The Ataris – The Boys of Summer (Don Henley cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
I love this song. Just wanted to say how awesome it is that "Deadhead" got replaced with "Black Flag". Look who's driving the Cadillacs now...

Hey Mercedes – The Promise (When In Rome cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
Braid's Smith covers were amazing... those songs were made for melodic post-punk...This Charming Man & There is a Light that Never Goes Out are actually two of my fav. Braid songs, despite being covers.
Oh, and this one kicks ass, too.

Hey Mercedes – Our Weekend Starts On Wednesday Lyrics 21 years ago
NOV18, *thank you* for appreciating the fact that, as artists, HM are really very talented. Though they did it a bit more complexly as Braid, the time signature changes, key changes, chord structures and even guitar riffs of most songs are astounding. They're a musician's band, one that I truly appreciate.

Braid – Killing A Camera Lyrics 21 years ago
Halo Ape, I'm sorry to hear that you haven't listened to any of Robbins' work. You're really missing out. After Braid, Burning Airlines is easily one of my favorite bands. They're different enough (much more precise and musical) where the assertion that Braid ripped off of them really isn't valid, and if you're into the genre, it's kind of hard to ignore J. Identikit and Mission Control are two brilliant albums along the lines of Frame and Canvas (that is, whole works with true continuity and variation), and it'd be more than worth it to everyone to check them out.
As for the Braid/HM issue, sure, I forever mourn the loss of Chris to the (in my opinion) worst post-breakup project ever, but don't think I'm gonna miss HM when the play the Vagrant Tour here in Pittsburgh. I mean, "A-List Actress"? Who would want to miss out on that?!?

Braid – (Strawberry Ann) Switzerland Lyrics 22 years ago
Sounds to me like there's a girl that's having trouble chosing between two guys (she's being neutral, hence her title of 'Switzerland'), and Rob is trying to explain the situation. 'We'll burn our hands off for your side' is an explaination of how far the guys would go for the girl. My personal favorite part of the song is 'If we're so everwanting leverage, then why am I crying eleven feet from your bedside'
Great song, all in all, one of the more easily decipherable ones...
...God I miss braid.

why am I always
so attracted to drama? "
Well, that just about sums things up for me... Ladies and gents, welcome to my life.

Five Iron Frenzy – Every New Day Lyrics 22 years ago
The "Man vs. Himself" bridge, done live (saw them at Warped last week), just blew me away. I mean, total chills all the way up and down my spine. Incredible, inspiring, amazing.

Time Spent Driving – Angel and I Lyrics 22 years ago
Good points, both of you... And for the record, emo -was-a true genre, but much like the washed out label of 'alternative', it's grown to encompass far to many bands and styles.
I got into the indie-emo scene just barely before it started to flood. Which is not to say that I dislike bands like Dashboard, et al. that are currently labeled emo (I'd kill for Chris Carrabba's vocal chords and own both full-lengths), only that I've gotten the chance to see what is happening to emo as a genre...

Believe me, it's an incredible thing to be able to connect with so many people using raw 'emotion' - something that is missing from a lot of mainstream music today. The artists who are able to do that deserve true praise. The disturbing trend is that many artists are seeing it as a 'formula for success' than as true artistic expression.

Time Spent Driving – Angel and I Lyrics 22 years ago
Come on folks, in terms of emo as a genre, it just isn't.
The number of bands i've heard described as 'emo', from Braid to New Found Glory should illustrate that. Emo is much more a 'way' to listen to music and/or express yourselves. People are only hating on it because it's very quickly becoming cliched and, in many people's eyes, sold out. Now I know that only means that 'emo' is successful, but for the 'original listeners' or those people outside the genre, it makes it an easy target. I agree with APartOfMeDies, it's a personal thing, one that I'd prefer not to have a label fitted to.

The Ataris – San Dimas High School Football Rules Lyrics 22 years ago
The first Ataris song I heard, still one of the best.
Yes, it's almost mainstream.
Yes, it's not quite hardcore punk.
Yes, it *may* be a little cheesy...
But you know what?
I really just don't care, it's still an incredible song.

Rites of Spring, the godfathers of what -used- to be called DC-hardcore... *laments*
Ok, I'm over it.
Oh, and SDRE is an incredible band... go check'em out everyone.

It's the top song lyric on this site, which means automatically, that it's emo.
*laughs*
Just kidding folks, but it really is emo.

Braid – That Car Came Out Of Nowhere Lyrics 22 years ago
A testament to the musicianship of this band... Anyone who can accurately give me the meter changes for this song (a difficult task) can easily understand just how complex this writing is.

Braid – Minuet Lyrics 22 years ago
The scream of "victorian hazel, forget it" is easily one of the greatest moments in music, period. Another genius braid song, even though it's one of their early ones.

Saw the guys yesterday at Warped... became an instant fan, and this is the song that did it.
Bonus: They signed the cd I bought at their booth!
