I doubt this song is political in meaning. I think that's just a facade for the politcally restless to bite down upon. That being said, I believe they are talking about the moral depravity of the U.S. For instance, America was founded on the basic principles of Christianity, but left the freedom of religion for those who didn't believe it. However, this freedom was also what would inadvertantly lead to the moral downfall of America. For example, rather than stand for what they believed, the Happyfolk(Americans) were blinded by the fear of what they had strived so hard not to be that they allowed the Strangefolk(sin, hatred, whatever you want them to symbolize) into their lives. Once this Strangefolk entered their lives they were powerless against it because they not only let it in, but let it thrive and suck the life out of the very institution they had tried so hard to protect. Just my 2 cents. |
