It's a shame your argument automatically loses its logic once you take into consideration that Picasso's artwork generally varied a great amount. In fact, your argument is a paradox in itself. I didn't claim Kurt's lyrics are "deep and insightfu", in fact, I think some of it is sung only because it "sounds cool". The difference between Nirvana and Cannibal Corpse is the how much room they offer for interpretation, which is an artform in itself. Please, enlighten me on how lyrics like "I will kill you" offer this to the listener. "nirvana is built around sadness and despair" You don't know that. "Slayer as well as Corrosion of Conformity and include politically driven lyrics" I don't CARE about Slayer. I don't hold anything against metal, in fact I enjoy certain types of it. I just don't understand how screaming about raping a woman with a knife is "thoughtful". "and death should make someone that much happier to be alive. He took in the ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF HUMAN EMOTION. He didn't paint with one colour, with one palette, or with one brushstroke. He experimented. How does Cannibal Corpse do that? You're not God. You can't tell me that you know, for sure what Kurt sings about. Cannibal Corpse is NOT. Very precise, very clear, very brutal. Not much room for interpretation. If that's the kind of music you like, fine. But refrain from looking at Cannibal Corpse as if they were the underground death metal gods. They are fairly well known, and get a decent amount of coverage from 'Much Loud'. First of all, Cradle of filth don't sing about praising satan and necrophillia, and I can show you many lyrics that are considerably different. There's a lot of variety in Cradle's old music. As for calling Nirvana"whiney", I suggest you listen to the album 'Nervermind' and note the "pop tunes" that Kurt himself enjoyed. The fans, for the mostpart, are extremely pretentious and whiney, yes. And your assumptions that what I listen to represents the "lighter" side of humanity is based on no fact. I don't listen to "light" or "dark" music, I listen to what I think is good. Just because I dislike Cannibal Corpse doesn't automatically pass me off as a tie-wearing Avril Lavigne wannabe. I often hear Cannibal Corpse fans call those who do not like Cannibal Corpse "good charlotte" fans. It's very easy to stay inside your pseudo-hardcore shell, thinking that your music is the best, and call everything else 'mainstream'. And though most mainstream music is complete garbage, there is still a rare trait of decency left. I agree, most rap music is garbage; it is now only a sell-out version of the true roots of hip-hop; that is, social issues, society, conformity, etc. The problem I have with Cannibal Corpse is the same problem I have with emo music, the same thing I see wrong in Good Charlotte, the same repetitive whining Avril Lavigne frequently blurts out. I don't see anything wrong with being "dark" but there needs to be balance. Without balance, it's no longer an art form. |

Yeah, thanks for reading my profile to figure out I'm still in highschool. "wut i mean is it is people like u who forget about these emotions until it is to late to come to terms with them, better to get it out in a song or pit than in an office building but i watch for u in the news" I'm not denying people have emotions like those depicted in Cannibal Corpse's lyrics. That's natural. My argument is based on the wider spectrum. As humans we're capable of destruction, like Cannibal Corpse depicts. But we’re are also capable of MUCH more. Why only look at one side? That's extremely narrow. "happiness and joy dont cause murder and rape" What the hell are you talking about? "oh malleable wuts a band u like so i can post stupid negative things about them im sure youd love that" So what bothers you more: the fact that I posted arguments that actually make logical sense, or the fact that you spent a considerable amount of effort replying to a high school student’s arguments? Wow, NothingMan. You seem to have a colourful vocabulary for someone who listens to music you yourself admit it is a gimmick. Do you honestly think I didn't know that? While I hear "whoosh" sounds, the oscilloscope attached to your mind reveals very little activity. I'm quite aware that Cannibal Corpse chooses to use boring, repetitive imagery to sell records. It's exactly the same as Ashlee Simpson writhing around on a couch on a video, or another "look at my bling, yo" song written by 'fitty', or a mohawk and tattoos used by Good Charlotte. That's doesn't make it O.K. Society now seems to be fueled by self-righteous, pleasurable activities instead of things that require intelligence. Humans all have basic instincts, that's why sex, materialism and gore work so well. It's very easy to entertain people using these, and that is exactly what you admitted to. Therefore, we must conclude that Cannibal Corpse does NOT reflect the whole spectrum of human emotion, but only very primal ones. |

Megiddo, I understand what you're saying. Humans are sensitive enough to be bent under constant psychological re-enforcement; but it's simply unrealistic to ask people to stop criticising this pseudo-artistic garbage. I believe that we've fallen off track here. We should be able to criticise music in an intelligent and empirical way. Unfortunately, a small percentage of our population has the mental capacity to use this technique, let alone youth. And as for the "talent card" pulled by Ddadutta, I would like to propose one of Freud's theories on Defence Mechanisms, specifically Rationalization. Rationalization is the act of serving a reason for an action one whishes to conceal. For example, if you know that the band you listen to consists of monotonous, insipid vocals, you would term the vocals "powerful". Instead of mentioning the repetitive guitar riffs and arid content, you choose to mention "inhuman drumming", etc. I'd like to leave with a quote sung by a good artist which I think is fitting at this moment: "Your mind is empty and spacious --like the part of the brain that appreciates culture in a racist..." |

I'm sure you've all heard the idiom "apple of my eye", meaning "the person I am interested in". Aren't the lyrics implying that the 'nurse' has fallen out of love with someone? This has been bothering me for a while. |
