It really is a great song. Very funny and in the same time, meaningful. Some people might not want to confess it, but it carries a meaning. Are you crazy? If this comment was about some dumb rapper or some stupid screaming metal "singer" or a whiney little Daddy's girl, I bet their "fans" would tear this guy to pieces. But no, when it goes for someone really big, all we can say that this song [as well as each and every other Elton's song] ROCKS. Everything's said in the lyrics. And what's not there is tucked into the music. So there isn't really a point in doing brainless critics about this piece of music. You can say whatever you like, but music that is so powerful that can change your life, fill you up with energy and make you think as a better person, is true master work. And that's why Elton John deserves his good $, especially after he has worked for them all his life because he did not have everything given for granted. In fact, he had nothing given for granted. He had to start from the bottom, having only his talent. When you're as good as him in every way, than make your good $ and noone will blame you. [except for some stupid jerk like you who would, of course, come and leave his dumb comment cause he has nothing else to say]. |

It's a really wonderful song. Makes you think about your life as well. I think it's about a new begining - at least a little. That's the way the sunrise is associated - as a symbol of the new day. Love is also discussed again - it's like, the only thing to see the character cry is something as powerful as the sunrise - and the other one is that person. Wouldn't it be a wonderful thing if someone compares you, in this way, with the sunrise? |

Sympathy really is a stupid thing, I agree that you better have nothing than sympathy. I think that the main theme in the song is the contrast between sympathy and dedication, which are two quite different things and should NOT be mixed up. It's so beautiful, I can't even believe you can be proud of singing it while you were drunk! o_o Anyways, it can make anyone cry. At least anyone who has some heart or something :/ The restless warrior and the wide-eyed wanderer are such a nice part of the whole meaning of the lyrics, they definately create the whole feeling of the song. The greatest song Robbie has ever done, in my opinion. There are a few mistakes in the lyrics here, but anyways... -.- I don't know why, but many people have never heard this song, but it's like a symphony. Each and every word has its meaning. The "Always and forever is forever young" line is, to me, an expression of belief. One thing will be forever young and this shall be love, if we believe in love, awlays and forever will forever be young. Your shadow on the pavement - Even the sun has it's dark side, and usually we can see that there is sun by looking at the shadows. Maybe you're alone and your shadow is the only one around you? And the blues - even the sad times have their colour - we shouldn't make them black and white? And it's hope that spring, the season of love, of happiness, is eternal for everyone - not just for ourselves. Violet, the colour of romance and love (that's how I understand it) melts away in the rainbow - our colourful life. There's not enough minutes in the hour or minutes in the day to find happiness. The "song" of life and love is always played in a circle that is one and the same and never skips a beat, but somebody somewhere out there - a stranger in the country - is meant to be mine, and I have yet to meet him. I love this part: "It will come in your sweet time, Lord, I just gotta let you in. The blind leading the blnd, Lord, getting underneath your skin. I can feel you in the silence, saying Let forever be, love, only love will set you free". The line "Let forever be" again shows the "forever" thing - it's like, let love be and let it be forever. Sorry for this dumb analyse with bad English too, it's just the way I feel the song, it has made me think a lot of times until I completely feel it in my blood. I love Robbie ^^ |

Oh my GOD I can't take this any more!! I've read the first two pages and I have not even read a single post that truely says something about the meaning! Just arguing!!! You people, go out and have some fresh air! You need it! Anyways, the song is great. I hate the remix but the normal version is cool, I have seen two versions of the video - in one of them they are just jumping around, the other one has a story with a girl dressed as a maid who enters another world through a mirror or something. I totally love the second one, I think it suits the meaning of the lyrics well. I can connect this song with a friend of mine, at the time it came out we were both crazy about it, and he is the mysterious type of boy who's described in the song... I really thought he'd be the one to lead me out of the "shadows". I think everyone deserves someone to lead him out of the shadows. And that's the way I feel this song. |

Really, the "Everything I touched was golden, everything I loved got broken" part is so beautiful. Maybe it means that while he makes so much money and is so fameous, real love is somehow always lost. It's such a sad song with a lively melody, the contrast is perfect if you ask me. By the way, harrieparrie, I've noticed that - really the greatest songs of Robbie Williams have always not been his most famous ones. There are some genius pieces of music around his discs, but however, most people never get to hear them and can't understand his real talent :/ |
