Sparklehorse – Morning Hollow Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The lyrics sound like it's about a pet that has died. The parts about not getting up when he goes into the room, the crows always being out of reach, the bed by the stove and a walk in a graveyard are all point to it being a pet (a dog) that is dying/dead. |
Tim Buckley – Once I Was Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Absolutly perfect. One of my favourite songs ever. The lyrics, especially the second verse, are so beautiful! |
Klaxons – Atlantis to Interzone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Haha silly me, it was quite obvious that was gravity's rainbow. Oh well, I've changed it now. Anyway this song is amazing. Yeah. |
Razorlight – In The City Lyrics | 18 years ago |
In this song, the influence of Patti Smith is so obvious. If anyone has heard Horses, Land in particular you can tell that this song was probably written after Johnny Borrell listened to that album and thought shit I wish I could write something like this. But yeah it's a good song. Nothing really to say about the lyrics, they're just social observation really. |
Sigur Rós – Glósóli Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Oh my LORD this song is like the musical equivalent of an orgasm. The lyrics don't seem to matter when listening to Sigur Ros, the voice is just like another instrument in itself, but after hearing the English translation I think that writing about finding the sun is just one of the sweetest things a song has ever been written about. This song is simply out of this world. RealSugar, I am SO jealous of you! I would love to see this sung live. |

Bright Eyes – The Biggest Lie (Elliott Smith cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Bloody amazing. I love Bright Eyes and Elliott Smith, but I have to say I do prefer the Bright Eyes version. The bit where Conor sings "Oh we're so very precious you and I, And everything that you do makes me wanna die," sends shivers up my spine :) But yeah, Bright Eyes fans should definately look into Elliott Smith ... |
Ryan Adams – This House Is Not for Sale Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The ghost thing makes sense. If that is the real meaning I really love this line "We can grab a couple sheets and give them quite a scare" It just makes me laugh :) |
Willy Mason – Fear No Pain Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is lovely. I love the bit where it speeds up. Um I think the meanings quite obvious so I won't write loads about that. Just basically Willy wants to leave and get away, and he knows it is a risk but it will work out because he has faith in God. Well .. that's my interpretation! |
Ryan Adams – World War 24 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about people just going through the motions. "She don't even ask what time it is anymore Dressed up like it's World War 24 " sounds like Ryan's girlfriend is just drifting along, everything has happened before and nothing is new. But it kind of sounds like they like it that way. "And if we get too high We'll burn this town Oh, baby, bring me down I'm all yours I'm all yours" sounds like their relationship wouldn't work if they weren't just kind of coasting along. |
Kings of Convenience – I Don't Know What I Can Save You From Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Aw this song is just beautiful, especially the bit in the middle with just the guitars. I think you guys have got the meaning sorted so I won't expand on that anymore. |
Arctic Monkeys – Fake Tales of San Francisco Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I tried submitting these lyrics aswell! Er excuse me "ntwjones" but how are they trying to be American? Have you heard their accents? Have you listened to their lyrics or their music? You think a band is trying to be American? Try Son Of Dork. Oh and I agree with trumpettom, could there ever be an American Oasis?!?! Anyway, back to the lyrics. Basically the song is about a band who are up their arses and think they're amazing, but actually they're crap. Also, they're trying to be things they're not, i.e. cool. |
Belle & Sebastian – I Could Be Dreaming Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I LOVE this song, especially at the end when that girl is talking; freakin amazing. |
The Veils – The Valleys of New Orleans Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I've had the album for a while, but only recently listened carefully to the lyrics. It was actually at the time of hurricane Katrina, and I thought this song explained it completely. "Till the mouth of some hurricane sweeps them away" Although it's about a sad subject, it has a kind of optimistic feel.. "Sidney says God is watching so don’t fear now She says he’s bound to come, given time" |
Elliott Smith – Strung Out Again Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about being on drugs, and possibly ending his life whilst being on drugs " know how i begin and how i'll end strung out again" It also sounds like it's kind of about looking back, reflecting on his life and how he is now. There are a few mentions of mirrors and reflections. "standing, smiling on some fantasy island look in at my locked reflection again" It also kind of sounds like bad people that don't deserve praise and recognition, often get it a lot more than ordinary people I also agree with imajar, there are so many other drug related comments on the other songs, why not on this one? also .. "i don't know where i'm going and i don't even wanna know" .. great line |
Elliott Smith – Coast to Coast Lyrics | 18 years ago |
OK, I've worked out some/most of the two poems read out at the end. At some points they make no sense at all, but I tried my best! Hopefully someone else can add to them? One of the voices says "...in your paths, the preacher ... the underpath .. at my speech the one Disembodied from the flood … Simplest from the wilders You held out to me the palm of your hand Emanate your presence And let me strive and then Go shadows for your tolerance With fog rolls in your .. full, your salt Explains feathers that flip from air .. as I sold To be consumed by the snow white cold If only I could If only the plastic hold could stand the flame Then this fabric torch Would know no shame and be at strict play With the sun that burns the glory And honor of your mortal holy name In the twilight the morning starts to glow Unmistakable Keeping me where I go with smoothing and sway To be begged Filled with ancient.." Then the other voice (which was much harder to work out by the way!) says … Sublime sketch This principle fuel check Will keep a decision To be either emerald with envy Or emerald with ... fortune doesn't divvy (??) with.. with a possibility and I kept mine To go one green world after the next No I don't take bets Almost notes this With the sung pages Of future songs Reigster from priceless indecisiveness Alter calm .. designs From the greatness of change and chance Free wills merit glorious motive change With the blueprints of fates reigns mapped Unrolled from a it’s silk scroll .. prance By the wall to windows face as you dance Looking out at the spring into deep space At which. It's easiest to work out if you listen with headphones, and just listen through one headphone for each voice So ... I hope that helped. |
Jeff Buckley – You and I Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is AMAZING. I think it's basically about two people in love. It kind of sounds like people have given them a hard time, or they have other issues to think about before they can fully commit to a relationship "and we will feel the weight. fall away from us in time. searching our past for the true." Maybe I'm wrong, but that line implies some kind of baggage, or something holding them back. But when they finally get over it, or get rid of it, they can fully be in the relationship. "ah, the calm below that poisoned river wild, you and i. " That line kind of makes it sound like the poisoned river wild is the world around them, and their love is trying to exist within it. |
Willy Mason – 21st Century Boy Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is about a boy (possibly about Willy Mason himself?) who doesn't really understand or have peoples obsessions with things like the internet and mobile phones, he just enjoys the simple pleasures of music. Also, he is not really understood by the world around him, except when he plays his music because everything is simplified and he doesn't need to be anything that he's not in order to impress people. He picked up the guitar Tells it everything his tongue can’t say. I think that line is about the fact that he "lost all of his friends" and therefore has no one to talk to about his problems, he only has his guitar to turn to. This song is one of my favourite on the cd, it's an amazing song |
