When I first heard this song, my first thought was that it was referring to death.
But when I listened to it again, I realised it was about Nazism and Hitler.
At the beginning before the singing starts you can hear 'Ein, zwei, drei, HA!' In German, this means 'One, two, three'.
I think the bunker is talking about how Hitler killed himself, in a bunker with his girlfriend Eva while Soviet soldiers advanced.
'Waiting for the final solution' is talking about what the Nazis called 'the final solution to the Jewish problem' meaning genocide of the Jewish race.
'Waiting to smash in their windows and kick in their doors' is talking about Kristallnacht, which was a pogrom organised by the Nazi party to vandalise all Jewis property. Kristallnacht means 'Crystal night', and it was called that for all the broken glass after it was over.

Has anyone else that listened to this song noticed that this song contains themes form most of the songs in the album? Like the wailing from The Great Gig in the Sky, the cash register from Money, the laughing from Brain Damage, the ticking of clocks from Time, and the machine guns or helicopters from Us and Them. Turn the volume up... |

Hey Arnold, you might be right. Anyhow, this song starts off kinda sad, and then when the guitar kicks in its real uplifting, hencee the name coming back to life. I reckon this song is beautiful, and I love it. |

i wasnt supprised when i saw this had 200 and something reviews. tis is the most awesome song eva! yeh i agree wit u sockpuppet, its reli sad. you can relate to that part especially, liek "2 lost souls living in a fishbowl, year after year" ... kidna when you look back on ur life all you did was just live in the same place and repeat teh same things everyday... tis is like my second review so im not much good at it, sori |

Hmmm... well when I first saw the title "Waiting for the Worms" I thought it first meant death, like the worms eating away... But then I heard it was metaphorical and I have no idea! |
