The Stills – Gender Bombs Lyrics

i agree completely. there are certain albums that speak an october language. at once bathed in colours yet dripping a rich sadness at the decay of both literal and metaphorical sunlight. this is definitely one of them. keep coming back to it again and again. hope you will too.

Phoenix – Lisztomania Lyrics

i think it's about how you sometimes have to find yourself when you come out of a relationship...you can't discuss it, you can burn the pictures, the memories might still be fresh, but in the end it's something that has to be born out of the ashes and you don't quite know what it is until you take a look at yourself and you realise you are somehow different. anyway, i can relate. the thing i really like about this song is that phoenix manage to capture something indefinable about time and relationships changing, maybe stopping to think that it's not as easy as it seems to be. "from the mess to the masses" maybe it's about indifference, like "yeah i don't care. do whatever." please, more people write about this, i'd like to know what you think. |

The Lightning Seeds – All I Want Lyrics
|
a call to arms "stop what's going on, stop what's going wrong, you'd better listen from now on". the speaker is telling the subject of the song that they are missing out on something vital and profound, indulging in their petty problems when it's much easier than they thought to be free. |

Underworld – Dirty Epic Lyrics

resonator, that makes a lot of sense. i was inclined to agree with ANorthernSoul76 and say it had no particular meaning other than technological paranoia, sex and emotional dysfunction related to sex. Maybe this is them just venting their disgust about hearing all those sordid secrets and deceitful/duplicitous lives. |

Interpol – PDA Lyrics

yeah the last section of the song where daniel is talking about "something to say, something to do, nothing to say, there's nothing to do" probably ranks as one of the best moments in music, EVER. |

yeah i agree with the first person about this song being like pogo. the australians seem to be able to do beach/sunny nostalgia like no one else. |

The Whitest Boy Alive – Golden Cage Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
yes i agree that this is more about success in life/work than suicide or anything else mentioned before. the lines "of course i miss you and i miss you bad/but i also felt this way when i was with you" maybe points to the fact that the person who the song about was never around during the relationship that much because of work commitments, and maybe that was one of the big factors that caused the relationship to fail...they picked their work/success over the one who loved them. |

Zarah Leander (March 15, 1907 – June 23, 1981) was a Swedish actress and singer. She became particularly famous throughout the German speaking countries and Scandinavia for her powerful singing voice and moody romantic songs. She is also noted for having been the leading female star of Nazi-Germany's film industry. |

maybe it's about going on tour and having to sacrifice a relationship because of it? or even just moving to another country, i suppose. |

Suede – Stay Together Lyrics

i'm not quite sure what this song is about, well i have 2 different interpretations: one, it could be about the all-consuming nature of young love, where it's either passion or tragedy. and the other, about being stuck in a relationship that's going nowhere and neither person has the courage to change its course so it's much easier to think about things in fatalistic terms than face up to the reality. hm. one of my favourite songs regardless. i still remember the day this came out on single...valentine's day 1994. so appropriate, this band is one of the greatest things to come out of britpop. |

Magnet – On Your Side Lyrics

yeah it's saying that the speaker has seen the good, but he's also seen a lot of the bad and he's still decided he's on their side. simple, lovely and touching. this band is so awesome. |

Magnet – Overjoyed Lyrics
|
simple and beautiful. this song is about reaching that apex of joy (here the speaker compares it literally to being on a plane at 30 000 feet) and knowing that things can only go downhill from there. but it doesn't matter, because the feeling at that moment is enough. |

Magnet – The Day We Left Town Lyrics

it's about finally making that escape with the one you love. maybe the day you look around and finally realise "why do we put up with all this shit, let's just run away" and thus this song manages to capture that feeling perfectly, real or imagined. lovely. |

VHS Or Beta – Love In My Pocket Lyrics

love this! maybe about someone who can't figure out if they love the speaker, and the speaker is telling them to appreciate what they have now and here instead of thinking they are somehow wasting their time. |

The Radio Dept. – A Window Lyrics
|
a perfect summer urban love song....as with everything else with the radio dept., how it sounds is half the story. it inhabits the half-awake driftspace, maybe just idle thoughts one thinks while looking out the window? or maybe just general frustration about not being able to get into the swing of things, which i'm sure everyone feels at one point or another. lovely, lovely. |

Maritime – We've Got to Get Out Lyrics

"we've got to get out on the summer days to fight the loneliness and the fear. the streets are so amazing they never stay the same round here." how beautiful?! on the most basic level this song is about just getting out in the sun and leaving all your problems behind for a while. |

Black Kids – I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You Lyrics

no to the person above. he definitely says "you are the girl i've been dreaming of ever since i was a little girl." it's supposed to be in the morrissey school of gender-ambiguous songwriting.
but i agree totally about it being a beautiful, happy and deep song. it's like getting a slice of those feelings that you felt about other people in your late teens/early twenties. really, the 'kids' in this band's name has never been more fitting. |

It's about what happens when the 'popular' girl takes an interest in the indie-nerd? He knows he has a weakness for her, but no good will come out of it. Still, he's right; it's worth it, or at least you tell yourself that. |

Black Kids – Hit the Heartbrakes Lyrics

she's really into him, but the way she is acting about it is getting mundane for him and he finds himself losing interest. it's about those relationships that get 'serious' too quickly, and how it's always best to maintain the 'friend' in girl/boy-friend. |

Tahiti 80 – Soul Deep Lyrics
|
i think the speaker is drawing strength from the fact that this person has 'soul', saying that they are 'wasting their time' but at the same time it's what the speaker wants to keep 'inside my heart where feelings are soul deep'. |
