Foo Fighters – All My Life Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I've been reading many posts for many songs and although there are some similar opinions, it's interesting to note that a person's interpretation is often based on age, life experience, and so on. True art comes from the collective consciousness--so even the ARTIST himself doesn't always know what a song "means". Music is a gift which is why we all love it so much and turn to it in times of great sadness and also times of great joy. I have heard songs that made me think of mother/daughter love yet others say it's a lesbian song or someone else will say it's about drugs. Love, sex, drugs--all addictive. It gives you a high. And it is often the cause of much heartbreak. I recently lost a loved one and now almost every song I hear is about death and mourning a lost loved one. Even OLD songs that I thought were about romantic love. As for THIS song, I can see it being about sex or drugs. Especially the "easte/taste" reference. But for ME --it is a song about life's problems and how they keep coming at you. "Done done and I'm on to the next one". A song of frustration about not getting what you want or need. It is probably about a lot of things (like Carly Simon admitted "You're so vain" is about a combination of many old loves. I mean, if it was JUST about sex or JUST about drugs, would it be called "All My Life" I think it is about life and that never-ending search for peace or joy or love or whatever. He's worried about finally getting it and then losing it again (the ghost reference). Whatever "it" is could be a CAREER, a HIT SONG, a LOVE, or even LIFE itself. The wrist part is about control--either controlling himself and his behavior or someone else's. This is just MY interpretation but that is because it is my song. As it is yours. And Dave's. ANd everyone else's. Music belongs to all. |

Soundgarden – Superunknown Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The Superunknown is Life...There are things we don't know--may never know--and we have to accept that fact. Also, some things in life aren't always black and white, either/or: "If this isn't what you see It doesn't make you blind If this doesn't make you feel It doesn't mean you've died" |

Foo Fighters – What If I Do? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
The lyrics successfully capture the loneliness of making a difficult, life-altering choice. This decision before him is so serious that he is praying to God about it (in his own way). The lyrics are vague enough that they could pertain to a relationship choice or a career choice--it's unclear. I would guess a relationship choice since he mentions "that voice of yours keeps me up at night" and he'd have to "lose everything just to find you". He may be choosing between his lifestyle and love or between his old relationship and a new one. These lyrics could fit a person who is married or in a serious relationship but in love with someone else... |
Foo Fighters – Miracle Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is the morning after "Best of You". The singer has calmed down and isn't as frustrated with the person he loves. In "Miracle" he is gently asking her to come to him. Just as in "Best of You" he isn't giving up "I swear I'll never give in, I refuse", in this song he says the same thing "There ain't no way I'll et you take it away". Clearly, the person he loves and wants to be with is resisting for some reason (another person in her life, I assume). But he is lamenting that this relaionship he has with her is too much of a miracle for them not to be together. |

I love the way this song captures the essence of frustration. Although it seems to be a rather angry song, with the rapid-fire beat and the shouting vocals, I get more of a sense of the utter frustration of witnessing someone you love choosing to be with someone else who is not right for them. At the beginning, the singer swears he'll never give in. But toward the end, he warns that he won't be able to hold out forever. "I'm getting tired of starting again". |
Pearl Jam – Release Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Oh, dear dad, can you see me now I am myself, like you somehow" For those of us, like Eddie, who never got to know their biological fathers but who inherited many of their traits, this line is very poignant. |
Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Whether a fan of Pearl Jam or not, no one can listen to this song and not feel the power of the passionate, heart-wrenching lyrics and vocals. Eddie has a way of letting us see his soul, laid right out before us. I believe there is an error in the lyrics. I think "chafe" is really "shake". I love the line "Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything..." To me, this means that all of the hurt and pain have "tattooed" the good memories, hence the title of the song. Anone who has been heartbroken knows that feeling--that everything is BLACK, even when "surrounded by some kids at play". Then, of course, Eddie delivers this line at the end: "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a sun In somebody else's sky, but why Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine" How many of us have lamented this very thought after a break up? |
Soundgarden – Fell on Black Days Lyrics | 19 years ago |
"Whatsoever I've feared has come to life Whatsoever I've fought off became my life" To me this song is about self-inflicted wounds; making the very mistakes that he tried so hard not to make. "Whomsoever I've cured I've sickened now Whomsoever I've cradled I've put you down" And in making these mistakes, he has hurt the ones he loves most. |
