I LOVE this song! And I've heard by many that Lauren Hill was in love with Bob Marley… so to me this song is about him. She saw him perform live and this song could be about her first experience in seeing him perform, perhaps? I heard he sang a good song I heard he had a style And so I came to see him To listen for a while And there he was this young boy A stranger to my eyes Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song She was able to relate to the songs he was singing. He spoke of things she did not want to remember. It hurts her to hear those words; hence it was killing her softly… I felt all flushed with fever Embarrassed by the crowd I felt he found my letters And read each one out loud I prayed that he would finish But he just kept right on He sang as if he knew me In all my dark despair And then he looked right through me As if I wasn't there But he was there, this stranger Singing clear and strong She felt as if though those words were being directed to her…. So she felt embarrassed. It was as he had found the “letters” where she expresses her pain, and it felt as if though he had “found my letters And read each one out loud” she felt he was singing about her, to her, but he looked past her… she was just an audience member. Although she wasn’t real to him, he was real to her and he was singing ‘clear and strong,’ her life. I hope this made sense! Haha this is what I got from it after really listening to it... = ) |
