Mount Eerie – Between Two Mysteries Lyrics 14 years ago
My favorite song of the newest album. I watched him and his friend Nick play this live before the album came out, and it was mesmerizing. Obviously it's just one part of the greater puzzle that is the album, but this song almost seems to be almost directly related to the TV show "Twin Peaks."

TV on the Radio – Family Tree Lyrics 15 years ago
This song almost makes me cry. For serious.

It reminds me of some forbidden kind of civil war era love, or something that relates to that; trees were often used as a gallows I believe. That and the fact that 4/5 of the band are black leads me to believe it has to do with those times. Maybe between a black slave and a white woman, or maybe the "you" in the song has some sort of civil war history among their ancestry that prevents the two from being together... something along those lines.

In any case, the song is terribly sad and beautiful.

The Cribs – Hey Scenesters Lyrics 17 years ago
all those kids that line up for those concerts and you look at the huge line and they look like a bunch of clones. their stupid tight pants with tears and holes patched up and leopard print bags with a bunch of band pins and white studded belts and sweatshirts with a million band patches and their stupid hair that they cut and mess up on purpose and put hairspray in it and wear roughly a gallon of eyeliner.

thats what i think this song is about.

TV on the Radio – Wolf Like Me Lyrics 17 years ago
It's kind of like... there's some bad people out there, but they hide very well that they're bad people, kinda like they're werewolves. And you can get to know them to a certain point, just well enough so that they can corrupt you, but well enough so that you can't get out, and you're stuck "howling forever," corrupt.

Tortoise – The Taut and Tame Lyrics 18 years ago
all their songs are instrumental aren't they? so they're just meant to be background music or make you feel or certain way or just be listened to. not much meaning to it other than however it makes you feel when you hear the melodies and harmonies and rhythms and everything and how it all sounds together.

Bear vs. Shark – Song About Old Roller Coaster Lyrics 18 years ago
i don't see how it's about an old roller coaster... maybe one that an accident happened on? perhaps he's on the roller coaster as he's writing it. or he's dying perhaps. or maybe it's just about an epiphone-type moment.

Bear vs. Shark – Six Bar Phrase Hey Hey Lyrics 18 years ago
well... the musical phrase in this song, which is repeated 3 times, has 6 measures of 4/4 in it. so it has a 6 bar phrase, whereas most songs have 2 or 4 or 8. so... 6 bar phrase... hey hey...

Leftover Crack – So You Wanna Be A Cop? Lyrics 18 years ago
you guys are dumbasses. try living without cops and see how long you stay alive. "ooooh anarchy yeah lets kill the cops because the are social control." maybe so. the only reason cops exist is because of mother fuckers who kill people and cause hate in the world. Sure some cops just reflect the hate back at the world. but you further reflect it and further intensify it. the world needs to chill out. we're not going to get anywhere staying in this cycle of hate. this is the problem with human society. hate is just continuously bounced back and increased. it's a fuckin disease. don't get me wrong, i love much of leftover crack's music. but they need to stop focusing on the bad things in the world so much. sure we need exposure. there's no doubt about it. but really... where do they think they are going CONSTANTLY talking about the SAME THINGS OVER AND OVER? okay. sorry. im done. thank you.

Seems to be about... social control, and how it won't fix anything, and the glory portrayed in being a part of that is fake.

The Dismemberment Plan – You Are Invited Lyrics 18 years ago
Basically an allegory of thinking that you want something and ultimately realizing that it won't make you feel any happier after you get it. And now that you're enlightened, you put someone else on that same path you just followed [that second person might as well be our protagonist at the beginning of the song, so it's cyclical].

The Dismemberment Plan – The Face of the Earth Lyrics 18 years ago
imagine for a moment you've been dating someone for a few months. you've gotten to know them relatively well, you still don't know a whole lot of their secrets, but they're on the verge of becoming at least a good friend in the end. now imagine they die. you didn't know their family. they lived in an apartment by themselves. you didn't know their friends very well. she didn't know yours that well. what are you supposed to do? how sad are you really supposed to be? how sad CAN you be?

From First to Last – Kiss Me, I'm Contagious Lyrics 18 years ago
and im not trying to manipulate, i'm trying to open you people's minds about the mindless sexuality that's been so prominent in our society. the same thing that fuckers like britney spears, lindsay lohan, and destiny's child or whatever run on (sex appeal) is the same thing this band runs on. don't lie. whenever i talk to a girl that likes this band and they come up, i CANNOT go a minute talking about them without hearing about how "sexy" sonny moore is. please, please, please, i beg of you, at least see where I'm coming from, that's all I ask. you people talking about this song's "sexual vibe" only enhances what I'm trying to say.

you know the "joke" would be more believable if i hadn't heard stories about his assholishness, the reason they kicked out their bassist, and if they didn't hold their heads so high and dress as if the only reason they wore what they wore was for sex appeal.

Against Me! – Turn Those Clapping Hands into Angry Balled Fists Lyrics 18 years ago
in my opinion... it seems to be about routine and how everything is all the same. our lives our so predictable. and the last several lines reveal the second theme, which is that of that we never let anything out that should be let out. the truth is so repressed. originality and creativity are repressed. and society is regressing in part because of this. beautiful song.

From First to Last – Kiss Me, I'm Contagious Lyrics 18 years ago
come on dont just shrug me off, please. apparently, according to a friend of mine, i dont "get" the funnyness because im "not a girl." and this made me realize that this whole band just seems to be aimed at making 14 year old girls cream their pants. look at their image. everytime i mention this band to a girl who likes them, they always talk about how HAWT they are. what if they were ugly as hell and dressed like retarded fifth graders all the time and had no sense of fashion at all? would you all still listen to them? its a big manipulative trick, and you're all falling for it. not to mention his voice also happens to be very whiny when he sings. the music (especially in this song) is kind of cool and unique, but the vocals and their massive sex appeal and manipulation and cliches and everything turn me off of this band. they seem like theyre not terrible people, but i don't like them at all. to each his own. dont hate me for my opinion, please.

Weezer – Across The Sea Lyrics 19 years ago
"You are 18 year old girl
Who live in small city of Japan
and you heard me on the radio
About one year ago"

Pretty straightforward.

"And you wanted to know
All about me and my hobbies
My favorite food and my birthday"

Obviously she is extremely interested in his life. The way he says it in a matter-of-factly kind of way makes it seem like he hasn't had many people this interested in what he does, despite him being a rockstar. but this seems strange, because he IS a rockstar, so he must just be picking this one girl out among the many. most likely because she is a japanese girl.

"Why are you so far away from me?
I need help and you're way across the sea"

He feels very isolated from her, lonely, helpless, she seems to be the only person who can do anything for him, even though he's never met her or anything.

"I could never touch you
I think it would be wrong"

He doesn't feel as if he is good enough for this girl, as if she is something very special.

"I've got your letter
You've got my song"

It seems he's come to the conclusion that because this relationship won't go any further, he's just leaving it at the exchange of a letter for a song. once again, a song takes a lot more work to write than a letter, so he must think he has to make up for not being good enough for the girl.

"They don't make stationery like this where I'm from
So fragile so refined"

Once again, she is put out as something special, being far away, and yet the only one able to help him.

"So I sniff and I lick your envelope
And fall to little pieces every time"

He's become obsessive because he can't do anything to get closer to her, and it's killing him.

"I wonder what clothes you wear to school
I wonder how you decorate your room
I wonder how you touch yourself
And curse myself for being across the sea"

He starts to fantasize about this girl, almost seeming to think its his dream girl, obsessing even more, and once he hits the sexual fantasy he kinda bangs his fist on the table and curses himself for not being able to see her or anything. [insert chorus again]

"At 10 I shaved my head and tried to be a monk
I thought the older women would like me if I did"

This line seems a bit out of place in the song. I think he just was getting so confessional and pained that he decided "ehh i'll just talk about this too." but it does relate in that he is talking about what he has gone through in the past just to get the attention of girls. yet we get the idea that they dont seem to notice him anyways. and in the next line...

"You see, ma, I'm a good little boy
It's all your fault, momma, it's all your fault"

He tries to reassure his mother that he IS a good boy. when he says its all her fault, i think he means his failure with relationships is her fault. he was raised in a family that was isolated from the rest of the world and had a very jaded perspective on life. this must have had a huge effect on how his future relationships played out.

"Goddamn, this business is really lame!
I gotta live on an island to find the juice"

mmm... honestly, if those are the real lyrics, i dont know what the hell he's talking about there.

"So you send me your love from all around the world
As if I could live on Words and dreams and a million screams
On how I need a hand in mine, to feel"

some of the best lines rivers has written thats been released to the public, imo. now he seems to be placing the blame on the girl, almost wishing she had never sent the letter, because he CAN'T just live on "words and dreams and a million screams." he needs a hand in his hand, something real, something there. but he won't get it, so he just has to settle for her letter and she has to settle for his song.

great song.

"i break hearts like the west was won"

am i the only one that sees the assholishness in this line?

and all this stuff about "getting her in the saddle" and "touching her legs" and "oooh im so macho and cool" just makes whoever wrote these lyrics seem like a big asshole. i'll be honest, i liked this song before i read the lyrics. but now whenever i hear it, i cant help but think about these lyrics.

not to mention, despite its meaning which i despise, the song is very awkward and poorly written.
