To me, this song is about 2 very close friends, and one of them is in love with the other, but the other is in love with someone he will never have. For that reason, to me, the song feels like it is told from two different perspectives. Here's my play by play: I felt for sure last night That once we said goodbye No one else will know these lonely dreams No one else will know that part of me This part is from the perspective of the one who is in love with someone they will never have, this person confides in their best friend about the person they will never have. No one else knows their lonely dreams. I'm still driving away And I'm sorry every I wont always love these selfish things I wont always live Not stopping This is again, from the perspective of the person who is in love with someone they will never have, they are aware that their best friend is in love with them, and they are saying that they are sorry, and that maybe they will stop loving the one they can't have, but for now, they aren't stopping. It was my turn to decide I knew this was our time No one else will have me like you do No one else will have me only you This is from the perspective of the one who is in love with their best friend, they are saying, I was sure that we were going to work, then you told me we werent because of this other person, and now I don't think I will ever be able to love anyone like I love you. I'm here, I'm now, I'm ready Holding on tight Don't give away the end The one thing that stays mine This is again from the perspective of the person that is in love with their best friend. They are saying that their friend cannot sit and wait forever for this person they will never have, and that they are ready now, so their friend should choose them instead. It's also saying that this person is willing to wait, hold on tight, because they still believe that, in the end, they will be together. Amazing still it seems I'll be 23 I wont always love what I'll never have I wont always live in my regrets This is from the view of the person who is in love with someone they will never have, they are ust reiterating the first verse. They are amazed at how much of their life they have wasted on someone they will never obtain, they realize that someday they will stop trying to get that person, but for now, they are still in love with them, so they cannot be with their best friend. Ok, so, frankly, the only reason I interpret the song in that way is because that is how it is for me. I was in that situation, with my best friend. One night we were sitting outside, and he was inevitably talking about her, the girl he would never obtain, and he started singing this song. |

Did anyone ever think that this song may be a sort oof follow up type of thing to Betterman? Becuase Betterman is about a relationship that has gone cold, and this is about a cold relationship that has ended. The titles are similar, and they both make references to her "Feeding Him" "She feeds him, that why she'll be back again" "She won't feed him, after hes flown away" In betterman shes considering telling him she wont take it anymore, and in this, shes told him that. The songs just seemed very connected to me. But hey, i'm probably wrong. I do know for sure though that i *heart* this song! |
