Broken Social Scene – Sentimental X's Lyrics | 13 years ago |
obviously the best song on the new record. and just a remarkably clear representation of how Emily is one of their best assets, and they should have tried to use her more. All the songs she's done with them are among their best: Anthems, Swimmers, and even Backyards. And now this. She really does them so much good. |
Owen Pallett – Tryst With Mephistopheles Lyrics | 14 years ago |
fantastic. the epic fight scene that was a long time coming. Lewis triumphs over Owen. the title is very clever, comparing Owen to Mephistopheles, one of the seven princes of Hell (sometimes used as a stock character for Satan himself.) Very good work. |
Owen Pallett – The Great Elsewhere Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think he kind of loses it in Oh Heartland Up Yours. but then in this song he still wants to see him face to face, with the smallest amount of faith left. but then Owen betrays him by not protecting him. |
Owen Pallett – Lewis Takes Action Lyrics | 14 years ago |
no i hear "a" too. i think there isnmore than one No Face. i get the sense that they're some sort of species sent out by Lewis' adversaries to hinder his progress in achieving his divine quest. |
Owen Pallett – Red Sun No. 5 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i get the sense that he just thinks his entire being is that of a server to his god. i think "HIS LOVE" is Owen's. |
Owen Pallett – The Ballad of No-Face Lyrics | 14 years ago |
althoguh, re-reading, i almsot think this might be the perspective of some sort of wayward saint. like a man who was God before Owen was. |
Owen Pallett – The Ballad of No-Face Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i see the homophobe thing, but im trying to remain within his story. in doing so, i am getting these vibes that No Face is like a satanic entity in the storyline. |
Portishead – Small Lyrics | 14 years ago |
beautful and impeccably made song. (by the way... it REALLY does sound like she says "hoping to score") |
Owen Pallett – E Is For Estranged Lyrics | 14 years ago |
oh man. this song is brutal. the 2nd verse, about his son. beautifully written. it's a heartbreaking passage. this song is something else entirely. this is the msot personal song on here (to Lewis). this is amazing. |
Tiny Vipers – Development Lyrics | 15 years ago |
my favorite. i think theres issues in the last verse, so if anyone can help me find what i did wrong, please tell me. |
Tiny Vipers – Eyes Like Ours Lyrics | 15 years ago |
An excellent song with a subtlely increasing intensity. |
St. Vincent – Marry Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love her slightly r&b-tinged verses, and the slightly off-kilter rhyme scheme. very clever. just a great song by a fantastic artist. |
Mirah – Education Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i cannot believe this has no comments. this is the most beautiful song on the new record, and one of her best ever. it's about the "education" she received after being with someone for a long time. she realized how unfulfilling they actually were. and now she knows what not to look for. i love the metaphor with the dead deer. so poetic and spot-on. |
Antony and the Johnsons – One Dove Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i can't believe this has no comments. this is undoubtedly the best song on the album and one of the most utterly beautiful he's ever written. |
St. Vincent – Just the Same But Brand New Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love this song. It should be the closer, because it has a brilliant climax and then a very long instrumental tone-down. The I feel like "The Sequel" just ruins it. |
St. Vincent – Laughing With A Mouth of Blood Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love: "I can't see the future but I know it's watching me. (I wonder what it sees)." It's a great and mysterious, thoughtful bit. |
St. Vincent – The Neighbors Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My favorite on the album, I think. I love the emotion in the crack in her voice when she says "tomorrow's some kind of stranger who Im not supposed to say" |
St. Vincent – Save Me From What I Want Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the "watch your step" backing vocal. it makes me smile. |
St. Vincent – Black Rainbow Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The musical break at the end of this is a highlight of the record. This is beautiful. |
José González – Killing for Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I actually do hear the "die". I don't know why you guys don't. You just don't want it there. But it actually makes sense with the song. You guys think it's some sort of blasphemy that someone thought they heard lyrics that you don't. Big deal. I hear the "die." That's all. And I love this song. |
Emmy Rossum – Slow Me Down Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Imogen Heap is different. she has a unique texture to her songs, they're a bit less confessional too. She likes to obscure the norm. Her voice is very unique, and she doesn't usually use 30 layers of her own voice. Even "Hide & Seek" was just like 6 layers, and they were all made at the same time using a vocoder. Emmy Rossum is like singer-songwriter but in amore ambient light. Not that ambient, I could never feel right calling her ambient. But neither is Imogen Heap. I think what it comes down it is that Emmy Rossum has a more ambient-minded approach to pop, while Imogen Heap has an electronica/techno approach without it being too computerized. It's a close call, but they are different enough. |
Fever Ray – Triangle Walks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
probably the song that comes closest to the odd danciness of The Knife, on the album. it's brilliant. |
Fever Ray – Dry and Dusty Lyrics | 15 years ago |
When I first listened to this album I was shocked by how naked and personal the lyrics were. The Knife write extremely obscure songs, lyrically and musically. But Karin's side project is a lot more personal. The lyrics are from inside, and sometimes they seem so personal that I feel like maybe she shouldn't have said that. It feels like she's confessing everything in her head to you. But this album is spectacular, this song in particular is magical. I love Fever Ray. |
Fever Ray – Keep the Streets Empty For Me Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think is my favorite from the album. It's just sensational, so lonesome and profound, but so deeply moving and beautiful. |
Marnie Stern – Ruler Lyrics | 15 years ago |
in the second occurance of: "I have not slept for nights. I look back over my shoulder just once, That is right, nothing can hold me down." i definitely hear "I have not slept for nights. I look back over my shoulder just once, What I can't see is chasing me down" |
Animal Collective – Brother Sport Lyrics | 15 years ago |
daddy's done!! makes more sense, the songs about the death of their father. |
Animal Collective – Lion in a Coma Lyrics | 15 years ago |
are not what they're so used to being i trick myself when (?) is "are not what they're supposed to be i trick myself with it gets hard" |
Animal Collective – Guys Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Panda's songs (even though i think both of them sing on this one) seem to often have the words "my girl" somehwere in its lyrics. is that a sign of something... ? |
Animal Collective – Bluish Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the last verse of this song is one of the weakest lyrical points of the album. but this song as a whole is one of the strongest songs on the album. |
Animal Collective – Brother Sport Lyrics | 15 years ago |
nd i agree with Imagineit. I think it does vary between "sports brother" and "support your brother" |
Animal Collective – Brother Sport Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is so joyous of a closer. so much fun. |
Animal Collective – No More Runnin Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think avey sings this song, but the "its what i hoped for / no more runnin'" i think is sung by both in harmony. this is perhaps the best song on the album. the calmest, but the most delicate and beautiful. |
Animal Collective – Lion in a Coma Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song seems to be about with someone in a coma who has mixed thoughts about their position. |
Animal Collective – Lion in a Coma Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love the last line of this song, when he changes the lyrics but it sounds thge same. substantially changes the connotations. love it. this is a fun song. |
Animal Collective – Taste Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love this song. one of my favs. amazing lyrics, like my favorite bit: "Try not to judge me on my kind of taste. And don't go changing clothes when they don't like yours." so truthful. |
Animal Collective – My Girls Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love this song, especially the "OHHHHHHH"s in the background after the "and adobe slabs for my girls" :) make me smile |
The Decemberists – Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is Laura Veirs doing the harmony. There is no mistake. And I love this song. |
Rachael Yamagata – Elephants Lyrics | 15 years ago |
its not "teeth sinking in too hard" its "teeth sinking into heart" (hense the name of the 2nd disc of this album) gorgeous song. |
Los Campesinos! – We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
catchy and amazingly orchestrated & played. witty and well written lyrics. |
Crystal Castles – Tell Me What to Swallow Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Mysterious. Sad. Beautiful. they should do more acoustic songs like this. it's gorgeous. |
Crystal Castles – Untrust Us Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this is one of the best of the year. It's quiet, and yet danceable. Not as harsh as their other songs. And there's something so woeful about it. It sounds remarkably sad, despite the effects on the vocals and the beats. It sounds sad and mysterious, and it is one of their only beautiful songs. ("Tell Me What to Swallow" is another one.) |
Mates of State – The Re-Arranger Lyrics | 15 years ago |
When I saw them in concert, this was the highlight. The big finale with all the "RE-ARRANGE US!!" and the "Oooooh"s was mimicked by the entire crowd, to create this gigantic choral effect from the audience. It was completely magical. All our voices meshing together, filling the room with such life. My favorite song on the album. |
Shearwater – The Hunter's Star Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the lyrics of this song slightly mention other songs on the record. not that that has a meaning necessarily, i'm just pointing out. |
Shearwater – I Was a Cloud Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this is my favorite song on the record. Just so melodic and so touching. The hushed "steady your wings now sparrow" gave me chills. |
Shearwater – Home Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
his voice reminds me of kate bush a lot especially in this song, melody of it included |
Shearwater – Home Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
his voice reminds me of kate bush a lot especially in this song, melody of it included |
Shearwater – Rooks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i just love the subtly intricate melody of this song. |
Shearwater – Rooks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i just love the subtly intricate melody of this song. |
Animal Collective – For Reverend Green Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i'm too lazy to scan all these pages to see if someone else said this, so i'm going to say it anyway: in the chorus, i don't think he said "that's a riot." i think he says "that's alright, yeah." (or, phonetically, alri-ight, yeah.) |
Frog Eyes – Bushels Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is a great song. i don't think the lyrics are necessarily the focal point. this doesn't sound like it has much of a meaning. but i'm sure it does with them. let it be. |
