Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Howl Lyrics 18 years ago
The coda at the end is beautiful
If you listen hard enough, you can hear "And I won't wait for you in silence", sung to a really nice tune

This song is so wonderfully optimistic.... Really cheers me up

Bliss Freak - I figured that Peter Hook sings on the first New Order version? There's two though, Bernard Sumner definitely sings on the other

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Gospel Song Lyrics 18 years ago
Something of a change from "I'll kill you all with a six barrel shotgun"...

I like it

The Fall – English Scheme Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the fact that this could be a perfect pop song if the lyrics were less witty and Mark E. Smith didn't have such a wonderfully anti-pop vocal style and general disposition

Felt – Penelope Tree Lyrics 18 years ago
It sounds almost like an amalgamation of Virginia Plain and Orange Juice. Brilliant

The Smiths – Jeane Lyrics 18 years ago
To be honest, I prefer the version with Morrissey on vocals. I'm pretty sure it is about his mother - "Yet you still hold a greedy grace as you tidy the place".

The Smiths – I Keep Mine Hidden Lyrics 18 years ago
In the book "Songs That Saved Your Life", it says that this song is about Morrissey comparing his way of expressing emotions with Johnny Marr. Although it seems as though it could be about celibacy.

Joy Division – Digital Lyrics 18 years ago
"You know, I find that kind of odd, because I always had an association between this song and suicide. I don't think I can explain it without coming off as an attention whoring melodramatic emo kid, though. Sorry."

People are always afraid of sounding "emo" nowadays. I've always associated it with suicide too - almost as if he's telling himself not to fade away. The line "Don't ever fade away" has always got to me.

This song is named after a JG Ballard book by the same name.

The Libertines – Hooligans on E Lyrics 19 years ago
This is my favourite Libertine's song, mainly because of the history with Lisa Moorish of Kill City. It's infinitely better than the Kill City version, and far better than the Baby Shambles version (From the Sailor Sessions). Does anyone know what album this is from, if any? Supposedly, this song was written by Lisa Moorish, and co written by Peter Doherty and Pete Jones, but I think this is the Peter Doherty version, they lyrics are far better in this than in Kill City's

Hell Is For Heroes – Out Of Sight Lyrics 19 years ago
No comments? One of their best songs
Although it does seem to take the common "everyone is against me" tone of a lot of Hell is For Heroes' songs.

"it's easy to speak when every word is your own"
I find the opposite...

Funeral for a Friend – Juneau Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't think it's about choosing between lines [people], why would you choose a line in a book? It's all linear. I think it's plainly insignificance

The Libertines – Arbeit Macht Frei Lyrics 19 years ago
Arbeit macht frei, the best interpretation I think is "Work liberates", wasn't written on many concentration camps. It was a peice of German propaganda which was meant to convince the Jews that if they were to get a job in Germany they wouldn't be concentrated. There's more to it than that, but if yer interested you should see the film Schindler's List.

The Libertines – The Delaney Lyrics 19 years ago
Correction: "There's magic in all that he does"
This song doesn't mean much to me. But it's still a brilliant song.

Joy Division – Ceremony Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the aim of Songmeanings is to share what the songs mean to you. Perhaps on some occasions it is actually possible to come to a conclusion as to what the song meant to it's writer. But, this is very rare with Joy Division. It is difficult not to always ascociate Ian Curtis' songs with him slowly brewing up his suicidal frame of mind, but there's more to the songs than that. Having said this, however, I think this is one to the rare exceptions: to me, this song seems like a goodbye.
