Sufjan Stevens – Enchanting Ghost Lyrics | 6 years ago |
@[ezplateau:24238] Sufjan does have the lyrics on his own web site: http://music.sufjan.com/track/enchanting-ghost and it has "Am I pest to feed?" |
Sufjan Stevens – Enchanting Ghost Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Love this song. I think it speaks so well of the struggle to come to terms with the end of a relationship. The back and forth of accepting and then still not wanting the other person to go, of admitting that you are bad for them and that they should leave, but then wanting to selfishly continue the relationship anyway. After listening many times over the years, I was thinking about the odd line "Stay with me until I sleep within your host" and then I wondered if that ties together with "Am I a pest to feed?" Is the narrator thinking that his impulse to falsely continue the relationship maks him a parasite? (feeding on the host) |
World Party – Is It Like Today? Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Love this song. Usernick has it when he mentions "A History Of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell. Great melody and great lyrics. Speaking of lyrics... First chorus is messed up, it uses "I" instead of "we". It should be: He said How could it come to this? I'm really worried about living How could it come to this? Yeah, I really wanna know about this Second verse is missing: Is it like today? Uh, uh-uh Then there came a day, moved Out cross the Mediterranean Came to rest on isles and the Greek young men And with their silver beards they laughed At the unknown of the universe They could just sit and guess God's name |
Colin Stetson – Fear of the Unknown and the Blazing Sun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Love this song. I think some words might be off in the listed lyrics. In the first verse, I think she says "that we guard beyond all the others" It's definitely not "loved" as she says in the second verse. You can hear that she stresses "loved" in the second verse as if she is saying something different. In the 4th verse I think it's "And dogs travel back and forth between the rocks" I think "So tell your secrets to parents" should be "So tell your secrets to parrots", much more Laurie Anderson-y. Also, "And puffs of air" is I think "Blown on puffs of air" In all, the lyrics seem to be about ghosts and connecting to the feelings of those "on the other side". |
Eurythmics – For The Love Of Big Brother Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Thank you for adding the correct lyrics. One of my favorites too, haunting. |
Hot Chip – Flutes Lyrics | 10 years ago |
And then I left out a letter in my own correction! Fourth verse: Only to discover our names |
Hot Chip – Flutes Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Great song. A few spots where I think these lyrics listed are off... Second verse: And if there is one thing more And nothing more that I say There's never been a better day Third verse: I pulled a plug string today Deciding never taught me a thing A wooden box breathes the way Fourth verse: All this talk is getting me down Nothing's making sense in my brain I'm moving words across the terrain Trying hard to fix to the page I'm wedded to the thought that we came Only to discover our name And blow a horn of love in refrain |
Elvis Costello – Accidents Will Happen Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Unfortunately, the lyrics that come up for the just plain "Elvis Costello - Accidents Will Happen" (currently this page http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/77696/ ) are slightly wrong in several places. For the correct lyrics to the most common album version of the song, see either of the two entries labeled "Accidents Will Happen [DVD]" (currently http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107859256512/ and http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107859256484/ ) |
Django Django – Hail Bop Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Good song. It would appear to be about comet Hale-Bopp that passed the earth in 1997. The image of a comet always makes for a poetic metaphor for a love that shines brightly and then is gone, not to return again for a very long time. (see Kohoutek by R.E.M., for example) |
Tracy Chapman – Tell It Like It Is Lyrics | 11 years ago |
5th stanza, first line, last word should be "heart" instead of "hear" |
Janelle Monáe – Cold War Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Love this song... but in the lyrics here, all the "what your fighting for" lines need to be changed to "what you're fighting for" |
The King Khan & BBQ Show – Get Down Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's "Baby, can't you see all this misery?" and instead of "down when you're giving my head" it's "down when you're giving me hell" |
Bon Iver – Brackett, WI Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Really like this song. In the live versions, the third line of the chorus is sung as "and if you go" with no other sounds after the vowel sound in "go". In the recorded version, both times you can hear the sound like "opinion", but you can also hear the consonant "g", so I don't think it's quite right to have "and if you want opinion" but unfortunately I don't have any better ideas. Also, in the line "and every summer is a hot token", the words are slurred enough that it could be either "hot token" or "heart talkin'" and I feel like the latter makes more sense in context with the other lyrics. (not to mention the heartbeat drum rhythm) Are there any official lyrics published for this? |
The Notwist – Good Lies Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I really like this song. I know the lyrics are "remember the good lies when", but as he repeats it in the chorus, it begins to sounds like something more cynical, "remember the good lies win"... I wonder if that's intentional. |
St. Vincent – The Strangers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think third to last verse should be: Good souls have won better sons Better sons won worse ones |
TV on the Radio – Dancing Choose Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The part before the first chorus reminds me of "Rock Island" - the opening song from "The Music Man" musical. |
Alabama 3 – Woke Up This Morning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
There must be different versions of this song... the copy I have is entirely first person, "I woke up this morning", "Mama always said I'd be..." instead of second person "you woke up this morning" - how does that change the meaning? |
The Decemberists – We Both Go Down Together Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In his concert on 1/28/06 (available online from the NPR live concert series), Colin introduces this as "a song about a joint suicide" |
Tiger Trap – supreme nothing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't know why, but I just love this song! Not sure about some of these lyrics listed, tho. I'm thinking the first verse is: I'm tired of the things I hear, "you're so bad at what I do" Lamest thing about it is, I don't hear that from you I kept on trying to recapture your attention I'd accept the moment you somehow forgot to mention But with the first line, I have one verson of the song that sounds more like '...things I hear, "so bad at...' and one verson that sounds more like '...things I hear, "you're bad at...' |
The Psychedelic Furs – Pretty in Pink Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I thought I heard that "in pink" meant "in the nude" ... FWIW |
