Kevin Devine – Murphy's Song Lyrics

It's pretty clear that this song is about Kevin Devine's dog that passed away, and he said as much at a recent show in Toronto. |

Animal Collective – Chores Lyrics
|
Its pretty clear that this song follows many of the themes expressed in the album. Its about growing up and having to accept responsibility, even if you don't want to. I know one or more of the members had recently had a child, so this makes a lot of sense. This song is just about having to do chores and take responsibility, and though he would rather go outside and get stoned. Instead of just being able to do the latter, he has to do his chores first, implying he has come to accept his responsibility. Further, the responsibility he now requires as a father and wanting to get stoned are not necessarily mutually antagonistic. |

Matthew Good – Lullaby For The New World Order Lyrics
| 16 years ago

I believe Matt said this was written to make the cd more commercial, and he wishes that he didn't put it on the CD, or at least not after Pledge of Allegiance, which I agree would be more powerful if followed by Weapon and not this song. |

Matthew Good – Metal Airplanes Lyrics
|
If I'm not mistaken from his blog, this could be about a time when Matt flew to Europe (specifically England) to clear his head about his relationships, but he later realized it was an awful idea and that he wasn't mentally fit enough to do it. His plan, as I recall, was to travel around but he really just stayed with some friends in England and had to come back home. |

Matthew Good – Born Losers Lyrics

Well, from reading Matt's mini life story on his website and seeing the pictures he drew in the hospital after a pseudo-purposeful overdose of pills....you can match the lyrics up easily. I think a lot of it is extremely purposeful. The most important part, I'd say, is the first three lines or so. It really gives an idea of what the song is about. |

Deftones – Rats!Rats!Rats! Lyrics

If it's written by Chino it could certainly be about him cheating on his wife. If you read it through that lens, it makes a lot of sense. He got the girl we wanted but was it worth it? He lost his wife for it. |

Moneen – The Song I Swore to Never Sing Lyrics
| 17 years ago

This song is apparently the only love song that "slipped onto the record", according to Kenny when I saw them live. He said he intended for the cd to have no love songs but this one got on it. Not sure exactly what its about. |

Moneen – Start Angry... End Mad Lyrics
|
In an interview i remember reading that Kenny said "it's definetly not about our old bassist", obviously meaning the opposite. They had a bassist for two years who left before this cd, and it refers to him. 2 years is a long time to pretend...maybe he said he was just pretending to like their music or be their friend? |

Iron & Wine – Sixteen, Maybe Less Lyrics
|
I think this song is about regret. it's about a young love back in the day that never was truly experienced, and way later on in life after having a family and kids, he regretted never getting this girl. Notice how he "met his wife at a party" when he drank too much and his son isnt too happy with their relationship, showing how his life now isnt nearly as good as it could have been with that other girl. |

Cave-In – Big Riff Lyrics
|
To me this could be about Cave In's change in sound, which was completed with this cd. The song seems to say the band is changing because of what it wants, not to be commercial, and yet people will accuse them of selling out. "you're another coat of red in hell."
Either way, this song is the last one to have Stephen's scream, and its the best song on this cd. So much passion in the vocals. |

Breaking Pangaea – Under The Talking Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
this is the first breaking pangaea song I ever heard. It's an absolutely beautiful song. It's just about how everyone knows you're going to break up but no one will talk about it. It always seems to happen with this unspoken silence, and he is wondering if he could have done something different to make the relationship work. |

this is just about being apart from someone and when you return, you never want to go but you have to leave them again and again with a word or phrase. |

Breaking Pangaea – Lullaby Lyrics

this is my favourite breaking pangaea song. it starts out just like a lullaby, rocks out, and returns to the slower pace. Definetly one of Fred's best. |

I agree that it is about materialism to an extent, but its also about the importance of God's love, above the love of all else. |

As I Lay Dying – Meaning In Tragedy Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
Perhaps he's questioning his faith in God because of losing someone close. He is wondering whether there is in fact, this "meaning in tragedy" that so many clergy will claim. "it was part of God's plan" is basically what this questions. |

It's a promise to God that he will always stand by his side. It's not about a relationship with some girl, its about his relationship with God. |

As I Lay Dying – Distance Is Darkness Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
this song, like most of As I Lay Dying's is about Tim's relationship with God. It clearly about a point in time when he turned away from God, perhaps in anger "losing his senses" but that only brought him more misery. Beneath all the misery that came, when he came back he still found love. |
