Anyone else think this song is Chris's declaration of becoming a Christian? Besides all the religious references stated by TraptNCashN, the theme seems to be woven throughout the entire song. When you become a Christian, you have to give up all your bad habits and material idols; hence: The things that I’ve loved the things that I’ve lost, The things I’ve held sacred that I’ve dropped, I won’t lie no more you can bet, I don’t want to learn what I’ll need to forget. Rather than the first verse being "random," like some people have suggested, I think he just wants to forget his past (the time when he was lost and without Christ), so he goes somewhere completely new to him (Japan) and does things that don't remind him of anything. I think he's looking toward the future with Christ and forgetting the past. Of course, if you listened to some of his other songs, this theory could be completely disproven. Oh well. |
