As far as I know, this song is about Edie Sedgwick, who was very rich and apparently very generous with her money. She 'went to the finest school', but then decided she wanted to be a model and ended up with the warhol crowd at the factory. She and warhol were inseperable for about a year, and had the same hairstyles and everything, but drugs ruined her life. Bob dylan always felt that warhol was responsible for this, and he is the diplomat on a chrome horse. This really upset poor andy, who liked dylan, and even gave him a 'silver elvis' print, which dylan apparently used as a dartboard and then traded for a sofa! |

hmm, I'm willing to accept that this is about Marc Bolan, as he is gorgeousness multiplied, and definitely deserves the title of lady stardust. but i can't help this song also reminding me of lou reed (my other passion...) and the velvet underground, especially the 'femme fatales' part, and 'the band was all together'. and 'oh how i sighed, when they asked if i knew his name'... lou and david had a very close relationship, and bowie is pretty much responsible for getting lou into the mainstream.

Bowie came up with the music to this before the lyrics... he wrote it while he was touring america, and says it's a 'mish-mash of imagined americana'. He was hanging out with Cyrinda Foxe at the time, and she's in the video (check it out, she's hot!). She was one of Warhol's favourite girls at the time... kind of an 'it-girl', and apparently loads of fun to be with.
I love how he sounds in this, especially when he says: 'poor little greenie...' so hot!
... but i'm pretty sure the line is: 'New York's a go-go and everything tastes nice' |

I adore Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground, but this is the crappest song on a less than decent album... seriously, whether it's ironic or not (and I pray god it is) the whole 'paa paaa paa' thing is dreadful and his little chatty bit in the middle makes me cringe with embarrassment! oh Lou! Why? WHY?! |

Have to say, the one on the WL/WH album is probably the weakest, it's just so much better live! I kinda like the David Bowie one, especially the line: 'White Light make me sing like Lou Reed/ White light gonna fulfil my EVERY need!' |

this is on the White Light/White heat album (but you knew that already), and comes in immediatly after 'here she comes now', which is really slow and chilled out. in that song it sounds like he's trying to get a gurl to come, and in this one it suddenly screams: here she comes now now

This song is great, I especially love the 'fly fly away' parts at the end. That's something I've noticed Lou does a lot at the end of his songs-- he sort of puts in a different chorus which is really catchy and gets you singing hours afterwards. |

I don't think he sounds bored at all! I think he sounds sort of sleepy; like he's just woken up and he's lying about in bed watching this person (not sure if it's a boy or girl) get dressed and put their make up on. He sounds really affectionate and chilled out, but not neccessarily in love.... |
