Jethro Tull – Wind-Up Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song so much. The line I'm not the kind you have to wind up on sunday is my favorite. It Directly relates to all of those who come best dressed to worship only on Sundays and for their safe guard through the week, should something happen to them. I think that if these people really wanted to respect the lord they would take time to remember him not only on Sunday, but throughout the week as well. If they did all this outside of the church as well think of how much money, time, and effort they could put forth to do the Lords work rather than paying for upkeep on such a building and paying for a full staff of ministers, secretaries, etc.

Jethro Tull – Thick as a Brick (Parts 1 & 2) Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the general theme in the song is to think for yourself and not be corrupted by outer influences, make your own choices without outer influences helping you. Question authority, power figures, and organizations. Otherwise you are just as thick as your followers or mentor, and just add to the mass cattle epidemic. To listen to a fools ideas yet still follow them is more foolish than the fool. also, that thinking or hoping for change won't amount to anything. Its the do-er that triumphs at the end of the day over a fools hope. My favorite versus are:
Spin me back down the years and the days of my youth.
Draw the lace and black curtains and shut out the whole truth.
Spin me down the long ages: let them sing the song.
To me it is an example of how the church likes to think it has a simple answer for all of lifes questions and mysteries. I'm not mocking religion, but just saying that not everything is as simple as you may like or think it to be.

Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics 17 years ago
the official lyrics to the song are, you will buy any cd they put out, because you are all just slaves to the music industry wether you acknowledge it or not. anyways worst tool album so far, but still better than fake bands like linkin park or whatever the fuck else is filling the heads of our retarded youth these days.
anyways make sure you vote for another Bush.

Pink Floyd – Brain Damage Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that to say this album has nothing to do with Syd is just inaccurate, although this album is not directly about just Syd there are references to him that anyone can pick out. Like "and if the band you're in starts playing different tunes," after The Piper on Saucerful he made it quite clear he was going his separate way in Jugbandblues. without Syd embarking in the dark depths of his mind into madness as some would say you probably wouldn't have heard all of these concept albums like Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and maybe even The Wall. Because from the sound of it they have received a lot of inspiration and lyrical and musical ideas from Syd and his life and even previous works on The Piper.

I think to me this song is kind of pondering that of the treatment towards patients like locking them up and ignoring them, and also questioning what insanity really is, who's insane, and who's to say who or what insanity really is. For instance, those do not walk on grass signs. would I be labeled insane if instead of walking on the sidewalk I had walked on the grass. Insane is only a label and I feel that Floyd is trying to say to Syd that he's no more insane than they are themselves. Another thing is that medicine and psychology were not very advanced nor were they prepared to even properly diagnose or handle patients when clinics were so quickly overcrowded back in those days although they did. I don’t think all of the verses are meant to be taken literally. As in "You raise the blade etc" an obvious line is just simply and vaguely referring to the altering of ones mind or state of mind through any number of treatments not just lobotomy although that’s what's being referred to. I always thought "and if there is no room upon the hill," was "and if there’s no lunar path ahead." until I read the lyrics, anyways beautiful song.

if I go insane,
please don't put your wires in my brain

Jefferson Airplane – Somebody to Love Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow you guys have over analyzed this song just a bit, if you don’t know anything about Vietnam then you probably wouldn't understand this song. You can draw your own conclusions in which case it can mean anything you want it be and that’s fine. But the truth is that this is a song mirroring the emotional state during Vietnam and post Vietnam era. "When the truth is found to be lies and all the joys within you dies." - Our country was being lied to about Vietnam from day one since the war started in 1963 and 64.(about death tolls, funding, the murders in Mi Ley and other villages, and the Gulf of Tonkins in which a US ship was supposedly fired upon, in reality it never was fired upon - just to name a few) Although the obvious lies didn’t truly surface for some people until Nixon's term, and after the Watergate scandal erupted, in which Nixon wire tapped and recorded conversations of those he thought to be suspicious while they were staying in the Watergate apartment complex. (paranoia? anybody) - basically how do you feel when betrayed by your country? you just want somebody to love, and to take your mind off what’s really happening all around you because it's too emotionally devastating (drugs seem to work well for a while until your dependent on them). As for "When the garden flowers baby are dead yes and your mind is full of red," lots of young soldiers died, average service age being 19 yrs. of age and mainly poor or middle class citizens. How do you feel when your children die in a poor mans fight for a rich mans war? As for the last two paragraphs, our enlisted service men were treated like total crap upon return to the states, some now with mental disorders, fallout from the agent orange, and post traumatic war syndrome. while these people were off at war fighting for their country, back home it had dramatically changed (drug culture, peace activists, anti war movements, etc.), meanwhile they know nothing more nor care more than survival for another day. Hence "and your friends baby they treat you like a guest" You and your friends now both differentiate in views, cares, and state of mind than you once did or would have had you not gone to war.

The Doors - Unknown Soldier -

"Breakfast where the news is read.
Television, children fed.
Unborn living, living dead.
Bullet strikes the helmet's head.
And it's all over for the unknown soldier.
It's all over for the unknown soldier."

King Crimson – Happy With What You Have to Be Happy With Lyrics 18 years ago
I find it astonishing that Elektrik is not included with the list of songs. But any ways, at first I was thinking "wow what an absolute piece of shit song." But when I actually listened, it made more sense. Not my favorite song at all, but the middle bit I feel they couldn't have defined ambiguity any better, "To be happy with what you have? you have to be happy with what you have to be happy with." Most of the music today, is just people that are writing these terrible distorted, automatic, robotic verses, tedious pop songs of repetitive themes, empty political movements, and anti war protests that have no more meaning or value to you or me, other than for the mainstream audience to give them money to fuel their big hair, big heads, and make-up kits. If they actually created a good song or heard one, their heads would just explode. Then again that is just my opinion. Although the head exploding part is actually proven and factual.

Pink Floyd – Careful with That Axe, Eugene Lyrics 18 years ago
I’m with you stapleton, I like the scream in Ummagumma version, but as a whole the Pompeii version is much more energetic and a masterpiece in comparison. Also, just listen to the sounds Roger Waters makes, every one is perfectly placed and masterfully ingenious in its self. My interpretation of the song is that the axe murderer's conscience or good side of his personality is telling him 'Careful with that axe,' but he loses himself to the lust of killing, right around the build up before the scream is his adrenaline kicking in (the volcano boiling ready to explode), and then the scream is either a description of the killers emotions playing out / the victim screaming in pain and horror/ or both (the volcano explodes symbolizing the release of the killers need, control, and emotions, and the volcano in the background symbolizing the exploding impact of the axe on the victim and then the flow of the victims blood). Next The middle solo part is his addiction or high being fulfilled or numbed for the time being and relishing in what he has done. And the last fourth of the song is the killer coming down from his high (notice the lava flowing slower showing the victim is near death), you can hear Roger exhaling and calming down near the end of the song (the fire being quenched by water means the victim has met his end). The Pompeii version is how I viewed this interpretation. The main symbolic element is the lava as being the flow of life within. Sort of like how the Doors song ‘When the music’s over’ the music is the flow of life, and when it’s over turn out the lights.

The Doors – Break on Through (To the Other Side) Lyrics 18 years ago
What this song means to me is basically, before you do drugs you're kind of a square, or just another incorruptible sheep in the pasture. But everyone sort of has a hidden partitioned mind that is not as easily accessible without the influence of drugs. That being said, once you have done drugs (mainly; alcohol, absinthe , acid or lsd, pot, etc.) your mind set starts changing, you start being less close minded, and expand your mind. Therefore, "The gate is straight, Deep and wide, Break on through to the other side." Also recollecting on the times you and your friends were experimenting "But can you still recall, The time we cried, Break on through to the other side." I could be wrong, this was my interpretation while being stoned immaculate, but as Jim Morrison has said about the majority of his songs “It is whatever you want it to be,“ to think one way and no other would be close minded.
