Hayley Sales – What You Want Lyrics 16 years ago
Pretty self explanatory--your mentality and the choices that you make determine how old you are, not the calendar years you've lived through: "checking numbers isn't how to know how old you've grown; it's only what you want." The singer is instructing/encouraging us to live life more youthfully, and to enjoy it fully, instead of living aimlessly and not appreciating what's around us. "Stop and look at the sun, tell me what have you done today, that left you dreaming." She instructs us to not be overwhelmed by our responsibilities and obligations, especially those that have been forced on us by ourselves or others--"you're living life like you're dead and in over your head".

C'est ca! Anyways. I like this song, very chill. Hayley Sales is reminiscient of Jack Johnson (a female one, duh). Peaceee.

This song was featured in the House episode last week (October 31, 2006). It played near the end, as Foreman comforts the patient and House drives his motorcycle.

Beyoncé – Irreplaceable Lyrics 17 years ago
In all honesty, I hate most of her other songs. But the melody and some of the lyrics (not the meaning, but their catchiness/something) appeals to me. I like it, it seems very different from her other songs, but I haven't heard her new album (except for the other two singles, both of which I did not like).

Paris Hilton – Heartbeat Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, it sounds like "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper. And the "you will feel what's up ahead from my heart beat" part" reminds me of a Dance Dance Revolution song. Or at least, it sounds as if it belongs on that game. (The instruments, the lame lyrics).

I hate the backing electronic/synth instruments. I really don't like this song.

Paris Hilton – Fightin Over Me Lyrics 17 years ago
I remember when I was younger, and still thought rap was cool, and thought that Fat Joe was cool.

Thank goodness that's over.

I don't consider this to be a Paris Hilton, she's basically just singing the hook. This should be a Jadakiss song. Or a Fat Joe song. They're on it more than her.

Paris Hilton – Nothing in This World Lyrics 17 years ago
Honestly, I'm not a pop music fan, but I do appreciate catchy melodies. This song, as well as many other of Paris Hilton's songs, are catchy. The lyrics are badly written, shallow, lame, and a million other negative things, but the melody is catchy. I'll admit that.

For those asking for sheet music to Jack's Mannequin or Something Corporate songs, I've found a site that offers most of the songs (not the "official" sheet music, they were transcribed by the site owner) for free. They come in both .jpeg and Mozart types, and they also offer midi's and lyrics.

The 88 – All 'cause of You Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard this song in You, Me and Dupree, and not knowing the artist or title, I quickly took out my cell phone and text messaged myself the line "drain of love". ANYWAYS, after finding the song's information, I LOVE IT. (Off topic? YESSUM.)

The meaning of this song is pretty much clear: The guy (singer) found a girl he thinks he loves, but he's never been one to settle down or he's been a bit of a "bad boy", so others are warning the girl against him. Either way, he thinks he's been changed (for the better) by this girl, and he's telling her.

The Cribs – Martell Lyrics 18 years ago
I researched "Martell" (the word, not the song), and according to Wikipedia (real hard work, eh?), it is a leading manufacturer of Cognac. Is that of any significance to this song? One of the lines, "We cover insignificant miles for a miniature bottle", may refer to a miniature bottle of cognac? I have no idea =\

The Boy Least Likely To – Hugging My Grudge Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song, and here is my attempt to analyze it. Sorry for the unorganized way that I've approached this--I've tried to include quotes/lines from the song to direct my analysis (to make it easier to follow).

He is unable to settle down or be content with his life, so he "chases rainbows" and "stares out of classroom windows" (looking for other places to be, where he thinks that he will find contentment). But, despite his searching, he's never found it. However, he feels happiness while he searches ("happy hugging my grudge"-->accepting the unhappiness he's bound to have if he doesn't become content with what he's got).

He's found someone he loves (or maybe SOMETHING he loves), but is afraid of ruining it because of his inability to stop moving around and commit to her (or "it"):
"It scares me just to think
That something so beautiful
Could come apart in my hands"

Again, he's had the habit of looking for adventure/joy/fulfillment all of his life, going places on a whim ("I followed my heart everywhere"), but has never found what he was looking for.
Or, if he did, it took him back to this girl/thing that he's afraid of hurting or losing: "Until I ended up back; Where I started from".

That's it. The meaning of the song isn't too cryptic (in fact, it's actually straightforward). At least I hope, because if it isn't, I missed the complete meaning of the song and made an online-fool of myself..? Ha.

Tullycraft – Superboy and Supergirl Lyrics 18 years ago
At first, the way that the singer's voice went flat/out of tune at the end of certain lines REALLY irked me, however, I've come to really like this song. It's very endearing and innocent =) So cute. Very "twee".

I believe the singer could be literally "talking" to a superhero and superheroine, and is impressed by their powers, but at the same time, is sympathetic/pitying of their situation because of the pressures put on them by others. He recognizes that both the Superboy and Supergirl have their own personal issues, and that it's difficult for them to live as they do without support/appreciation from the world (who demand their help but don't appreciate them).

BUT, I don't think this song is meant to be taken completely literally, as it could also be understood as a metaphor for politicians/celebrities/others in the public eye that have immense pressure on them from society. (We, as a public, tend to put so much weight on our politicians/celebrities, and don't recognize their struggles and their problems).

Anyways, Tullycraft singer in the end, ("Please don't let them...only superheroes in our town"), tells them that they are in fact needed and important and to not be effected by the negativity generated by us, the society.

The Cribs – Martell Lyrics 18 years ago
I kind of love Telus for leading me to this song. And the parrot, I love the parrot too.

I could have sworn this was an older song, as it seemed so familiar to me when I first heard it in the commercial. But, it's similar to the style of music I generally like (Arctic Monkeys, Libertines, etc.)

Aaah. Love. The meaning of this song seems obvious, but I'm not sure of the significance of the name (Martell).

He went to a club, could not get in, got drunk, had some "deep" conversations that he can no longer understand, met a girl, made out with said girl, and, to top it all off, could not remember it clearly the next day.

PS I think the beginning of the song is wonderful. "One of em's alright, the other's the scary one- His way or no way, totalitarian". UGH. I LOVE the way he says it.

Imogen Heap – Speeding Cars Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song too much.
I think that it's about a parting/another sad moment, but instead of wallowing/brooding, she wants to just cherish the moment. The separation/pain that they are experiencing was inevitable ("textbook stuff"/"abc's of growing up") and so to complain/brood about it now is useless, and is not something that the singer wants to do.

I LOVE this song. I heard it on the OC, and recognized the voice of Frou Frou, googled the song/artist to death, to no avail, until I realized it was actually by Imogen Heap! Ha.

Lovedrug – Down Towards The Healing Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow. I must admit I heard this song originally on some MTV show about Ashley (from O-Town)--I'm not a watcher of the show, I just heard the song and liked it-- and I never realized how profound the lyrics actually were. I didn't really listen closely and just assumed that it was another "I love this girl, but I did something wrong and now it's over but I'm sorry" song.

Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is CLASS. He sees a girl he's interested in at a club, but she's not giving him much attention/she's acting aloof ("your shoulders are frozen"). BUT, he's still interested, and wants to dance with her (hence the title). There's no love between the two, ("no montagues or capulets") he just wants to dance and get (potentially) raunchy.

Pernice Brothers – There Goes the Sun Lyrics 18 years ago
Gorgeous song!

He loved someone, they didn't love him back-- he suffered and felt terrible/wrecked, but still he waits for [her] to improve his life (by loving him in return, i suppose). Until she comes around, he's given up and lives miserably--"there goes the sun" (no light in his life).

That's my take on it.

Pernice Brothers – Weakest Shade Of Blue Lyrics 18 years ago
When I worked at Old Navy, this song was on the store's soundtrack during the Christmas time, and I LOVED it. Recently, I was watching a rerun of the Gilmore Girls, and RORY WAS LISTENING TO IT. I pretty much felt awesome =)

About the meaning; unrecquitted love?
A tough-ish guy/someone who's unfamiliar with love/romance falls for a girl, but she, of course, is hesitant to be with him. Now, he's kind of "angry" with the emotions he's feeling because it's causing him pain ("it's ruinous and true")--since he's not used to feeling love, and the rejection that often comes with it. I think the weakest shade of blue just represents a terrible, glum feeling (i.e. feeling blue?=sad). He's sad and is trying to convince her that he can be a good partner/lover/whatever, ("i'll be tender until the day I die"); she's not buying.

Ze end.

Voltaire: (if you were referring to Gilmore Girls) yes, a lot of good music is featured on the show. sometimes it seems as just an attempt to prove that Lane/Rory are hip/musically-cool. also, they play a lot of franz ferdinand on the show--the played "jacqueline" during her packing from college.

Rihanna – SOS Lyrics 18 years ago

Rihanna – SOS Lyrics 18 years ago
Oh my GOSH. SOS stands for "save our souls". Originated from the morse codes used on ships? (when the ship was sinking/it was in dire trouble, they'd send out an SOS message, meaning that they were badly needing help). Anyways, I learned that from "Titanic"--so if it is erred, that's very likely.

I'm not an R&B/hiphop/rap or even pop fan, but this song got stuck in my head. Soft Cell's original (Tainted Love) is of course better, but this song is catchy.

The Shins – Kissing the Lipless Lyrics 18 years ago
"but you've got too much to wear on your sleeves
it has too much to do with me"
The girl being sung to is showing too much of her emotions regarding the singer (wearing her heart on her sleeves). She's hesitant to "let go" of them. But, in his point of view: they have too much of a history that he doesn't want to see or recognize anymore.

"and secretly
I want bury in the yard
the grey remains
of a friendship scarred"
Basically a continuation of the previous line--their relationship has been ruined. She seems to still want to remember it or cherish it (through memories/staying friends), but he wants to get over it.

Architecture in Helsinki – Need to Shout Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's showing how people only pay attention to people's problems after they've acted out severely--by hurting themselves or others, etc. They never really listen when people just talk, so, to get yourself help, sometimes it's necessary to shout.

People ignore their problems ("sword in your side...") until it's too late and they've allowed it to grow and worsen.

Architecture in Helsinki – Frenchy, I'm Faking Lyrics 18 years ago
Is "Frenchy, I'm faking" from Grease? It seems familiar to me (it seems as something Sandy said to Frenchy).

Eitherway, I agree-- "You let me down lightly, I killed you politely" is the BEST line, in almost any song, ever.

submissions
Architecture in Helsinki – Do the Whirlwind Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that "Doing the Whirlwind", as killedpolitely has said, means just getting through problems--carrying on with hope, don't abandon, get a handle on yourself, etc. It means keeping control when under pressure or when everyone has given up on you (parents say you should live alone on a mountain top).

Basically, I think that a guy (from the "don't give up on yourself SON") is causing trouble for himself and family (drugs, etc) his family have lost hope and just want to be rid of him, but this girl has faith that he is still capable of change. She knows that he is affected by their words/advice ("he quivers when he hears your song"), and so she advises him to not give up and to continue through his problems and to maintain his hope in achieving something/becoming someone.

KT Tunstall – Under The Weather Lyrics 18 years ago
Unbelievably great song. Her voice is so laidback and relaxed, kind of like a female Jack Johnson, or a European Feist.

Anyways, she's feeling overwhelmed by life and everything going on, but she realizes that everyone experiences these feelings. It's normal to feel tiny and out of control.

The person in the second verse claims to be normal and happy, but they feel stress for being flawed, and since normal people are imperfect, it's hypocritical.

At first, she expresses happiness being alone, but in the final chorus, she reveals that she needs someone to be with.

The song is about the problems that we face, that we think are singular to us. In reality, everyone feels this way, we all suffer, we all have the same problems, etc.

Quietdrive – Take a Drink Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is like a confession, he's revealing himself (probably to a girl he fancies), but doesn't believe she'll accept him. He's ready for her to break his heart ("crush my heart with your new heels"), as she's somewhat shallow and won't understand him. SO...In a somewhat sarcastic/somewhat "I don't give ---" way, he says, "Take a drink with me". Showing that he's accepted that she won't accept him.

I love this song. Much better than Beverly Hills...I agree with the previous posters. The song's fairly self explanatory. But I want to type...so: it's about a shy guy who can't admit his feelings for a girl (to her) or take a chance. He's facing himself and chastising himself for this tendency of his. He hates that he can't breakout of his shell and just say what he wants to say/do what he wants to do.
