Sara Bareilles – Gravity Lyrics 13 years ago
probably one of my top five go-to songs if i need a good cry to just let shit out.

she's hit the nail on the head in terms of being in that relationship where you just can't seem to let go, no matter how much you want to. your friends, family, even your mind tells you that you're better off, but there is just something that brings you back to this person. he/she may have treated you badly, it may have just been time, but you don't want to let go just yet.

it does work on several levels, as we've seen on SYTYCD with Kupono and Kayla and drug addiction. the stem of it is just this yearning for that one thing that made you feel good, even when it's just a momentary thing.

her ability to make sense of such an immense feeling that i can relate to wholeheartedly is truly what gravitated (ba dum chee) me to her music. this is one truly special song and i'm glad she was able to bring such a personal, uninhibited song to the table for us to use to guide us to better days.

Sara Bareilles – One Sweet Love Lyrics 13 years ago
this is easily my favorite song on her album. the complexity of her songwriting is so fucking amazing and the arrangement in this song is perfect in every way. this song is so often overlooked by the other GIANT songs from this album, this is Sara Barelle's at her finest. it's true in the lines after the refrain:

"The earth that is the space between, I'd banish it from under me
to get to you.
Your unexpected love provides my solitary suicide
I wish I knew."

that is some songwriting gold right there. fuck taylor swift, this is what songwriting is about, finding a better way of saying 'i need to find the man of my dreams'.

I can definitely see the Jesus vibe.
John 14:6 - Jesus answered, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
(I remember this from my days going to a Christian academy)

To me, the beauty of a song like this is that it can be taken in any way possible. If you don't believe in Jesus or God, this song can be about someone in your life who makes you a better person, someone who pulls you through days where you don't think you can live through. This song is pure genius, the emotion it brings to me is overwhelming, Jesus or not.

Jack Johnson – Constellations Lyrics 19 years ago
The stars up in the sky are one of the most important things to the culture of Hawai'i. If you're Hawaiian, your family is up there in the stars. Hawaiian canoe navigators use stars and the winds to travel across the Pacific Ocean, without any modern instruments.

If you ever get a chance to come to Hawai'i, you will see that out in the country, the sky is amazing and you will see the most beautiful stars out there. The Kamani tree is a tree that could grow along the shore, and what better place to tell stories of ancient times using the constellations than a Kamani tree. This song is amazing.

Jack Johnson – Banana Pancakes Lyrics 19 years ago
hala ka ukulele... for you people that aren't from hawaii... is kind of a "naney-naney boo boo" thing. the saying goes "hala ka ukulele peanut butter jelly mama made a baby"... different variations to the saying jack johnson uses goes as follows "humbalah okolele peanut butter jelly mama kissed the baby" or "alanka lanka lele peanut butter jelly mama kissed the baby"... a kid would usually say that when another kid did something wrong (i.e. break a vase or flush a ring down the toilet)...

banana pancakes is a specialty dish in hawai'i. it's usually eaten with macadamia nut syrup.

it's ono-licious!
