Okkervil River – Okkervil River Song Lyrics
| 13 years ago
|
He's talking retrospectively about a private place (by the river) where he grew up and had lots of coming-of-age ("where gods were born and gods lay down to die") moments with a girl ("'leave your hand inside my pocket' you whispered in my ear"). At the end, he grew up and they went their separate ways and he's reminiscing, rather wistfully it seems. Innocence lost.
What a fantastic song. |

Slayer – Divine Intervention Lyrics

Unlike most of the rest of this album, I think the production values on this song suit it well. It's always sounded to me like he's trying to scream over this ever present noise, like he's in hell or something. Best song on the album for sure, and one of Slayer's best tracks I believe. |

Too bad Beck went downhill after Mellow Gold, Stereopathetic Soul Manure, and One Foot In The Grave.
This song is awesome. |

Mazzy Star – Look On Down From The Bridge Lyrics

Hope Sandoval has absolutely the most beautiful voice of anyone, ever. I hate that I never got to see Mazzy Star in concert.
This song is the highlight of "Among My Swan", I think.
Like any great song, the lyrics are quite vague - is she talking literally or figuratively? I don't know... Hell, I don't care. This song is beautiful. If you don't have every album that Mazzy Star released, shame on you. |

Violent Femmes – Johnny Lyrics

Pretty straightforward song about death, and the loss of a friend, and the natural curiousity that people have about the unknown. I like the really manic sounding ending. Nice. |
