Here's what I think: The whole song is written from a point of view of an oppressing institution, could be government. They're talking about the common people, saying that they fear the government therefore they (the governemnt) can do whatever's on their mind because the people are too blind to see or too deaf to hear those wrongs anyways. And this system is passed on for generations; people are born with "silverware clenched in their teeth" meaning with this mindset of "okay, the government is right they're here to protect me, nothing's wrong".. They're saying that they're going to plan out the lives of the people and they're going to obey because they have no choice, perhaps because they don't know any better. Though they have potential and they could rise if they wanted to, they never will because they're just too blind to do that. And yuh basically that's it. it makes a lot of sense to me lol but it's just my opinion. Also, I look more into this song as religion being the oppressing force and not government but I don't want to really write about that because I know many ABR fans are Christians, so I don't want to offend anyone.. so yuh. |

No matter what you say, I AM a true Atreyu fan. I loved this band like you can't even imagine, okay. and I am so fucking disappointed. metalshreadhead, I couldn't have said it better. They sound like every second band on the street now. And sorry to say, but the new lyrics are horrible. Like, if this was their debut album then my opinion would probably be different. But after incredible albums like The Curse and Suicide Notes And Butterfly Kisses.. its sounds like shit I'm sorry. The guitar is nice and all.. but.. It's 2 steps backwards for them. It almost feels like it's meant to be bad gosh. Feel free to attack me, I really don't give a fuck. Cus you know it's true, you just won't admit it cus you think that true fans never criticize albums. Oh guess what they do! Stevie Wonder is blind. For Stevie Wonder's Eyes Only - For Blind Eyes Only. And I think this song is about revenge/ betrayal. "It's 3:18, mouth tastes like the corpse of every pregnant teen, The minutes are hours, the hours are days, I feel infected by your presence, you speak in tounges, I smell the lies dancing on your blackened lungs," Probably describing the shock immediately after the betrayal of a loved one- the time seems like it's dragging on and on... She (I'm going to assume it's a she) is probably trying to say sorry, get back with the person, but it makes him even more mad ("infected by your presence"). Whatever she says doesn't make sense anymore ("you speak in tounges"), and he basically cannot trust her at all anymore ("I smell the lies...") "I whispered in her ear: Fear me dear, for I am Death, I'll take your hope, your dreams, your love, Till there's nothing left" He is so mad that his main aim becomes taking revenge on her, it's all he's consumed with. He wants to take everything away from her, to properly punish her. "And I'll take that shit you call a life, In a single fucking breath" Same idea, he wants to take her pointless life away as quickly and painfully as possibly. "I hear the fear in your voice, but you shouldn't feel a thing, Your life's already worse than any pain that I could bring, That I could bring, That I could bring," I think he means that her life is so empty, shallow and dirty that even when he takes away everything from her it wouldn't even make a difference. "I could make it December every day, But you're so blind, it may as well be May," Same idea, she is so blind (relates to the title of the song) that she wouldn't differentiate December from May, she is too empty/blind to even notice any revenge he will bring to her because she's dead inside anyways.
