Rolling Stones – Lady Jane Lyrics
|
Ladies Jane, Anne, and Marie seem to all be references to each murdered aristocrat-- Lady Jane was beheaded by her sister Queen Mary when she (Jane) was crowned Queen for maybe a couple of days, Queen Anne was beheaded by her husband, and Marie is Queen Marie Antoinette, also beheaded.
What's funny is that the only one he stays with in the song is Lady Jane... I sort of wonder why that was... |

The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics

Gosh, Jim Morrison was hot. My mom actually gave away one of her Doors records with him on the cover. I nearly cried.

The Cyrkle – Turn Down Day Lyrics

It's kind of obvious... just a lazy day where nothing's going on, so the guy's just going to lay around at the beach and stare at pretty girls, the perv. XD But I still like that song. |

Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street Lyrics
|
Heh, even though this was written like thirty years before the manga Diabolo came out it's still what I'm most reminded of when I hear this song... and the relationship between Rai and Ren...
But at any rate it was probably just intended to be about a backstabbing girlfriend. But even through all the harsh lyrics, it seems as though he still feels a little bit toward her, what with the "I do not feel too good when I see the heartaches you embrace"-- so maybe she's on drugs or with a bunch of bad influences/boyfriends now? |

Don Henley – The Last Worthless Evening Lyrics

This song's pretty straightforward... girlfriend and boyfriend break up, two years later the boyfriend is still in love with her and just wants one last chance with her.

And just so many springs --Life and youth are short, take them while they last. |

Bob Dylan – Just Like a Woman Lyrics
|
I figured it was about a girl that was forced into prostitution, possibly for financial reasons ("Everybody knows/That baby's got new clothes"-- or that could signify a hooker's clothes). "But lately I see her ribbons and her bows/Have fallen from her curls"-- loss of innocence/virginity?
And he's ashamed in a sense that he's gone to see a prostitute, and if she ever comes back up in the world and they see each other again, he doesn't want her to tell anyone about when they "knew" each other before, so his reputation won't be wrecked. |

Tom Petty – American Girl Lyrics
|
This is a classic... as a lot of people've said, there is the story about it being about a girl that committed suicide, either on drugs or because her boyfriend broke up with her... but I *think*-- not quite sure-- I remember reading somewhere that that wasn't Petty's intention.
Ah well, I still think that was what it was about... |
