i got married recently, and this song perfectly describes how it feels walking down the aisle. you "heart beats fast" and you're scared until you see your fiance "standing alone" at the end of the aisle, and "all your doubt goes away somehow." i especially think the line "colors and promises" points to a wedding- wedding colors... vows... the lines "beauty in all she is, i will be brave, i will not let anything take away what's standing in front of me" sound like they're from the groom's point of view. you keep getting "one step closer" to this person you "always believed you'd find." you feel like you've always loved them even before you found them, and now that "time has brought them to you," you'll always love them, "for a thousand years" :) |

Goddddd I love this song. I love how he says "i'm just dreamin, countin the ways to where you are" both for 15 AND 99. i take it to mean he's 15, and he likes a girl, and he's trying to figure out a way to get her... and then when he's 99, he's found his girl, and even though he's about to die, he's still counting the ways to get to her (ie. she has already died.. and he's trying to get back to her). i don't know if that's right, but that's how i hear it. i absolutely love this song's message! life moves so quickly, and every day holds something new for us. |

omg come on this song definitely has a meaning. i agree with Krisstie- he's talking about growing up and being sheltered. "all your life is channel 13, sesame street" it's saying life isn't all perfect like sesame street, you have to deal with pressure. you can't avoid it. i love this song! |

definitely talking about two people who just got over bad relationships and said they'd just "be friends," then realized they weren't doing such a good job of that. they just can't deny that they have feelings for each other. "tomorrow is such a long time away, this night can last forever." he's saying he knows it's wrong, but just for tonight they are going to forget the rules. |

i think he's talking about someone getting sucked into a life he thought he wanted, but now realizes he really just wants to go back to his simple roots. "the yellow brick road", Wizard of Oz references aside, makes me think of the gold-paved road you are supposed to follow to riches. he finally realized he doesn't want the riches, he wants *beyond* that. he realizes he'd be happier just going back to his simple life: "i should have stayed on the farm..." |

hmm... i've been taking it to mean he's saying "look, that guy you're with looks like this girl i dated once, so why don't you dump him and date me instead!" Though the idea that the girl is a lesbian and the "boyfriend" is actually his old girlfriend makes a lot of sense, too. crazy! |

i read somewhere that billy wrote this song while visiting vienna, after watching an elderly woman proudly sweeping the sidewalk in front of her home. apparently he was inspired by how much old age and wisdom were appreciated there. i think "vienna waits for you" is saying don't be in such a hurry to move life along. everything, including *your* "vienna," will come in due time. |

this took me a little while to figure out as well. to say "only the good die young" doesn't mean they literally die. it means if you never put yourself out there and have fun once in a while, you aren't really living. hence, only the good "die" young! this song is one of my favorites! |
