At the Drive-In – Arcarsenal Lyrics 18 years ago
it's about Jeffrey Dahmer, i dont' think whathisface could've laid it out more clearly. Cedric said it's about Jeffrey Dahmer, then it's about jeffery dahmer. BUT if you want some different interpretations, it can be applied to war in general, not just the one in iraq.

Death from Above 1979 – Black History Month Lyrics 18 years ago
did you people ever stop to think that a song can have several different interpretations? It's no use arguing over it, but you can at least throw out suggestions rather than "you're wrong"s..s

Sigur Rós – Starálfur Lyrics 18 years ago
sigur ros isn't about the lyrics, he developed hopelandic as an instrument, not a voice. The singing is an instrument, not a voice.

Death Cab for Cutie – Fake Frowns Lyrics 18 years ago
not every song has to be about love, i mean c'mon people, open your minds.

Sureee a lot of songs are about it, but some aren't, like WHy You'd Want to Live Here, and such.

I'm thinking it's just abuot a guy wrongly accused of a crime, by some unfair system of judgement. Like Witch trial type, notice he uses "Magistrate" which no longer exist, but were used during Witch Trials.

you figure out.

Death Cab for Cutie – President of What? Lyrics 18 years ago
yeah this song was originally released on cassette in 1997, when clinton was president. I don't really think this is necessariy about the president of the country, but somethign else. i dont have you're answers though, the art of bashin gpresidents in music only happens when republicans are in charge. Like the Dead Kennedys song "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" is about when Reagan was elected, and NOfx and their softspot for bush dressed up as a clown, people don't really rag on democratic presidents, becuase most artists are liberal, but there are some exceptions.

Belle & Sebastian – Belle and Sebastian Lyrics 18 years ago
Belle and Sebastian is a french TV show from the 60s, based off of a series of books. Belle is a big dog, and Sebastian is the boy. I'm not sure what the show was about, i've never watched it. But i have a feeling it has something to do with this song.

Dead Kennedys – We've Got A Bigger Problem Now Lyrics 18 years ago
There's a version i've heard that opens with "Last call for alcohol, last call for freedom of speech. Drink Up, Happy hour is now enforced by law. Don't forget our house special, it's called a Trickie Dickie Screwdriver, it's got 1 part Jack Daniels, 2 parts Purple Kool-aid, and a jigger of fermaldahyde from the jar with hitler's brain in it we got in the back store-room"

My question is, why the reference to RIchard Nixon (trickie dickie screwdriver), is he just like "yeah ronald reagan sucks, but don't forget when Richard Nixon screwed us over"? or what?

Belle & Sebastian – Marx and Engels Lyrics 18 years ago
Karl Marx and Freidrich Engels are the writers of The Communist Manifesto and Capital, which is abuot how the working class can rise and defeat the bourgeouisie, creating a classless society. Hence, communist manifesto. But it's supposed to be inspirational to the workers to fight, even though it didn't work. But i think the song might be about the world being miserable and poor people not being able to afford necessities perhaps? And the girl i guess is also someone who is poor, but my best guess in the end ("That the girl just wants tobe/left alone with marx and engels for a while/she's writing in the style/of any riot girl) is about her writing inspirationally i suppose? I'm really talking out my ass here.

The Shins – Know Your Onion! Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm not really sure what exactly it means, but i love how James Mercer leaves you to interpret it your own way, like in this song, when he says "And when they're parking the cars on your chest, you've still got a view of the summer sky..." you can apply that to ANYTHING. Like if you date someone awesome and you break up and you feel crappy, but you were lucky enough to meet that person. Or when you have a crappy job, you're still making money, and YES, even jerkin your gerkin. But as to the rest of the song, i think it's about angst in general, and being sad, once again, he leaves it open for you to take it your own way. They're metaphors, not stories. It can be about relationships if you're an emo boy, or it can be about wackin it, or it can be about a crappy job, however you want, it's about staying happy because some things aren't worth being sad over.

Regina Spektor – Braille Lyrics 19 years ago
I think it's about a poor (finanicial wise) single mother who gives birth to a blind son, and the song is just about how hard it was. I love how she writes her songs about STORIES and not feelings, and how they're told through the perspective of the characters in the song.
