Rasputina – Child Soldier Rebellion Lyrics 16 years ago
It may partially have to do with child-soldier rebellion, but the part where she sings, "Then into their rag tag clothing
An officer sews.
He says, “This will make for victorious battles.
It is a magical stone.” I think may also have something to do with the continuing problem in africa regarding the diamond minds and the torture that the miners are put through.

Rasputina – Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
I totally agree with you "Black", this is one of the best covers I've ever heard, and though I'm a little afraid to say it, I actually like this version better than the original. The cello's beautiful haunting quality puts a new spin on this song

Loreena McKennitt – The Highwayman Lyrics 17 years ago
I wish the highwayman had gotten revenge on that evil little jerk that ratted them out.Tragedy aside however, it's a beautiful tale and a great ghost story to tell on cold halloween nights, or heck on any night for that matter

Rasputina – Rose K. Lyrics 18 years ago
Supposedly Rose Kennedy had some sort of neurological disorder, which caused her to get out of hand at times. By neurological disorder I mean that she climbed out of windows to meet her boyfriend and whatnot, You know a teenager. However unfortunately for her I suppose, that just wasn't the, as they say, the Kennedy way, or whatever.

Also, I think that this song may have something to do with the large amount of importance that is placed on physical and spiritual health; and how much people allow themselves to get caught up in it.

Violent Femmes – Dahmer Is Dead Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with weather woman, it so sovery unfortunate that he had to die the way the he did . Especially because, he didn't even get to fufill one last very important mission, which is ridding the world of ridiculous psycotic idiot's such as your self.

Rasputina – Possum of the Grotto Lyrics 18 years ago
While I'm not exactly sure what the full meaning of this song is, I do have a few theories. Although the last two lines confuse me,
" He lives under the banyon tree.
When I'm in trouble, he helps me.
I hear him creep
Through the leaves at night.
His flesh is pink,
But his fur is bright snow white!"
the first stanza seems to be taking about Buddah. Having found disillusioned with palace life, Siddhartha Gautama went out into the world. On his journey, he saw three of the main evils of the world, sickness, old age and death, he then decided to find a way to end the suffering. After a few failed attemps, one of which was taking on the ascetic life, Gautama went into meditation under the Bodhi tree (aka the Banyan tree). Althrough the night he was plauged by the evil Mara in his attempts to distract him from his mission. Nonetheless, Gautama defeated Mara, realized the cause of suffering and how to remove it. From then on he would be known as Shakyamuni Buddha. There is also the line, "Alkalize or die" which is not only a term for having balanced diet, but is also a book. So it seems that the song has something to do with ones expression towards sprituality. Whatever it means, it is one of their most perplexing songs.

Rasputina – Nov. 17dee Lyrics 18 years ago
What I think this song is about is how, like a deluge the winter holidays come down upon people, starting with November. And while everyone makes a big deal out of it all, many of them tend to forget where the importance really lies. We go about our lives all throughout the earlier months, then suddenly were oppressed with years of traditions and expectations . It can be extremely exhausting and what's worse about it all is, as Melora says were all just aliens. Were all celebrating our existence on a land that isn't even ours.

Nina Simone – Pirate Jenny Lyrics 18 years ago
This song depicts the archetypal dream of every person that has been oppressed. It is about an act of revenge carried out by an unnamed woman, a maid, upon her oppressors. The song was originaly performed by the late Nina Simone. What is so compelling about this song is not only the victorious triumph with which she sings the song but also the ominus tone of the song.

Rasputina – My Orphanage Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about a person who, from an already bad place in their lives was placed in an even worse one. Although they hate were they are in their lives, it has also a part of them and because they don't know of anything else they not only accept it and but they even go so far as to welcome it. As it says in lines 8 and 31 "My Orphanage, My hateful place.", "My Orphanage, My Dear." However, with that acceptance comes hate. In hating where they come from, they also hate themselves; as do a lot of us, in some from or another.

What's really sad about this song is the fact that there are so many people in America nowadays, especially teenagers, are able to relate to it.

I think that this song is about the desperate measures some people will resort to, when they've really set their minds to something. That's were the verse "I've not heard of girls returning," might come from. Because these girls are so much in need to feel love that they'll go out of town with the sole intention of metting a man to marry, and one that they don't even know from jack now less.

This song is about the act of falling in love and then later discovering it was just an evil (or for that matter evol) trick of the mind. God, it almost scary how much I relate to this song,
