Jefferson Starship – Jane Lyrics 18 years ago
Underrated. Hands down, one of the greatest underrated eighties tunes. Back before Kantner pulled the legal shotgun and launched a bullet to the Starship gang giving Mickey and the boys a shot, shaking off the "Jefferson" part of the title. Awesome song.

Jefferson Starship – Miracles Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow. This song is awesome. Jefferson Starship's best, next to "Ride The Tiger". Nobody put that up on this joint? I'll have to find the lyrics for it. Anyway, this song is amazing. Funny thing is, I never gave the lyrics much thought. But now that you guys mention it, I'm giving it a closer listen right now.

Jefferson Starship – Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now Lyrics 18 years ago
It is a cheesy song. A huge guilty pleasure. I'm actually learning this song on guitar. Hopefully, if I get good enough, I can play it for my girlfriend. lol. I hope too much. I have no talent. Anyway, the song. It's a great song. I never saw Mannequin, but I've heard alot about it. When it comes to eighties movies, generally, if it isn't tagged with John Hughes, then I don't pay much attention to it.

Jefferson Starship – Sara Lyrics 18 years ago
lol, this song...Psychadelic? The psychadelic era of this Airplane/Starship trio died with the seventies. They even coasted through the mellow era. Now it's the..."we can't write our own music", synthesized era. But hey, whose to say it isn't good anyway. This song was the reason I became a big starship fan. Beautifully written. I love it when the to Wolf's team up and write.

But people, come on. Seriously, how has no one ever mentioned that this isn't Jefferson Starship!?!?! Kantner went off the deep end and sued Mickey and the gang's asses for using his band name. Then they ditched "Jefferson" to have a very cruddy name.

Jefferson Starship – We Built This City Lyrics 18 years ago
I never was a big fan of the lyrics in this song, but the tune itself makes up for it. I'm not one to take out the booklet and scan over the lyrics until after listening to the tune. This song is an eighties classic. Although Starship was the weakest of the Airplane/Starship trio, they were uniquely great in their own way. Definitly one of the golden bands of the eighties.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics 18 years ago
Billy Corgan is amazing. I think it makes him just that much better of a human being and as a musical inspiration to me, as a songwriter, to take depressing and indescribable events of your life and instead of turning it into a hate, heavy metal song, he turned it into a beautiful rock composition. This song is every reason why I became a fan of Smashing Pumpkins, and have considered Billy Corgan a strong musical inspiration.

Whatever it was that happened to Billy, at least he recovered and made something of his life. Alot of people collapse and fade away. This guy became a successful artist. That makes a true human being. A survivor. One that creates believers out of others.

Tonic – Soldier's Daughter Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my favorite Tonic song. I never quite figured out the backstory, but I think the above comments captured my assumptions and ideas about it. It's a really good song. Emerson Hart is an awesome song writer.

Cyndi Lauper – Time After Time Lyrics 18 years ago
I learned this song on acoustic, listening to Rob Thomas' acoustic cover he played for his wife, Mari at a Matchbox Twenty concert. Both versions are excellent. Cyndi is an amazing artist.

Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is one of the most touching, depressing, but at the same time emotional songs I have ever listened to. Being a Johnny Cash fan, I already knew I'd love it. Then, this came and I was touched. The video struck me even more. This man was more than a songwriter. More than a guitarist. More than a singer. He was a legend. R.I.P. Johnny Cash.

Eve 6 – Here's To The Night Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my alltime favorite songs. It reminds me of how youth doesn't last forever. Even though I'm still young, there are times when I look back and wish I was living back when life was easier and was just more fun. A time rich on memories. But also a reminder that now isn't going to last forever, and time is slipping on faster than I'm realizing. Time to seize the moment.

Rob Thomas – When the heartache ends Lyrics 18 years ago
The first song Rob Thomas ever wrote in his career I didn't like. I thought this song was too much like the Backstreet Boys and it just wasn't Rob. It feels like a song that was just shoved in there to fill up an empty spot. Almost like filling a hole in a leaking ship with the nearest possible piece, whether it fits well or not.

Queen – Who Wants To Live Forever Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is every single reason you'll ever need that Rock N' Roll and Orchestras belong together. This song is simply amazing. It never gets old. One of my alltime favorites.

Rob Thomas – This Is How A Heart Breaks Lyrics 18 years ago
This is absolutely the best way to kick off the solo stint, with the most upbeat, rocking song of the CD. I loved this song since I first heard it. I had a clip recorded off a radio station prior to the CD's release, and I listened to it repeatidly. I finally bought the CD, and the "Repeat" button was killed. Awesome song.

Rob Thomas – Streetcorner Symphony Lyrics 18 years ago
Great song, but John Mayer was a joke. No offense to him, he's a decent guitarist. He's a talented musician. But I don't think he's a good songwriter. Thankfully, he didn't co-write. This song is great however. John didn't do half bad.

Rob Thomas – Something To Be Lyrics 18 years ago
I never really heard anything regarding the backstory, but to me it sounds almost as if Rob is attempting to discover himself as a songwriter. Throughout the CD which he titled after this song, he experiments with various different tunes that are unique and seperate itself from the one before. This song basically reflects that, on a small level.

Rob Thomas – Problem Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
This song got stuck in my head and is one I listened to over and over again when it was up for listen on VH1.com prior to the album's release. I remember Rob saying it originally wasn't going to be on the CD, but he ended up adding it. Mari also said she swears Rob wrote it for her before they even met. Whatever the story, it is a great song.

Rob Thomas – now comes the night Lyrics 18 years ago
Rob said on the DVD side of "...Something To Be" that it is about growing old and dying together, but it doesn't matter, because one will have the other forever. This song displays Rob's lyrical talent as well as his wonderful abilities behind the piano. He is a true mind at work. Only if the radio had more of this man...

Rob Thomas – My My My Lyrics 18 years ago
One of my favorites on the album, and another reason why Rob should do another solo gig...after Matchbox gets plenty of studio and tour time. Rob experimented with various areas on this record, including this, which slightly resembles that of a country song. It's a beautifully written song, and another Rt success.

Rob Thomas – Lonely No More Lyrics 18 years ago
This is song is very different from anything Rob has done previously. I loved the song at first listen and still do. The video was horribe and a disgrace to everything Rob has worked hard to create and strived to accomplish. The video deplicted Rob has a horrible, Justin-Timberlake like pop star. Rob is better than a pop star. He is a songwriting legend.

Rob Thomas – I Am an Illusion Lyrics 18 years ago
Robert Randolph on the lap steel. That was great. I wish they'd release Rob and Robert covering Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" at the Save The Music concert. They're an excellent pair, and this song proves it. Good writing, good sound.

Rob Thomas – Fallin' to Pieces Lyrics 18 years ago
Different sound for Rob. I really don't get how some people sound this is the closest to Matchbox Twenty that Rob got on his solo stint. It's not really close. But it is a good song. Change is good sometimes.

Rob Thomas – All That I am Lyrics 18 years ago
Rob wrote this song after seeing the Passion of the Christ. He said he's not an overly religious person, but the movie itself influenced him. Well, this is what we have. An amazing song with an excellent blend of various instruments.

Rob Thomas – Ever the Same Lyrics 18 years ago
The illness is some kind of rare immune system disease os some sort. I believe Mari is alright now, but I have to imagine it was a hard point for both Rob and Mari. Man, first Rob's mother gets sick and spawns a great song, then Rob's wife gets sick and spawns a great song. Poor Rob. But this is a beautiful song, and it gives hope that Rob could have more solo success. Maybe his softening isn't a bad thing?

Rob Thomas – A New York Christmas Lyrics 18 years ago
One of my favorite Christmas songs. Now I'm angry because Christmas is over, there goes a good song for another elevin months. Isn't this great? Christmas songs like this are just too wonderful to conceal all other elevin months of the year just to collect dust, only to be uncovered when the year's final month rolls around.

One of my all time favorites and my very first Collective Soul song. Beautiful and a song that I've become attached to. It's off a great CD. The writing that Ed and Ross did was great. Too bad Ross is gone...

Collective Soul – Crown Lyrics 18 years ago
I remember hearing a while back this was written for Ed and Dean's father. It makes sense. I want to see a clip of CS playing it in Atlanta in dedication to Ed and Dean's father. I heard that a picture of their father was displayed on a screen in the background as they played. That would be the most amazing performance anyone could do. Perform a beautiful song in tribute to their father. Amazing.

Collective Soul – Bleed Lyrics 18 years ago
The guitar is amazing here. I'm trying to learn it myself. I never figured out the story, besides the idea it was about a suicidal woman. It's coming clear by reading the comments above. Great song. Great CD.

Tabitha's Secret – Dear Joan Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard several different things about the backstory to this song. I've heard that it was about a girl Rob wanted, but couldn't have. Either way, this is one of the most beautiful songs Rob has written. He did an awesome reworking on the Target Exclusive CD "Something More".

Tabitha's Secret – Forever December Lyrics 18 years ago
Very good song. Both versions are awesome. Can't pick a favorite, as they're both unique in their own wonderful tune. Another example of Rob's lost past being one of the most amazing points in his musical career.

Tabitha's Secret – And Around Lyrics 18 years ago
This song always sounded like relationship confusion or relationship trouble to me. It always made things sound like an unstabble relationship ready to collapse. Loss of hope maybe? Great song though.

Matchbox Twenty – Could I Be You Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is every single reason why Paul should definitly write more and Rob needs to take a break. Rob is getting softer. Paul is right on key. His solo work is amazing. I always liked this song, but never could figure out the backstory. That's good songwriting I guess. Something everybody can relate to.
