Death Cab for Cutie – Brothers on a Hotel Bed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"You may tire of me As our December sun is setting Cause I'm not who I used to be No longer easy on the eyes But these wrinkles masterfully disguise The youthful boy below" I think he is discribing an internal conflict, perhaps a person in a mid-life crisis. Not the person he remembers from his youth, and not exactly sure how he got to this point in his life, but there is someone else inside him who wants to get out. "Who turned your way and saw Something he was not looking for Both a beginning and an end But now he lives inside Someone he does not recognize When he catches his reflection on accident" The begining is the internal person trying to break out, and the end is the person on the outside that he has become. The internal person doesn't recognize the person he sees in the mirror. "On the back of a motorbike With your arms outstreched trying to take flight Leaving everything behind But even at our swiftest speed We couldn't break from the concrete And the city where we still reside" I agree with shortandsweetern's interpertation of this part of the song. "And I have learned That even landlocked lovers yearn For the sea like navy men Cause now we say goodnight From our own seperate sides Like brothers on a hotel bed Like brothers on a hotel bed Like brothers on a hotel bed Like brothers on a hotel bed" The best part of the song - there is so much internal conflict within this person between who he is and who he wants to be that it leads to a feeling of comfort (like brothers have) in an uncomfortable situation (on a hotel bed).
