Sufjan Stevens – The Seer's Tower Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It's a play on words. He's very religious and the Sears Tower is also the Seers Tower. He just twists the imagery of it. I agree that it can also be construed as the Tower of Babel. |
Say Anything – Skinny, Mean Man (feat. Pete Yorn) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Okay, first of all. I don't know what you guys are talking about. I love the intro! It's totally say anything! That kind of over the top dramatics that Max adds for a cheesy but totally effective touch. And Pete Yorn at the end is amazing. He did a great job of picking the perfect people for each track. And I have two theories about what this song could mean. 1) It really is a metaphor for a girl that Max loves who is with a person she shoudn't be with. He prays on her insecurities and makes her feel like she has no other choice than to be with him and he uses her (especially for sex as it seems in some parts, the on your knees part and i think i smell what he did to you girl). The girl is metaphorically dead inside. She doesn't have the self-confidence or the life in her anymore. Max wants her to come back to life, and be who she used to be before the skinny mean man. And he does when he convinces her to leave the man. That's when she lives again. He's digging for her, or trying to convince her that her boyfriend is a dick. He says she's "filled with fire and finally mine" meaning she's finally alive again and part of him is responsible for that. She's alive and in love with him. The second is 2) Somebody mentioned earlier it being a metaphor for the scene being dead. And I agree with that, I hate calling it the scene but the music industry or "the genre". He's saying that it's dead and he wants to bring it back to life, or give something back to the genre. I think this makes sense because it's the first song on the album and he's saying he's digging and trying to wake her up or making an album that hopefully will make a difference and change something. The skinny mean man is a metaphor for the mean record industry, taking advantage of artists and signing no-talent performers for reasons other than music. I think this is a great lead-in to the album and really amazing. I didn't care for it at first but it's really grown on me. and it's probably just about a girl because he said "love is eventually what's going to save the world, therefore it's always something worth singing about." |
Motion City Soundtrack – Antonia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i don't think justin wrote this one. one of the other band members (who i can't remember) got married awhile ago and i'm pretty positive that he wrote this. justin's not married as far as i know? |
Motion City Soundtrack – Last Night Lyrics | 16 years ago |
no it's amen. but awesome song. and i could have sworn this song was produced by robert smith because it sounds EXACTLY like the keyboards on close to me. it's ridiculous how close it sounds. |
Coheed and Cambria – Devil in Jersey City Lyrics | 17 years ago |
alright. so i hate the emo thing. who cares. that's not what this site is about. take that shit elsewhere. so far what i've gotten from this song is that patrick and josephine go to new jersey (which i'm confused because they have a new jersey in this sci fi world? i'm kind of confused about that whole arrangement of the planets and what not). so they go to new jersey, a gang attacks patrick and josephine and then rapes her and afterwards they go back home. but i'm also confused about how you guys know that patrick was her fiance. i don't see any references that would indicate that. |
Garbage – Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I know what book you're talking about but I don't. The one I know is The Heart is Deceitful above all things in which the little boy adopts his prostitute mother's sex after a long time confusion in what is right and wrong. |
Say Anything – Admit It!!! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oh and the green day quote? It says 'No, that's trendy.' Not conformist. My bad. |
Say Anything – Admit It!!! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I hate saying it that way, but Max did go crazy. He's bipolar and did get admitted to a mental hospital, by himself of by someone else, I don't really remember. I'll have to dig up that article. And if Max admits to going to a mental hospital, then I'd say it's a good indication that he's telling the truth. AP does lie, or stretch the truth sometimes, but they can't fabricate quotes and that story was pretty much Max talking. As for the song, I think it's pretty neat. There's a quote by Green Day (kind of ironic considering how people see them as such posers now) that said something along the lines of "This kid came up to me once and asked 'What's punk?' So I kicked over a trash can and said 'That's punk.' So he kicked over another trash can and asked 'That's punk?' And I said 'No, that's conformist.'" There is no such thing as a truly individual style. We are all fabricated clones of other fabricated clones of other fabricated clones and the sooner you realize that your way is not the only way, the better we'll all be. When you can admit to being just as self-absorbed, arrogant and fake as everyone else around you, then you're a punk. When you realize that there is no such thing as being a punk, that's when you're a punk. This song is not about the emo kids. It's about us. It's about each of us that came on here and told everyone how everyone else is so fake and wrong. It's about me, who still in the back of my head realizes that I'm no better than anyone he's singing about in that song. It's about him, it's about you, and it's about everyone. You're no better than anyone else out there. |
Cartel – The Minstrel's Prayer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
a minstrel doesn't have to be an entertainer of the middle ages, that's what it originally was. more commonly it's just a musician, or a poet. it's a shoutout to all those boys who have tried to write a song for their girls and can't put it into words. i think it's almost like a prayer. for one, i think it says "to will her wings" and he's asking for the right words to show how angelic this girl is, and to show the world and the girl how amazing she really is. my boyfriend wrote a song for me and i told him i didn't have enough talent to write him a song, but if i could it would go something like this one. i told him that he had already gotten the girl because he'd found the right words to say. overall, it just makes me want to dance, but not a normal dance. more like move. it makes me want to move. |
Say Anything – Joel On Other Planets Lyrics | 17 years ago |
it's about the thought that we're the only people anywhere in this entire universe who have love. just imagine that this world, is the only world that gives us these unimaginable feelings of love, and how we're destroying humanity and what will we do once we've screwed up everything else? he's basically saying, he hopes something out there has these same emotions because it's too great of an emotion to not have. |
Sunny Day Real Estate – Song About An Angel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
didn't sdre's lead singer become a born again christian? this just seems kind of fortelling of the situation. |
Nada Surf – Popular Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's about people who think they are better then others for some weird reason. Which is EVERYONE! everyone including everyone even commenting on this song. i think this song is one of two things. the first idea is that they are making fun of, not the popular kids, but YOU. you, who go around saying you're so much better than the rest of the "popular kids" while you're sitting back and pouting that you aren't the one with the cool car and the football boyfriend. obviously, if you all are so self-absorbed bashing on the popular kids when really you guys are the unhappy ones, you tell me what this song is about. it's a joke about all of the high school social scene where everyone can be categorized into stereotypes including you, not just the goddamn popular kids. Get over yourself. and in case the first idea isn't true, then i'm left with one other option. THIS SONG IS ABSOULTE BULLSHIT. honestly. if they mean anything they're singing in here, they should be slapped across the face for saying such ridiculous shit. listen to say anything - admit it. that one's for you. |
Home Grown – Barbie girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
no. it's the guys. |
The Hush Sound – Sweet Tangerine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's got a real big sense of voyeurism in this song. Now, voyeurism vs. stalking are two different yet somewhat similar concepts so. It's a sense of 'if i can't have you to myself, then i'll be okay with just watching and dreaming'. |
Hellogoodbye – Here (In Your Arms) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is a really cute song. Pretty self-explainatory but it sounds AMAZING in my car. All of their songs do, actually, but this one really just makes you want to dance when you hear it pumping through the speakers. |
Hellogoodbye – All of Your Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is pretty self-explainatory. A boy and a girl separated by distance and are getting kind of suffocated by all the pressure and loneliness it's creating. The girl is getting tired of it and is ready to make a break for it and the boy is trying to get her to just understand and make her want to be with him still. |
Maria Mena – You're the Only One Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i would take the scar to be scars of suicide attempts? thats the only thing i can think of that would make someone uncomfortable. |
Quietdrive – Rush Together Lyrics | 18 years ago |
When they were at the concert, they were actually saying something about how this song is about how the age differences are so weird. Like when you're 30 and you fall for someone who's 25 and you could've grown up in the same town but in fifth grade, they would've still been in kindergarten. i think that's what they said at least lol. |
The Summer Obsession – Deeper Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Take my shoulder to cry This is deeper and we're all family here Take my hand and don't ask why There's a spirit and it's passing by Don't you ever worry.... I'll tell you a story about danger that we can't forget It's starts with an F, it gets stranger and it ends in ears And the same old thing keeps haunting you forever When you change the frame the next scene gets better Take my shoulder to cry It gets deeper... It gets deeper... Forever... Don't you ever worry here All there is to fear is fear Don't you ever worry... This is deeper, this is family This is deeper, this is family Don't you ever worry here All there is to fear is fear Forever... those are the right lyrics, straight off of purevolume. |
Jack's Mannequin – Meet Me At My Window Lyrics | 18 years ago |
someone coming to save you when you're lost confused and hurt. i think it's kind of an oppositte of i want to save you. it's basically, 'i need you to save me too'. i'm required to love it. andrew can't make a song that i don't love. |
Motion City Soundtrack – Time Turned Fragile Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it makes so much sense that it would be about him from his father's perspective. tiny hands, recycled cans and metal bands i could not stand the time you cried and threw your crayons across the floor *he's going through memories of him. from when he was really little and had tiny hands, and then recycled cans, maybe a phase? and then metal bands as he became a teenager. the crayons part about how when he was little he cried and threw his crayons across the floor. duh. these are the things i think about when i'm alone without you i wonder of your whereabouts and hope like hell you're happy where you are *he's saying that now that's justin's gone and grown up, he thinks about him all the time and wodners where he is and how he's doing, and wishes the best for him you used to say that you're just fine but i still wonder all the time *he's saying he knows all the songs and everything that justin has written about him being fine and him always telling him that, but he still worries that he's really not. any parent would. hockey games, medical claims police reports, terrible grades but jay i'm so proud of all the things that you have done. *he's saying, he remembers all the problems his song has had, the police incidents, the bad grades, things that would make him cringe, but he wants him to know that he's still proud of his son no matter what. these are the things i think about when i'm alone without you i wonder of your whearabout and hope like hell you're happy where you are *same thing i'm all right i'm all right but i can see through everything you said and all the lessons i never learned *he's saying he knows his mistakes, and knows that his son will ultimately make the same ones, and that he's really not okay. he knows that his son will have problems and it sounds like the "i'm alright, i'm alirhgt" part is almost justin telling his father that he's fine and his father is saying, i can see through everything you say and all the lessons i never learned. do you believe in the stories told to you by my friends and i when you were four years old how it got so cold, our words just froze we had to wait till summer to find out what was said one of the best times that we had. *he's reminiscing about it, just remembering stories he's told his son. |
Augustana – Wasteland Lyrics | 18 years ago |
♥ |
Augustana – Boston Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i love the line "you don't know me and you don't wear my chains" it's a line that's really full of anger and resentment but it's sung so beautifully that it gives it a whole new meaning. |
Augustana – Hotel Roosevelt Lyrics | 18 years ago |
sometimes i listen to songs and think they're not really about a specific thing or problem or person, but moreso a feeling. it's like singing about rain and having the song be about sadness. Like a poem giving insight into what the author feels like. i think that's what this song is about, just despondency and giving up. |
Augustana – Stars and Boulevards Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wait, dear White horses walking down my street here Your words are creeping at my feet I fear The sunrise will come too soon And you’ll disappear To the haze of the city and yourself Oh yeah *I think this part is about probably a night with a lover. He's saying how perfect things are with the white horses, And he knows that as soon as the sun rises, she'll be out the door. It makes me think that maybe it's about a past relationship that was ended but they got back together for kind of a just one last fling.* Look out They’re coming after us with big guns They’re only gonna tell you all the bad things I’ve done Even if the words they say aren’t true, They’ve won Now I’m left here dying in the sun * He knows she's going to leave because people have been saying what he's been supposedly doing. They've probably been telling this girl about how he's been cheating on her, which may or may not be true, but because she doesn't trust him, it doesn't even matter. She believes them and he knows that in the end he'll be left alone. * Woahhhhh… Seems like I’m always on my own Seems like I’m never coming home Seems like I’m always on my own All the stars and boulevards aren’t close enough to you |
Sugarcult – Bouncing Off The Walls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
When Tim Pagnotta (lead singer) was in college, there was a group of lesbians living in a dorm room down the hall from him. They called themselves Sugarcult, and the name stuck for Tim's band. |
Sugarcult – Bouncing Off The Walls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
""Mommy and daddy's got the best cocaine Ritalin's never gonna feel the same twenty four hours on an empty brain I got my finger on the trigger and you're in my way" *ritalin is a drug to help you calm down, so it won't feel the same as an upper like cocaine. he was sober for 24 hours, and is going insane without the drug in his system, so he is going to do something irrational to get it*" somebody else said this and i just wanted to point out that ritalin is actually a stimulant for people who don't really have ADD. For those with ADD, it relaxes them, but for most others, it does exactly what ADD would do to the body. i can't believe some of your interpretations on here. the song is about cocaine, not about a girl who led him to it, not about ritalin or other drugs, ITS ABOUT COCAINE. it's written in a form so it sounds like he's talking to a girl. but he's just talking about good old cocaine. and the name sugarcult is from their lesbian neighbors in an apartment they had once. i'll try to find the right answer. |
Something Corporate – When It Goes Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
these lyrics are semi-wrong just little details When it all just fits No more waiting up til midnight to see if he comes home when it sinks in through these holes in your bedsheets you might spend your life alone and you don't wanna be alone no not alone and you think too much and you came to another game, despondent, out of touch when you reach so hard it makes you fall but these hands that let you go they shouldn't let you go at all they shouldn't let you go at all no, not at all i don't know what it's like to be you baby but from the looks i don't think i want to and i know i've been hanging on tight so maybe it just might mean i want you yeah babe, i want you you know what i mean when i say that i come from a place that hurts you fit in my scene try to make everything work you watch me turn green i come down, yeah but i might never land you said you'd understand but you don't wanna be there when it goes down again staring at this ceiling gives me another feeling about who you are you know i was really thinking i could be another lincoln if i got this far, if i got this far driving in my car and then I started holding on to things I couldn't keep and the wiseass called me faggot but i feel more like a creep and these things creep i watch them creep and i don't get no sleep i don't know what it's like to take it slow but from the feel, i don't think i want to no i don't want to. and i now know i know that it seems i'm letting go but the things i know i know would haunt you and i don't want to haunt you you know what i mean when i say that i come from a place that hurts you fit in my scene try to make everything work you watch me turn green i come down yeah but i might never land you said you'd understand but you don't wanna be there when it goes down again you know what i mean when i say that i come from a place that hurts you fit in my scene try to make everything work you watch me turn green i come down yeah but i might never land you said you'd understand but you don't wanna be there you don't wanna be there you don't wanna be there when it goes down again when it goes down again. despondent, out of touch, that's exactly what this song is. it's about giving up hope on everything you once had hope in. even that one person you feel understands you is saying, i can't handle this. i won't be here the next time you break down. you're gonna be alone for the rest of your life. i take the "the wiseass called me faggot, but i feel more like a creep" as bullying. the word game is used so maybe it's a highschool kind of weariness. bullying at school, nobody there to catch you when you fall, nothing to hope for anymore. what confuses me most is the way andrew switches from the forms of you and me. he sings from two points of view about each person which is confusing. but i absoulutely love it. i think htis is my favorite soco song. amazing. |
Something Corporate – Konstantine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Let's bow down before the retarded ballad that is... Konstantine... Let us bitch and moan about how this retard lost the girl he loved in a tragic farming accident. It's so fucking sad let's dedicate nine whole minutes of our lives to the rememberance of a chick that nobody else remembers in real life except like three people. Let's bow down and suck the cock of Something Corporate because we can and let their jizz burn through the lining of our collective stomach. Let's do that, let's be their corporate, sick, sad, suicidal groupie bitches. Yeah, let's praise Konstantine because she died and true love conquers all. Bullshit it does. what the fuck are you talking about? she didn't die. it's about krystal, which thus is the confusion with a k and the spelling of konstantine which is usually constantine because krystal is usually spelled like crystal. she was his kind of "first love" and it's about how he cheated on her while drunk at a party if i remember and how she found out and they tried to make things work.. andrew said he talked to her not too long ago when she heard about his leukemia. and as for the post before mine, know what you're talking about before you come here shitting on music that you don't give a damn about. that's not a song meaning. that's an opinion that is absoulte bullshit and keep it to yourself. |
Snow Patrol – Chasing Cars Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i'm sure you do.... too bad no one cares. |
Say Anything – Little Girls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i heard it was about him putting himself into the shoes of a serial killer. |
Cute Is What We Aim For – Listen To This If You Love Me And You Are Bored It's Just Me Singing Off The Top Of My Head Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hahaha. this is making me laugh so much. to the top of my eye.......game... lmao. |
Say Anything – Alive with the Glory Of Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
yeah that does make sense. i have to say that i do admire the guys for this, it almost sounds as if the relationship started out as a physical one and he found he was falling for her because by the end of the song he's offering death in exchange basically. i have to say that i think it really would take some amazing knowledge and songwriting skills to pull this off and do it "semi-respectfully". max bemis is amazing. |
Say Anything – Every Man Has His Molly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i like that last idea. i think it's an amazing song because on the most straightforward level, he's saying that he's giving up molly because he can't afford her because of the profession he's in. he's telling the kids at a concert that they should buy more merch because he can't buy molly anymore which insinuates that molly is a hooker. he's saying he's giving her up because he'd rather be singing for the kids. this is such an arrogant asshole song but max likes to slip in little sublities that show he's actually a nice guy. he kind of shows that he likes molly for more than the sex. every song makes me fall for max a little bit more, even though he's a complete asshole in most of the songs. but you just can't help it for someone who's this amazing and just... real. nothing stops him from speaking his mind. |
Say Anything – Total Revenge Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think the song is about a girl getting married to someone else (hence the bride to be part) and it just kills him that the girl he wants or maybe just thinks he wants is getting married. it drives him kind of crazy, so crazy that he needs a psychiatrist and mental help. i love say anything. max is amazing. |
Say Anything – I Want To Know Your Plans Lyrics | 18 years ago |
and also something about "and if you'll forget me next year. and when the jets go up and down will our hearts stay here" god this is a diff version. sorry guys haha. |
Say Anything – I Want To Know Your Plans Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i hear "when you leave for good this fall will i be forgiven" maybe it's a diff version. such an amazing song. |
Motion City Soundtrack – The Worst Part... Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i really hope i got these lyrics right. there's one part that i'm still not sure and it's that line all the days and nights days of having lots of lies so if anyone knows what the line is or if that's right, tell me. |
Jimmy Eat World – My Sundown Lyrics | 18 years ago |
by ebhiro on 04-24-2006 @ 05:32:31 PM It's official. This song is ambiguous enough that you're all able to apply it to your own personal lives. It's not necessarily a good thing. The song has enough emotion to be able to move everyone to this, but the author's point is garbled. The AA interpretation, the cutting and suicide interpretation, pretty funny to read. i agree. and i have to say that most jew songs are. it makes me wonder if they're incredibly talented writers or if they just know that if they make it irrelevent enough, more people will be able to relate to it and they can't get pinned for something they didn't really say. i take this song to be about suicide but that's mostly because that's what is happeneing in my life, i just relate to it. i love the line "with one hand high, you'll show them your progress" i always picture a boy standing out in a field all alone at night with one hand high looking up at the sky and talking to it, almost like he's telling god or whatever is out there in space what has been happening. it reminds me of an alienish thing. |
Motion City Soundtrack – The Sun Woke the Whole State (Limbeck cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
a limbeck cover? NO WAY. MOTION CITY AND LIMBECK!!!! it's amazing. i need to find it. |
We Are the Fury – Nation, Forgive Us Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's about the responsibilities that older generations place on younger teens and such while taking away our freedoms. They think we're going to be the end of the country, but in reality, they're the ones holding us back. |
Kelly Clarkson – Walk Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i like kelly clarkson. she seems strong and independent but not afraid to admit her flaws. it's nice to see in a girl, though yeah, seeing her trying to like belly dance was a bit disappointing. |
The Pussycat Dolls – Beep (feat. Will.I.Am) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i have to agree with everyone who says they hate this song. it's completely pointless and i think it's awful that the girls in this stupid group are willing to degrade themselves so much. any girl that looks up to them is going to end up fucking up their life, and it's not someone i would ever want as a role model. try looking for music with purpose in it and meaning. this is an awful show of music and we all wonder why the girls at highschools are prancing around with their asses hanging out of their mini skirts and their boobs hanging out of their ten times too small tube tops. |
Taking Back Sunday – Liar (It Takes One to Know One) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
goshhhh. don't you guys think they would have gotten over the stupid feud by now? not EVERY single one of their songs is about john nolan or brand new. i have a hard time believing they are THAT immature to hold a grudge for this freakin long. it's been like 2 albums now, why would they still be singing about it? i'm tired of the whole taking back sunday vs. brand new vs. john nolan theory. |
Jason Mraz – O. Lover Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is pretty much a straightforward song. i love how jason mixes things around so that o. lover can stand for so many things as in "oh lover" or o as in orgasm or as in the last verses opportunistic lover. amazing with the words. i wonder if he's talking about an underage girl. as he says about laws, or if it's more metaphorical laws as in the rules of conduct kind of thing. |
Jason Mraz – Plane Goes Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think some of the lyrics are wrong, like i don't think it's quilt. i think it's ground. it doesn't sound liek quilt at ALL. |
The Rocket Summer – Skies So Blue Lyrics | 18 years ago |
aww... that's really sad. but i love this song. it's really an amazing song. |
Morningwood – Nth Degree Lyrics | 18 years ago |
they're talking about the band. she's not in love with a guy, she's saying that the band is all she needs. they're a "family" and it's like family love. he bangs the drums - the drummer she's v.i.p. - the singer he's never done got OCD - the other guy in the band. our love is to the nth degree. the nth degree is a term as in love^n n is an exponent, she's just saying it's a lot of love. it's a simple song just talking about the band. |
Jason Mraz – Bella Luna Lyrics | 18 years ago |
you think it's about love? i think it's about a midnight romance, definitely, but bella luna, i believe is the moon. he wrote that other song on the other album about the sun, you're the brightest star and what not. i think this is just a juxtaposition. and balloona? it should be my beautiful, beautiful moon. how you swoon me like no other. |
Jason Mraz – Clockwatching Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i agree with InsomniacUK. his songs are meant to be multi-meaning. The song may mean sex, which I agree with, but i hardly think this is about premature ejaculation. if anything i would think it was about sneaking in a quickie with your other. he's saying, come on and just let's make the best of this moment now. i can relate to it because it's one of those songs that just talks you into something crazy. i love jason mraz and this song definitely does not disappoint. he seems like abit of a sex addict, eh? i like the pin on his first album that says i like sex. |
