Jewel – I'm Sensitive Lyrics
|
I think you guys who are making this an "all girls are sensitive" thing are off the mark. The second verse, where she says, "you always tell me it's impossible to be respected and be a girl is" is actually the weakest in the song ... if you take all the others together, she's talking about the same kind of idealism Lennon meant in "Imagine". Just like he's not the only dreamer, she's not the only sensitive person, male or female -- this is an anthem saying that being sensitive is a *good* thing. Better be an everyday angel in the world than just one more bitter, mistrustful cynic. |

Poe – Not A Virgin Lyrics

Part of why this song is fun is that it is deliberately over the top. "If you want to play dirty I'm gonna win" is at the heart of it ... it's more of a bragging/challenging thing than anything else. |

Poe – Angry Johnny Lyrics

Hm. Listen to "Control" if you want Poe angry. Those who think she's really talking about killing the guy are being too literal. Not that she's particularly happy with Johnny here, but the "killing" she's talking about is something ultimately for his own good, at least in her mind. If you listen to the whole album, the pity/compassion/contempt thing is aimed at the "other" in several songs. |

Simon and Garfunkel – A Most Peculiar Man Lyrics
| 18 years ago

The point is he wasn't peculiar at all, he was just a normal guy ... a normal lonely, apparently rather introverted guy. But basically people shouldn't assume someone "isn't like them" because he seems not-very-social. The overall point being that people are people, human. And people need people. |

Suzanne Vega – Institution Green Lyrics

It's not specifically about abortion, just about the alienation we can experience in such a situation -- rather than anything human, you're just processed through. |

Suzanne Vega – The Queen And The Soldier Lyrics

It is a beautiful song, but she does have him killed in the end. It is more tragic that she would choose the unhappiness and isolation she knew over the possibility of love with him, but also probably more true to life that way. |

Suzanne Vega – Bad Wisdom Lyrics

No, actually the song is only one child talking. It's not about pregnancy or drugs or cutting or suicide, sorry. "fallen through the crack" and "cut like a weed" are just metaphors. The "bad wisdom" referred to is early knowledge of sex ... basically the song is about the impact of sexual abuse. |
