To be honest I don't even think the writer knew much about what this song was about, Lennon got kicks out of people trying to figure his lyrics out (from what i've read elsewhere) so he would sometimes just write songs jam-packed with nonsense, take 'I Am The Walrus' for example. It's ironic that this song is even on SongMeanings seeing as it has no meaning (in my opinion). |

Drug addiction? Where does it say anything about drugs? I'm not saying you're wrong, i'm just saying I see no mention of drugs, literally or metaphorically.
Seems to me that he's just in love with this girl who is perfect for him, she's exiting and constantly full of suprise, hence her 'deuces' being wild. I may be wrong to, I was confused for a long time with the line 'Deuces are wild'. I'm really just settling on the theory i cam up with that fits it most... I'm not satisfied though - which is what this site is for. Would be great if more people posted their opinions on this great track though. |

Simple message really, not as filthy as it may first appear. Seems to me like its all about the complete lack of morals that current generations seem to have. Nobody believes in anything, they have their own religions. Marriage isn't an option anymore, war is everywhere, and drugs and alcohol are readily available to anybody who wants in. |

Lol, it's blatantly about sex, I think it's just about sex with an Indian woman. Although he just uses her for the sex, hence 'concubine', and 'Just looking for a little taste'

fantastic song, haven't read all the comments (way too many for me to get through) but from what I've read, there are several people (sunny22au comes to mind) who have queried the need to find out or debate what the song means. But that's what the forum is for, if it were just for people to say "Song rocks! The Led Rule!" then it would become boring, fast. Just thought i'd comment on that before getting on with my extremely brief analysis of the song.
There are far too many theories on this song, how it was written, where it was written, what it means and if they meant it to say anything backwards. There are so many theories that nobody could ever be sure of the validity of any one. But personally I believe that it would have been impossible to come up with such amazing lyrics, AND get them to say something backwards as well! To me it must have been a fluke, but its interesting to look into other theories as well. I don't think it's bout LOTR at all. Doesn't mention orcs once. |

Great cover, only problem with it is the lyrical mistake Bono makes, "You ain't no lover but you ain't no dancer". This must have been a mistake, if he had intended tp change the lyrics, surely he would have taken the word 'bu't out, and replaced it with 'and'. Nonetheless, great cover. Haven't heard the Hendrix version, didn't know there was one until now. I'll check it out. |

Queen? Huh, I must listen to this song more, i don't get Queen at all. I get a lot of T-Rex out of Louis Xiv (listen to Paper Doll, there's a nice little T-Rex reference in there), and there was a Bowie comment earlier and I can hear that too. But Queen?
I personally think this is one of the poorer songs on the album. I seem to favour Pledge Of Allegiance and Paper Doll a lot more. Great album though. I can see Louis Xiv doing well. |

Good song, not my favourite - to me, although Aerosmith performed it, it will never be an Aerosmith song. It isn't really there style. Don't rely on what I'm about to say, I just pulled it out from the back of my head somewhere. But I THINK that U2 were originally asked to perform this song for the movie (my opinion is that they could have possibly made a better job of it as Aerosmith are more about the sex really) and they turned it down. The idea for Aerosmith performing it only came after Liv Tyler was casted. (Obviously the link is there as Steven Tyler is her father - [duh!].) |

Absolutely hated Aerosmiths cover when I first heard it. I thought it was terrible. I was such a big Beatles fan at the time and had heard so little Aerosmith that hearing this almost turned me off Aerosmith. Aerosmith are now my favourite band and I think there version is an excellent interpretation.
It's true that the song will always have more meaning to the original songwriter, but that doesn't mean Aerosmith can't cover it and have their own interpretation. Often a song can have several different meanings anyway, without the writer even realising.
To me, this song (both versions) is about a threesome, the confused lyrics seem to represent the confusion of the situation, (Who's leg is this??? :p). OR - It could just be John trying to confuse his listeners again!!! Whatever the meaning may be we will never know, but it's a great song, and I love both versions! |

This song is great, one of the classic Aerosmith songs and one of my personal favourites.
Tyler is an amazing lyricist and therefore I forgive him for settling on the rhyme, "Pink...when I turn out the light

Aerosmith may be a rock band, but there is no doubt in my mind that this is a rap. A very clever and well written rap (as opposed to perhaps 50Cent or Eminem), but a rap nonetheless. I don't agree with anybody who says this is the best Aerosmith song, and certainly not by far. It is an amazing song, and is certainly a classic... and yes it probably is the most popular Aerosmith song (besides "Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" perhaps... but in my books, if Tyler didn't write it, it isn't Aerosmith.) but to me it just isn't classic Aerosmith.
Nonetheless, fantastic song. Aerosmith are legends. |

I'd like to be different and backup Eminem on this one... but I hate him. So what? He can talk fast and make up rhymes. C.rap. Aerosmiths guitarist Joe Perry apparently worked with Eminem to come up with some new and original solo's for his version.
It horrifies me to even think that some of the more ineducated (perhaps more chavvy?) people will actually believe Eminem wrote this entire song. As far as I've seen, they can't seem to grasp that all Eminem actually does is talk as fast as he can over classic songs and sell them off as his own. Oh yeah, and he's a rascist, homophobe, sexist b4stard as well. I almost forgot to mention that. |
