another thought: or it could be after a break up. maybe the guy dumped her and now she's trying to convince herself that she doesn't love him anymore/doesn't need him. she hates his new girl. and she won't let him see her eyes because she doesn't want to give him the satisfaction to see her tears. and she can do whatever she wants now that she's not tied to him anymore. and like, "look at all these things i can do. i don't care that you left me because i don't need you." |

i think it's about a woman who is in denial of her feelings for a man who loves her. she keeps saying that she won't call him back and won't show him her eyes and will never fall in love, yet, for some odd reason, she hates this guy's girlfriend. she hates his girlfriend because she can't come to terms with the fact that SHE wants to be his girlfriend. i think catherineks is on the right track about the climax where she repeats "i cannot fall in love" over and over. it certainly does sound like it's something she's reminding herself not to let herself do. to me, it's like she thinks love will make her weak or something. because she's putting on this show of self-confidence, like "look at all these things i can do. i don't need love to teach me how to do the frug." and it's kind of a selfishness thing, because when you're in love, you sacrifice yourself and do everything for that other person. but right now, she can do whatever she wants - take care of her own self ("i can make some mac & cheese"), develop her own talents ("i can do a backbend"), indulge her own desires ("i can sleep twelve hours"). love will take all of that away, and she's not ready to let go, so she denies her feelings for this guy. |
